i have asked someone before from sony style at the curve why their game prices are so high. he told me that sony have to pay government tax on every game they bring in. so that's the reason why their game price is high and that is probably also why their price on psn is also high.
Blaming tax is pretty stupid for a company as big as Astro. They never blame the govt when they priced their LCD TV or MP3 Player or even their earphone much higher compared to their competitors. Why blame the govt for teh high price in games?
Then why are their BD games are priced somewhat correctly...Looked at their price for BD games, most of teh latest games are prices at comparable prices. Newer games are riced at RM229 (WE2009 and etc) and other games are priced at RM219(MGS4, LBP, etc) Other games at RM199 to RM169 (SC4 and etc) and those under Greatest hits cn go as low as RM129 (Ratchet, Splinter Cell, Ass Creed, NGS and etc)
I personally think sony screwed up on their digital distribution market pricing and positioning. The must have thought that The gamers who buys PS3 and buys download games are the cream of teh crop. These buhch of customers are elites and willing to pay premuim prices to have teh latest gadgets and games. i.e. not normal gamers that still use Discs based games.
There is no f***ing way the govt charge that much for games, why are teh computer games so damn cheap? they are games too just like PS3 games. Don't tell me that computer games are tax free and such and just blame the govt again.
Again Sony is just too damn wrong in their PSN pricing scheme and the person responsible should be fired for not knowing the statistics and real situation in teh market.
Nuff rants from me...I won't even bother to create an MY account

Hi all,
Yes, that is correct. There is a 10% sales plus 30% excise duty the govt has to charge for any retailers who
wants to sell imported games/movies/software. The excise duty is discretionary depending on volume.
Sony (M) also have to pay for dealer network, servers and bandwidth to serve digital downloads. This is not cheap
yet in Malaysia and there are few competitors in area to offer competitive rates. The local PSN card (RM100) actually
requires EPAS (Elec. Point of Sale Act. System) but not all dealers have this comp ability, there a surcharge of RM10
is needed. Once the network is established, you should be able pay at the same rate. Bear in mind, there is very
very little profit margin for selling PSN card, some dealer may not want to do this because of the high cost of activation.
As for credit card, it will be coming soon but again this is not easy yet. Banks want those high service fees (2%-5%),
Sony needs to eat those fees (or charge you for it). I think they already did, therefore some games
you're seeing are already price higher that you would see at overseas PSN.
Yes, US PSN seems to have the cheaper DLC for now.
The goal for Sony is local consumers to enjoy local download and consume less international bandwidth - but right now,
they have to operate at higher cost.. just give it time.. (one year or more), the price may come down later.
Enjoy your new local PSN!
P.S. I'm not a Sony dealer but merely a 3rd party private reseller who has deal with them before. It is much easier
to deal with Sony USA than Sony Malaysia for now.

Don;t need to read the sales and whatever tax coz the pricing of BD games are not THAT high so why DLC have to be HIGH? it's not about taxes but it's about wrong pricing and marketing decision.
Second point that you make
This is teh problem with Sony, why launch something when the infrastructure is not in the works yet. You'll lose the goodwill and trust of all your customer if you start on teh wrong side of the fence. It's going to be very hard to jump over teh fence once all teh infra is place and cust's trust has already gone down the drain and they have all got other alternatives to the same thing (SG and US PSN). Like me, once I have my option of getting better prices for teh same thing, why go to Sony MY?
If sony wants to succeed, they have to invest in the infra, retailer support and etc. then only they can launch it successfully. No point launching something that the customer will never support coz in the end you'll just say...OH THE MALAYSIAN MARKET IS NOT READY FOR DIGITAL CONTENT YET.
oh and Mr Sony, if you are listening, MY Apple Store for my Ipod Touch is good enough foy me. Even though the price is still in USD and the selection is not as good as US Apple Store. We don't get screwed over. Oh and they are selling games too you know...so go learn from them how they did it....successfully I might say.
p/s: damooncake...no offense to you but I' just ranting on this board to SONY..I mostly only lurking on the board and post occasionally but I just got to post on this matter...as I'm so frusterated at Sony utter stupidness in assessing their market and product position. Maybe coz they thought MS Xbox360 is not officially launched here hence they don't have a competitor hence they can have a monopoly...Obviously Sony have not heard about those free browser games and free to play MMO/games that all our youngsters are mad about since the last 2-3 years. Oh I'm going mad thinking about the lost opportunity that Sony is going thru.
