What AW needs is a striker that can score 20-30 goals, and that can't come from eduardo, arshavin, vela, walcott, v.persie or bendtner

Van Persie had 20 last year. Wait till Eduardo and Vela features in at least ONE full season then I think it is only fair to judge them. Walcott and Arshavin aren't strikers. As for Bendtner he got 15 goals last year. I am confident he can easily hit 20 now that Ade is gone and he can start more matches this season considering almost half of his total number of appearances last year were as substitutes.

match tonight finally =) can see dudu play. so anyway vela helped mexico beat usa in last night gold cup match, scoring once and assisting twice. guess he wont be back till maybe next week

What's interesting to note is that in Flamini's best season, it's still only similar, if not poorer, to what Denilson has achieved last season where he was part of a midfield that was widely regarded as the worst under Arsene.



Some caveats to ponder while reading those articles and stats:
1. Matty had players like Tommy and Hleb around him for support, while Fabs was having the best season ever.

2. It took Matty 3 seasons before he made his mark, before that people didn't even care whether he would be sold or not.

3. Despite the aggressiveness of Matty, he still lost virtually the same amount of tackles compared to Denilson.

4. Denilson still made quite a lot of bad passes, but of course the more passes you make the more mistakes likely to occur.

This is why Denilson is still most likely to start ahead of Diaby and Song when everyone is fit and available. And it is why I'm not too fussed about not getting players like Cana/Veloso/Inler who ignite more interest in online forums than actual football scouts.

Oh yeah, the second site is very well-written and should be a part of our daily read instead of crappy rumour mills or arsenal-bashing crap like le grove.

Arshavin backs Gunners over Adebayor exit


Andrei Arshavin has backed Arsene Wenger's decision to sell Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City despite believing Mark Hughes' side can challenge the Gunners for a top four slot.

The Togo striker left for Eastlands last week for a fee of £25m, but Arshavin says the club should not keep players who want to leave.

He told Sports Weekend: "We lost a very strong player [Adebayor] and bought a good defender [Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax]. At the same time, our team continues to be one of the best in the English Premier League, even despite the fact that Adebayor left.

"If he wanted to leave, then it wasn't necessary to keep him in the team. Especially if the player doesn't want to turn out for us."

Arshavin thinks Arsenal will have a clutch of challengers for the Champions League places next season, but thinks the title winners will again come from the Premier League's so called 'big four'.

He said: "The champions will be exactly one of those four teams," he added. "With regard to the fight for the Champions League, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham will join them.

"The positive thing I see is that we do not play on January 1. On the other hand, we have a very difficult start, with four serious contenders at the very beginning.

"Then will be the Champions League matches and getting into this tournament is one of the main objectives at the start of the season. It won't be easy, but I hope that we can handle it."

Ahhh.... once again you do not let me down with some hard facts

Although there are ups and downs in the stats between Denilson and Flamini, this at least proves that Flamini is NOT the best midfielder and Denilson is NOT a trash. Hopefully this stats can build up some confidence among our members here. As for Song, I rate him somehow good... not losing far from the other two (in some area, he was even better) but considering the lesser play time, this is unfair to judge him with the other two.

However, we had reached a conclusion before when we discussed similar comparison between Denilson and Alonso: that Denilson does not have enough physical presence in the midfield. Some says it as the steel in the midfield, I'll say a lighthouse in the middle of rough sea where everyone knows there is "someone" in the midfield for defense or for passes and at the same time, this "someone" will surely give a good fight to win balls. This is both on practical and confidence boost. If only Denilson can grow bigger....
