Good idea notworthy.gif

Better consult a doctor.

But some say minimize intake slowly.

Honestly, smoking is addictive...kinda like a drug addict...no offence.
Takes time.

My bro successfully stopped.
He had a fever as part of the the process.
The body need to 'flush' the nicotin out of the system.

Please use the search function. This topic has been discussed many times, and there are a lot of good info in those old threads.

Smoking is an addiction. No need to sugar coat it.
It is like addiction to drugs or alcohol. Different poison, same problem.

Quitting cold turkey or slowly depends on individual.
Some people quit cold turkey and never smoked again. Some simply tak boleh tahan and never made it.
Some took things easy and quit slowly. But some go into serious withdrawal problems when day reduce 1 ciggie a day.

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms last for only 2 weeks, the rest are psychological.

Read Allen Carr's How to Quit Smoking for better info. smile.gif

hi i have quit smoking before..and started again last march and now i have quit..it has been a week smoke free..the first time i quit, i did it cold turkey..had no withdrawal symptom aftre two years of heavy smoking!
this time after 5 weeks smoking, i starting having symptoms.. i think its the fact that i was eating good food ( i remember i was eaiting alot of tomatoes every daY)..and it cleared nicotine from my blood within days.
its more psychological for me now...i smoked out of sheer boredom (the worst thing to do, when you get bored easilY)

im smoke free 5 days but i get the urge...coz of boredom!!!so i just grab a book or watch a movie.

Added on June 11, 2009, 10:44 ama ciggaret has 4000 chemicals...that are not good. you get vitamin c and b complex deficiency..instead of you feeling good for awhile you will enetually feel low coz of these lack of vitamins.

vitamin C is good for buliding collagen and boosts immune system. B complex gives you good mood releases endorphine to help you manage stress. wihen you smoke you burn vitamin C and b complex so fast that after a day your skin shows the sign of ageing.

your blood will be contaminated with carbon monoxide..too much smoking can literally kill you due to carbon monoxide poisoning. there was a case a young guy of the age 18 smoked 5 boxes in a closed room and died of carbon monoxide poisoning...the boy is atually a brother of a friend of mine.

the urge is from your worst enemy...your brain! nicotine is highyly addictive but it is easiest to clear from your blood. eat lots of red coloured veggies and fruits plus spices like anise seed, liqourice! these fruits and spices are full of beta carotene and other favnoids know to eradicate nicotine within hours and aslo supplies much needed mood enhancers for the brain!
spices you can get from your food eaten at indian restaurant! ask for tomato chutney!

managed to make my bf quit by reducing amount of ciggies very gradually. 2 weeks reduce 1 ciggie, next 2 weeks another one, next month another, till 0 ciggie. took abt half a year, or more. i asked him abt his smoking evyday, if smth went wrong, we talked abt it and if its too soon, add back another ciggie. ur gf shud be ur best motivation i think. gez u wudnt want to harm her with ur smoke, if u love her. hihi.
also, bring ur gf when u hang out wit ur frens. at least during the early stage :-p maybe a supportive partner cud ease the process..

Exactly, support is the most neglected part of quitting.
And it is the most important part of quitting successfully.

Support and praise from family and friends.

I agree.

The hardest part is getting support when you need them and trust me, most smokers wouldn't like their fellow smokers quit smoking. smile.gif

yess. i think the biggest challenge is to refuse and say no when u lepak2 at kedai mamak n ur friends offer u ciggies. then when u say 'i'm quitting' come sarcastic laughs n comments. hahaha. smoking for guys is like bonding... but junxian, if u keep ur determination up, quitting is definitely not an impossible thing to do! best luck and success to u!

I been smoking for 13 years and i just stopped early January this year! No cigs till now...and my secret formula is....

1. Set a date that you are comfortable with and don't force yourself or let anyone influence you. You don't need people to tell you that smoking is bad for health unless you are just born yesterday. Set a realistic date and then just do it at your own will.

2. Smoke as much as you can the last day and then call it quits. Throw the last stick away and say to yourself, "I had enough, I tried before and now I don't need it anymore". Just keep repeating.

3. The first 2 weeks will break u and can make some people go crazy. You will eat a lot, get very tired, easily irritated and just simply feel real down. During this period, just find something to take your mind of smoking. As for me, i took a bottle of wrigley's professional chewing gum everyday to keep my mouth occupied. It also cleans my teeth too.

4. No means no. Don't tell yourself you will take 1 stick today and quit tomorrow because there is always another tomorrow. Give it in and accept it. Be prepared that it's not going to be easy and then face it. Get support from your family and people. If your friend offers you a cigarette, tell them please don't because you are serious about quitting and it's very unethical for them to offer you to smoke.

5. As days go by, you will start to wonder hows the rest of your life will be without cigs. Don't think that far! The secret formula is that always tell yourself. "I just don't want to smoke today" and you will get by much easier.

6. Don't use patches, nicotine gum or anything that have nicotine because it doesn't work. That is simply because these products are gimmicks indirectly backed by cigarettes companies to keep you addicted to nicotine in hope one day you will go back to cigarettes. There is no other alternative besides quitting by your own will.

7. If you really can't stand it and smoked, then don't give up. Tell yourself you will try and not do it again and stop the next day. To make it hard for you, tell your friends and family aloud that "I will not smoke anymore and when a man says something, he will do it or else he is not a man!!" haha..and you will sure try not to smoke..!!

All the best!! thumbup.gif
