QUOTE(kcng @ Jan 3 2011, 12:31 AM)
because RE001 seems to take alot of bashing with regards to grip in track... so i decided to try it out and for me, i would say the grip exceeded my expectation... heck i would even dare say v12 has better traction then PS3 in track...

so for its price, the grip is worth it... just that RE001 wears out very fast... i got to change a new set after 6 months of using it...
not really recommended for a daily ride...

and don't believe the rated traction by how many A's they have...
case in point... u can have 20A1 in SPM/college/uni but you don't know shit...
smile.gif
*
haha right.... smile.gif V12 is really cheap and good but too bad it's side wall flex too much sometimes during hard corner...

QUOTE(quackpack @ Jan 3 2011, 02:09 AM)
Currently using PS2 195/55/15

Thought of trying out Kumho, anyone has any experience with it?
*
well is it PP2??? there is no PS2 in this size... i'm using this size also...
for Kumho the grip is not up to PP2 standard... handling wise too... it is just a lil more comfort than PP2...
for cheaper alternative you may want to try out Hankook V12, cheap and good...

I used to use 60 profile.. i find the 45 profile in fact more comfortable then my 60 profile.. and its quite thick too.. So i dont think 50 will be much different then 45
*
you are wrong... depends on the tires properties/characteristic and also the profile % vs the tire width...
185/55 R16 or 195/50 R16 or 205/45 R16 all it has similar tire sidewall thickness... smile.gif

QUOTE(dRLurve @ Jan 3 2011, 05:38 PM)
hi all sifu, any 205/50/R16 tire to recommend? My stock tire is 185/55/R16. Thanks.
*
50 series is a lil too thick for you...

Price List from the pinned thread... Page 103 pls go there check urself...

195/50R16
Continental SC1, Falken ZE-912, Kumho ESPT, Hankook V8rs

205/45R16
Bridgestone RE001 (Japan), Hankook V12 Evo, Toyo T1R, Hankook Ventus V8RS, Yokohama A.Drive R1or C Drive or S.Drive, Dunlop LM701, Michelin PS3, Kumho ESPT

QUOTE(WhitE LighteR @ Jan 3 2011, 07:27 PM)
I'm wondering how bout tire pressure. Do we still use back the one on the sticker at the door or how?
*
well it depends on your tire sidewall thickness, and also sidewall properties (soft or hard)... then your own requirements...
my PS3 on Vios '05 195/55 R15 is put 34 PSI front and 32 PSI rear...

so try out a few pressure and see... test out by trying out the OEM pressure, remember measure during tire is in cold state... if hard then increase 1~2 PSI each time, if soft then decrease 1~2 PSI...

cheers...

Maxxis i-pro threadwear is ard 240 only.
currently using nexan n6000.
doesn't feel as good as maxxis.
threadwear is 300 on nexan.
hopefully will last longer as my previous maxxis last me for 10mths only.
*
of course la... N6000 consider as comfort... it's grip is not good, the next UHP tire you should try out is the Hankook V12... better threadwear rating...

QUOTE(cuttlefish @ Jan 4 2011, 01:41 AM)
hi guys tongue.gif

Went to tire shop @ shah alam. They quoted me RM350 for 215/50/R17, Yokohama C-Drive (made in philippines)

C-Drive should be comfort + less noise i guess?  hmm.gif

Note: Really tempted with Breyton 17" black rims. Ori from Germany. Normally used for BMW car  wink.gif
*
yes... C Drive is Premium Comfort

QUOTE(Eric18 @ Jan 4 2011, 08:03 PM)
Will give as try on V12 next round.
Btw the price should be slightly higher than maxxis rit.
*
V12 at 195/55 R15 is around RM200++ now... u can ask around and see... Tek Ming u can get below that price if you have a set of tires to trade in...

balancing is required when...

- after 10k km...
- when you have vibration on the steering, cruising more than 80km/h...
- when you remove the tires from the rim...

Alignment is subjective... u can do it after you do balancing each time... but some ppl prefer to do it when the alignment really runs out by some margin...

GY Assurance vs Michelin XM1, which one better for 195/60R15?
i know GY is cheaper by 30-50 bucks..
*
both also comfort tires... XM1 is really for comfort coz of it's soft side wall... Assurance is more towards middle range of comfort tires... is ur choice... but for me i might give Assurance a try...

well most of the UHP tires will not last more than 40k km... it depends on how you drive too... and how often you do rotation to make all the 4 tires wears evenly... at 205/45 R16 you have a lot of choice... but at your travel rate 3 month for 15k km and 1 yrs around 60k km it is impossible to get a performance tires which is lasting... so your choice is use back normal/comfort range tires like Yokohama C Drive or even A Drive R1 or A Drive...
or even go back to 15" where you get more choice of long lasting tires... like Goodyear Assurance, ContiPremiumContact 2, ContiComfortContact CC5 and some others...

