How Many Days To Spend At Least, For NZ Trip?
*
personally I'd say around 14 days for the whole south island. If you really want to do all the tramping/bungee/activities then you need more time and money. I spent 8 days in the south island and could only rush through a few sites, didn't have time to really go to the north or southern parts of the south island. Also if you're there during peak season eg. summer or world cup rugby then definitely add a few more days since it'll be more crowded.

I would say 2 weeks at least. Depends on where you want to cover. North or South island?
Usually my family takes 4 weeks to travel around NZ. Self-drive.

Christchurch is one town in a reasonably sized island. Why limit yourself just because one town is hit?

Because I do plan to take Air Asia to NZ if there is any trip planned. And AA will land in christchurch. Usually when I travel to a country I've never been to, I will spend quite a lot of time at the city I land first.

I'm not the type of traveller that spends like 1 full day at a city/town and then head elsewhere and spend another 1 full day there and so on. If i do that, I will feel that I was never there!

Oh well, maybe in a couple of years time!

I understand your way of travelling, I enjoy doing the same as well but NZ is well known for its nature and outdoors. I suggest that you go to NZ and head for the great outdoors, not spend 2-3 days in Christchurch which is IMO just like any other city you see in Australia or Europe.

You can always take JetStar instead and fly straight to Auckland from KL, transit in Singapore.

It's a must-go vacation if you haven't been to NZ before. laugh.gif

Anyone here in CHC now? How's the condition there? I'll be going there end of this month and overnight at airport. The airport ok to overnight for few hours? Say midnight to 5am. tongue.gif Then I'll be flying to Auckland.

Hi there, isit advisable to go NZ during early august ? It's at the end of the winter season right ? I've never been to NZ and planning this trip with some friends .

If yeah, would the activities around NZ be available ? Like the places / activities glacier hike , Queenstown activites , Hooker Valley walk , water rafting ?

much advice is really appreciated .

QUOTE(navilink @ May 15 2011, 09:52 PM)
I try to describe the itinerary as below:
Christchurch to Franz Josef - At Franz Josef u can do glacier hike, take the full day hike, half day not worth it
Franz Josef to Makarora - Makarora surrounded by mountains, only hikings to do here else nothing else to do, dead place
Makarora to Queenstown - QT the famous one lo, just go i-Site to browse thru gazillions of activities offered
Queenstown to Aoraki/Mt Cook - Mt Cook is damnn awesome, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. If got time, go do Hooker Valley Walk (~3-4hr return)
Mt Cook to Rangitata - ONLY thing to do in Rangitata is water rafting, else it's a dead place
hope it helps!

Which part of NZ are you going?
You can easily find that info via Google.

Where will you be flying in to?
It's best to plan out your NZ trip beforehand rather than going there and do things spontaneously as you may not be able to cover as much. smile.gif

Am planning to go to South Island NZ via Christchurch this coming November. Maybe gonna spending around 8 to 7 days there. We will be staying in Hotel St Moritz Queenstown, Accor Vacation Club Apartments since we have a timeshare there. I don't know how far it is from Christchurch?

Can anyone suggest what kind of activities that can be done there? Am planning to bring RM5k cash. Would it be enough?
