i'm really getting worried about the up coming raya holidays. i don't mind the food becoz i can alwyas power feed the scorps and let them fast but i'm worried about the humidity of the substrates.
the drip system is a bit fussy. if the condensation is high then it is not a problem but if the condensation is low then it might get to moist and mites or what not will thrive. i'm experimenting with a false bottom setup that can hold about 2 liters of water. want to see how long does the substrate moistness can last till it is bone dry. |

chill out guys. a little fun don;t hurt as long as we know when to stop.
continuing my discussion with hyorinmaru, now both of my scorps are out of the hide and chilling out in the enclosure. the male is on the mating rock while the female has burrowed in reverse in to the substrate until only the pincers and head is left visible. she is acting like a lion ant. |

can u see the meal worm in the old setup picture. center bottom. that is the entrance of the hide. but they don' t like it and burrow beneath the grass. since the old setup was a false bottom tank, underneath the grass was water, soil and clay, the scorpions ended up real dirty and there was a risk of drowning.the scorpion that is in the picture is Banyin, sub adult female.

i'm using a Rm16.50 large plastic tupper ware that i bought at a shop near my house.
much cheaper then any aquarium. and because the plastic is not really clear, it is like smoke glass like that, the scorpions do spend more time outside even in day time. if you close the lid and only open it like 2 days once, you don't even need to spray the substrate because the water will evaporate and condense back into the substrate. Added on May 31, 2009, 1:28 amas i'm writing this i can see them moving around in the tank with my room lighs on. This post has been edited by akagidemon: May 31 2009, 01:28 AM |

sorry to hear your lost rideon. bad luck. nature is a fickle mistress ain't she? aswering to a question earlier on yes i use red led for the lighting. this week is a "lost" week for alot of us. i lost 3 loicheles last night. 1 big liocheles canibalise 3 smaller liocheles. and i thought they were communal. |

yoh rideon. how was ur trip?
nothing much just got caught up with work. doing straight 16 hours now. have to wait till 8th june then can rest for a couple of days. interesting you guys are talking about scorpions in religious context. when i told my boss that i was keeping scorpions he said that scorpions are animals like snakes and centipede from the grave and are a reminder from God of the punishment in the grave that one will received when they die if they were naughty when they are alive. |

i agree. it is a reminder. even if you kill all the scorpions in the world, you are still going to get your punishment in the grave.
ok enough talk about religions. in the J. rhenaniae article, they said if the oxygen level is high then the creature will be big. i wonder if i pump pure oxygen into a tank full of scorpling and keep it that way for a couple of generations will they get bigger? imagine a 2 feet AFS or emperor. just a thought, not even going to try it. |

hahaha, it doesn't hurt to dream.
oh by the way what type of water you guys give your scorpions, ive been reading a lot about that tap water is harmful to the scorpions because it have chlorine in it and the best is distilled water where it is pure water, some even say that mineral water is the best because it contains mineral in it. since it is raining regularly now in Sibu, i'm using rain water. which i think is a type of mineral water. just a few pics to liven things up.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Added on June 2, 2009, 2:42 amthere are litmus kits or how should i put it test kits that can test for ph levels. just need to find one that suits our need. this is a not proven info or theory. it is an interesting point to test out thou. need to find that ph test kit. but if i'm not mistaken chlorine is an alkaline or a base. i'm not good with chemistry. and there were reported cases when swimming pool ceilings that are suspended by metal rods collapsing due to the effect of chlorine in the swimming pool water. another question that can be ask is what type of chlorine is in our water?