Eric, PS3 has better threadwear rating 320 tongue.gif

not really.. i'm using PP2 for around 1year 215/45R17 and it still have lots of rubber around. Rotated every 10K km. Now if i remember correctly it should be running around 40K km already.
*
well if i remember as i said previously it depends on your driving style and also road condition, of course your car weight also...
my PS3 u can see until now still very nice... rotated once only... merely 10~20% off only and 15k km already... Hankook V12 also 20k++ km already still not yet reach 50%...

it really depends on a lot of factors...

BTW my precious few sets of PP2 did not last me 40k km... on Vios or even SEG

it depends what size are you looking for...

Myvi 175/65 R14 (Ori) - you have limited choice... for wider range of tire u can change to 185/60 R14... Toyo Teo Plus, Michelin XM1/Certis, Falken 912, Hankook V8rs... what you want??? pure comfort??? handling and noise???
V8rs is a performance range while 912 is comfort performance and Teo Plus and XM1 is purely comfort...

similar it goes to Vios... what you need comfort/handling/noise/traction what you need... Vios also got 2 size where 14" similar like Myvi or it is on 15"... 15" tires also depends on model NCP42 (old) or NCP92 (new, year 07 onwards)... what is your size??? or what is your spec E or G or others...

E spec means 175/65 R14... so similar as Myvi...

google out for the info...
185 = width
60 = width x60% (sidewall thickness
R14 = rim size in inches...

haha... well it is regarding on the wheels no problem la...

well for Vios and Myvi 15" is nice... but not bigger coz that will really affect your FC... it is your choice...

Hi guys, my Nexxan N6000 suckx.
If u guys want to use UHP Tyre, dont go for this.
Useless for connering. Skid damn kaw kaw during high speed.
My previous Maxxis I-pro still the best.
*
fren N6000 is not good at all la... it is good for normal driving, budget wise i would still prefer HankookV12...
what is your preference on tires choice??? Handling, Comfort, Noise??? lastly your size...

QUOTE(e_k1117 @ Jan 10 2011, 07:39 PM)
hihi, does the 6000 good enough for normal usage? how abt the comfortness of it? mind to share wat size u using ? and how it compare to maxxis i-pro that u mentioned in terms of comfortness& silentness...
thanks ya,
*
if you want silent tires then skip the directional type... Maxxis i-Pro, Hankook V12, Kumho ESPT, Yokohama S Drive, Toyo T1R and some others directional tires is not meant to be quiet smile.gif
if you want quiet try out Michelin PS3, Bridgestone RE001 for UHP tires... but comfortness is not that good...
if you want comfort then Bridgestone GR90, Goodyear Assurance, Yokohama C Drives, Toyo DRB... these are comfort tires but grip is not as good as PS3 and RE001...
what i your size???

N6000 is enough for normal driving only.
Noise wise more or less the same.
Handling & durable is my choice when come to choosing tyres.
i will give a try on hankook v12 next round since u strongly recommended.
i'm using 205/45/16
*
well V12 has softer sidewall if you dont mind... it matches right with my old toy's hard suspension setup, using 195/50 R15... it does not take off much of the comfort of ori 185/60 R14 that i used previously... but the grip is good, almost matched with Michelin PP2, although it is not as good as PP2 but really worth the amount you pay for...
for you size it should cost you less than RM300...

QUOTE(Auwen @ Jan 10 2011, 11:51 PM)
any recommend on size 205/50/R16....??? yoko C-drive good or A -drive R1 good??? i heard Falken 912 downgrade liao..from traction aa to a...is it still nice to use???
*
well C Drive will be good but skip A Drive R1, AR01 only for fun only... what is your priority??? handling comfort or noise???
you have RE001, S Drive, Toyo T1R or DRB and some others too...

QUOTE(FirstOne @ Jan 11 2011, 12:17 AM)
Ehehee..sorry just found out the VIOS is G spec, so it is 185/60/R15 , so just change tire will be good enough? now the tire is ori 1 and run for almost 10k only =)
*
yes like Eric said... 195/55 R15 is your choice... smile.gif
look for PS3 if you are willing to pay around RM270/pc... improves the handling confident you need on Vios... smile.gif

hmm.gif all the while i thought comfort = silent? not ar...  laugh.gif coz i wan is comfort + silent  nod.gif  nod.gif  i thought both should be related to each other...
I was being offered PS3 for 215/45/17 for rm455/pcs. but that was too over my budget liao... smile.gif
so thinking of taking the V12 or N8000.  as some shop claimed that V12 is not so good nia yet expensive.... laugh.gif  as recomemnd me to take the Sime/Dunlop one with cheaper price, and i do expect the grip is not as good alr... coz of the price... since i just use for very damm normal driving only...
*
muahaha... tell him wanna try with my old toy... heavy car...
they wanna sell off their tires only... really if for me to choose Dunlop D01, Yokohama C Drive or others premium/performance tires by our local manufacturer i rather take Hankook V12... although it's side wall is a lil too soft for some ppl but for my hard suspension ride it makes a good combination... my ride felt smoother on small humps and bump the ride quality is not that harsh... even i upgrade from 185/60 R14 to 195/50 R15 i do not really feel the difference on ride comfort although lower profile on 15" rims...

