Yeah....both of us has the same problem.

So mine is not an isolated case.
Was thinking of returning it back to the shop.

Now i don't unlock the ATI Overdrive, everything seems to be fine.

Maybe will try the new drivers and see if it still happens

Crashing due to overclocking isn't considered a problem. It just means that's it for your GC, you have reached its maximum potential. Return to shop just because it can't overclock? That's pretty stupid. Try to read the terms and conditions on CCC again, regarding overdrive(or maybe this would be your first).

Using CCC 9.5 here... I don't see anything different. Radeon HD 4890 here.

So, like I said before. No point changing~

But for 4770 users, I'm more than please to know your performance with the new driver. I'll be getting my hands on it next month. Buying it for my friend. Thanks~

I'm well aware that crashing during overclock is normal.
If you have read my earlier post, then u'll understand my problem.

Calling ppl stupid without understanding their problem is pretty stupid to me.

Try to read ppl earlier posting to gain an understanding.

Sorry, I wasn't saying you're stupid. The reasoning is. A play of words is a habit of mine whistling.gif .

Now then, from what I see, this is all about overclocking. Overclocking is not covered by warranty. There, I read your earlier posts, so what are you telling me, if not overclocking? That's why I said your reasoning is stupid.

Well anyway, overclocking 101. If you overdo your oc's, your chip will get 'soft' and will overclock less. I OC'ed my 4890 to 950 MHz once(plus voltmod. My chip sucks). Green patches of artifact starts appearing, which won't dissappear at whatever clock. A restart made it go away though.

What you are seeing are artifacts when your overclock. Some of the shader cores are generating errors when running at such clocks, and those errors show up as artifacts. I heard white artifacts are memory artifacts, while other colours belong to the core. Never tried to prove this though.

if i'm not mistaken the default speed is 750/800 right?

so u tried 775/810 and it crashed?

btw, what ccc version were u using? maybe u should try 9.5 and give it another go

I always got no luck with Catalyst Overdrive for my 4850, or should I say nightmare OC with it. I need to restart the PC even with 5Mhz of memory or core OC. Whereas Rivatuner give me stable OC from my testing at those speed or higher. But I would rather save the OC, not much performance difference, by softmod, that is my point of view.

yeah which is why i stopped doing GC OCing. too little gain for so much time spent.

however, i must say that i found that cards like HD4830 did show quite some improvement with a little OCing.

i didn't OC the HD4770 btw.

Comparatively is it easier to go for a Crossfire rig then an NVIDIA SLI?

I'm aiming to mate my ATI 4870 512MB GC with a ATI 4890 1Gb GC;do you have to swap PCI-e slots;primary/secondary GC is there an issue?
