hey guys,
i'm proud to say i've already stopped smoking for 2 weeks and been smoking for 7 years or so. I believe that the will to quit (it's not that difficult) actually is the most important. If you stick to a decision do it. That's all
I was on a pack a day, and the reason i started was peer pressure. Now, slowly try to erase that perception that smoking is cool and whatnot, and wahla. I bought the patch by nicorette, and the treatment to stop smoking last a month-2 months. I managed mine in 5 days with the patch, and now i've been patchless, and not looking back to smoking ever again. You guys can do it!

QUOTE(boonies @ Jun 15 2009, 12:19 AM)
I been smoking for 13 years and i just stopped early January this year! No cigs till now...and my secret formula is....

1. Set a date that you are comfortable with and don't force yourself or let anyone influence you. You don't need people to tell you that smoking is bad for health unless you are just born yesterday. Set a realistic date and then just do it at your own will.

2. Smoke as much as you can the last day and then call it quits. Throw the last stick away and say to yourself, "I had enough, I tried before and now I don't need it anymore". Just keep repeating.

3. The first 2 weeks will break u and can make some people go crazy. You will eat a lot, get very tired, easily irritated and just simply feel real down. During this period, just find something to take your mind of smoking. As for me, i took a bottle of wrigley's professional chewing gum everyday to keep my mouth occupied. It also cleans my teeth too.

4. No means no. Don't tell yourself you will take 1 stick today and quit tomorrow because there is always another tomorrow. Give it in and accept it. Be prepared that it's not going to be easy and then face it. Get support from your family and people. If your friend offers you a cigarette, tell them please don't because you are serious about quitting and it's very unethical for them to offer you to smoke.

5. As days go by, you will start to wonder hows the rest of your life will be without cigs. Don't think that far! The secret formula is that always tell yourself. "I just don't want to smoke today" and you will get by much easier.

6. Don't use patches, nicotine gum or anything that have nicotine because it doesn't work. That is simply because these products are gimmicks indirectly backed by cigarettes companies to keep you addicted to nicotine in hope one day you will go back to cigarettes. There is no other alternative besides quitting by your own will.

7. If you really can't stand it and smoked, then don't give up. Tell yourself you will try and not do it again and stop the next day. To make it hard for you, tell your friends and family aloud that "I will not smoke anymore and when a man says something, he will do it or else he is not a man!!" haha..and you will sure try not to smoke..!!

All the best!! thumbup.gif

It's good to hear that there is a lot of people that had stopped smoking smile.gif make the world a better place for you and for me laugh.gif

Reading through all the posts here, I guess to stop smoking, you need to have a STRONG WILL. Nothing else matters if you still THINK that you NEED to smoke and your dirty hands kept on holding to that ciggie!

I'm not posting this to tell all of you guys that I've QUIT SMOKING but to share with all that I'm experiencing a lot of health problems which I can directly relate to the effects of smoking. High Blood Pressure, high Pulse Rate, chest pain, difficulty to breathe and so on....

These outcomes has made me to consider to quit smoking as I fear that I would make my health condition worst. I've been a smoker for like 13 years now....

Expecting to gradually reduce my daily ciggy consumption....Hope that everything will turn out good...

WISH ME ALL THE LUCK Guys.....

Go to Singapore and stay for 1 month I think should be enough to help you stop coz they got so much restriction.

I hear try to keep yourself busy instead of eating snake helps divert your concentration.

depends on individual la the addiction. some people i know dont smoke regularly and dont buy smokes. but they smoke when they go to parties and ppl offer them..somtimes up to 3 or 4 sticks per party. but they not addicted. my friend recently quit smoking after so many years because he got really sick (like h1n1 symptoms). still get tempted when he goes out but i tell him to get over it lol

hi. don't waste time. just quit it right away. and of cause you will feel very disturbed without consuming them. but it will only last for a few days to weeks. well if you're determined why not. afterall, nobody favor a drug addict unless they are not thinking of their love ones. Go watch sad cases of people suffering from cancer at youttube. hope this info helps. no offense in any ways smile.gif

Just to share with you all about quit smoking.
I just quit smoking for the past few months ago.
before this, i have been a smoker for the past 10+ yrs (started when I'm 17).

i found the best effective way to stop smoking is by using the "cold turkey" methods. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_turkey

when i first start with this methods, i do feel the withdrawal effect and it really makes me want to buy cigarette. with the strong support from my gf and my own determination, the addiction start to get lesser and lesser as the days gone.

the first 3 days, the effect is damn strong and if you are able to survive it, you are sure to be able to beat it. whenever you feel like smoking, try to find something to eat. I keep on making myself busy with eating sweets/food/etc. I also make myself busy with other activity like going out shopping/etc with my gf.

Cold turkey methods can be hard as it requires the most determination.