Comfort is depend on the tire sidewall, some hard some soft... V12 is soft so does Toyo T1R and DRB... those 3 has softer sidewall it is good for those ppl wanna have better comfort on lower profile tires but between the 3 V12 is the cheapest and it's grip in wet and dry is comparable with the other 2... then u have harder sidewall like Bridgestone RE001, Yokohama S Drive, Michelin PP2 (replaced by PS3)... these tires is having harder sidewall tires but it is good for those have softer suspension setup coz it's give you back the handling feel that you need, but you will have to bear with the less comfort...

well as i said... depends on your preference.... try GY F1 Asymmetric or N8000... smile.gif

well the grip is totally different... the ones that we provide to you is more on performance range... if you really want comfort and quiet tires you might be interested on Toyo C1S, Michelin Primacy LC or even Goodyear F1 Asy...
F1 Asy is a good tires which falls higher in the range... but it should be priced below RM400 which is cheaper than others... smile.gif

Recent Price List from AutoWorld Forum...

215/45R17
Federal 595 Evo - RM 285 GoodWood Tyre Service, Klang (Mar 10)
Goodyear F1 Asy - RM380 Quicksave (Feb 10)
Goodyear RS02 (Japan) - RM368 Quicksave (Apr 10)
Hankook V12 - RM330 Teoh Brothers Bayu Tinggi Klang (May 10)
Maxxis i-Pro - RM320 PJ Old Town (Jun 10)
Michelin PS3 - RM450 Quicksave (Jul 10)
Michelin PS3 - RM440 Hin Leong Kedai Papan Klang (Sep 10)
Yokohama A Drive R1 - RM320 Hup Yik Tyre - Ipoh (Feb 10)
Dunlop Veuro VE302 (Japan) - RM425 Jooi Seng, Klang (Nov'10)

please provide the Dunlop model then only can compare...
it depends what category of tires do you want to use... because Comfort and Quiet tires also have 2~3 range sometimes...

Hankook V12 is good for normal use but it is not that quiet... preferably you try N8000...

Same range of tires you have different characteristic too... even some performance tires is cheap but of course in return the wet performance is poor or u need to sacrifice on others performance (noisy, comfort or thread wear)..

I read from you post is you need a comfort and quiet tire for 215/45 R17 which is below RM400... am i correct?
GY F1 Asy should be below RM400, N8000 also below that...

haha you might need to skip AD08, should be priced around RM350~400... which is well over the Performance category price for that size... RE001 should be around PS3 price around RM250~300...
so for that i prefer to get PS3 between the 2...
PS3 has better threadwear rating too 320 vs RE001 (should be below 250)...
PS3 has better traction rating AA for PS3 and A for RE001... traction rating is determine by the stopping/braking distance in wet condition, it is a international standard...

as i heard spirited drive will only last not more than 20k km for RE001 while PS3 also around 25k km only... on wet performance it is hard to tell sometime as we don not have a standard setup to try both tires... but the traction rating shows the braking distance of RE001 is not as good as PS3 thats all... I'm using PS3 now but have not try out RE001 yet... that is because i need a good tires which i can use in extreme wet condition and Michelin tires is known of its capability in those extreme wet condition...
but if you need a weekend tires then it might be different... RE001 might suits you...

if not why don you try Toyo R888 or Federal RSR this 2 is similar like AD08... fun to drive in dry but need to becareful in wet...

well threadwear and traction and also temperature is under the international standard so called UTQG... so if the rating is there there must be a reason...
BTW the traction is for wet braking stopping distance... they tested it with a certain standard... read more you will know it is not for dry or cornering traction sweat.gif it there is no standard at all why they put it there...

@bro yngwie,
the huge pricing difference is for 16" and above, but for 15" it is almost similar or PS3 is a lil more expensive RM20/tire...

agrees with you on the ride quality and also the performance too but still a lil doubts on the wet...
still because of the stiffer sidewall it prevents me to get it coz i don like my ride to go too bumpy... 1 day i might be try it out but at the moment all my 15" tires is still good...
