Rent car is better.
Can plan your own time & stop anywhere you want to take nice pictures, etc.
Got grab ah in NZ?
I think maybe uber got but mostly in North Island only.
Many interesting places in South Island is in remote areas.

i went north & south nz for 10 days.. total cost including flight, motel, car rental, petrol, entrance fee, etc (except shopping & food) is RM4.3k only. Our cost saving due to
-AA flight sale
-travel in groups of 6. So, everything is divided by 6.
-most of the time, we cook..
-we skip expensive entertaintment (bungee, luge ride, muzium, etc) mostly because our itinerary is too pack already. We opt for scenery spots only. But we did pay for hobbiton.

I listed down our actual budget in my blog if u want to see for ur reference

Actually is including.
Lets say for 4k for expenditure. Including accommodation.

How long are you planning to be there? As some forumers have shared, you can go budget on your accommodation, transportation and activities to make your RM8K count. During my trip there, I spent on average RM650 per person per day all in. We went budget on accommodation and transportation but we also visited a lot of places and had the occasional nice meal instead of eating cheap all the time. Bottom line is, travel within your means and do what makes you happy on your trip.

Roughly 7-9 days.
I only keen on scenery and sight seeing.
Not yet start looking out for the spots since all last minute.

20nzd upwards for a decent meal mang

If in remote regions like queenstown and milford, lagi expensive

Cheaper if u cook most of the time, then splash occasionally on restaurants

got my flight to NZ Christchurch from March 20 until April 27 2023, will have a car and drive around south island, also do some hiking day trip. suprisely there's very little info on youtube. seem like NZ less popular place to visit.

I wonder if there's any discount app or sites we can use during our visit to purchase attractions and restaurant food, example https://www.bookme.co.nz/ or Klook.

www . cheapies . nz

Can keep an eye on this website. Sometimes got petrol discount at Gull for 10c, or sometimes 12c 20c off per litre. Normally before a public holiday eg Easter Monday April 10.. so maybe Thurs or Fri the week before start advertise.

Not all petrol stations will have discount..if got Gull petrol station one road, the other side of road got BP or Mobile, some tend to price match.

can drive using malaysian license. Makes sure you get the insurance cover etc... as RV tends to get broken into.

Also some carparks hard to park, I think Countdown Supermarket best for RV, their carparks longer.

heading to NZ in the coming Nov but still clueless about few things. Hope forumer can help me here..

1. Visa. I will be transiting at Aus via AA and board Jetstar from Melbourne to QN. Since it's different airline, meaning i need to check out and move the luggage during transit. Do i need a transit visa for this?

2. Car rental. I been browsing and Discover Cars always prompt out. Their price is really good for a 7 seater compared to others. Did any of your tried using the website and face any issues? Thanks.
