Starcraft 2 Monthly Fees In Russia
SourceDunno what to say about this,as it feels a bit like double edge sword.
The good thing is,you'll get a cheap localised version that comes only with MP. Not everyone wants to play the campaign. Probably getting good pings too.
The bad thing is, loos like another attempt for Activision Blizzard to milk the franchise dry with monthly fees. If they can charge
25USD for a flying mount in WoW, whats stopping them for putting a monthly fees for SC2 else where in the world.
Seems like Blizzard isnt the same as before. Getting greedy. First with 60USD standard edition, and 100USD CE. Now these.
Seriously, what is wrong with that? If you ask me, I think it's a benefit towards the Russians. Allow me to requote the exact sentence:

To clarify, this is the Russian pricing model you are talking about. This is a very special case for Russia only. All other European versions will be without a monthly fee.
For the Russian version the monthly fee also only applies after the free months that come with the box are over and are only for the online version of the game. They can then purchase online game time or upgrade to a full EU access, that will grant them the same access as all other European players have without further monthly fees.
They can choose to either try the free StarCraft 2 for a few months & if they decided not to pay the monthly fee, they still get to play vs the AI, which I believe should be miles better than the current beta AI. If they think that the monthly fee is rubbish, they can then opt to upgrade it to the standard EU version & pew pew pew there.
AFAIK, Russians have different set of laws against piracy when compared with their EU neighbours, hence that could be another factor. Last but not least, I'm very sure that Russian kids will be very happy that they're no longer required to QQ their poor parents for a copy of the official StarCraft 2 when it gets released.
