I never heard of ppl actually replacing it. If u have share wit us

Is like motherboard battery. Generally no need to replace the battery. By the time the battery is up, is already time to change h/p whistling.gif

ebackbone,

I guess there is nothing much you can do. It is an AP unit.

1) Complain to NCC, tribunal case, etc. Legal way, you are not going to win. The scratch marks, battery, wear and tear cannot be claimed. You back to square one.
Worry and headache for you.

2) Submit back to the shop for warranty. You have to wait long long. No results. Nothing fixed. Phone gets worse. You can't use the phone. Warranty lapse. They may continue to cannibalise your phone
Worry and headache for you.

3) Send to other shops to fix. Void warranty. Cost maybe be more than half the price of the phone to fix everything. May not worth it. May not be 100% fixable also.

My suggested solution:
Either take one of the steps above. Or live with it. That's the price to pay for AP unit when problem happens.

To all the rest,
AP unit may be cheaper, only if no problem happens. I always suggest ppl to buy from authorised shops for phones >RM1k.

Just consider the extra you pay over the AP unit as buying insurance. When problem happens, you can bet on Nokia and legal ways to support you for part replacement, even if you have to take the long legal way.

QUOTE(ebackbone @ Sep 24 2009, 11:03 AM)
Actually, the reason i went with AP was that Nokia original warranty is only for 1 year whereas the AP is 1year and a half and when the warranty is lapsed, either way you will still have to pay to fix your machine so i thought it would be better to go the AP way because longer warranty and in the end still need to pay to fix the machine regardless.

Thanks all for your replies. Will now consider what is the best path to take.

So for all those who is thinking of getting a good nokia unit especially the out of production n82, you should know which AP warranty shop to avoid now.. cause your pretty decent mobile going in may come out differently!! The people working in that shop is just plain terrible at repairs. When i think about it, it's terrible to fix a mobile phone at such below par levels.
*
About the AP 18-24 months extended warranty, I don't believe in it as per all the feedback I hear over the years, including yours now. When problem happens, whether in 1st month or 23rd month, it is still the same problem to get it fixed and headache as you mentioned above, again and again.

I will still pay higher for a shorter and standard 12 months warranty. No hanky panky. No free lunch.

12 months warranty is standard for most normal branded electrical goods like Dell, HP, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, etc. e.g. PC, notebook, TV, fridge, washing machine, playstation3, wii, etc.

If indeed it spoils on 13th month, it is time to pay myself to fix it or buy a new one. I have encountered several times electrical things spoil on 13th-14th month. But I also encounter things spoil within warranty, and so far I recall I don't have a very big headache about claiming warranty. Just some standard process only and I get it fixed, no scratch, no swap parts, no hanky panky.

If I don't get it fixed, I'll complain to their principal, and they will take action towards their local distributor/vendor on support/maintenance. So far I don't need to go into legal process yet.

i think the business setting and strong competition at lowyat is also to blame for the irresponsible AP sellers. They'd do anything to earn an extra buck or two. In a better environment, i guess AP sets should be able to provided a more affordable price.
*
It is a supply and demand issue. When there is demand from ppl (customer) for cheapest set with all original stuff taken out, this is the result. You pay peanuts, you get monkey phones. If the phone has no problem, then you save the extra money. But once it has problem, nightmares come. They may replace your AP phone with another phone, and continue sell the AP phone to someone else, which will be another unlucky customer. Especially when it has intermittent problem which you can't detect when buying. In this way, they get your cash to rollover, while you got nothing (no phone) to use while they just put aside and say wait, fixing. When you come, they pass you the same phone, nothing fixed. You use 1 week, come back again, keep in their shop for another 2 months, meanwhile getting trash left and right, cannabalise for parts, etc. Continue again and again...

If there is no demand for AP set, e.g. like Singapore, then all will be sell at near similiar price, with extra goodies thrown in by the seller to attract customer. When problem happens, no hanky panky. They must fixed it, otherwise complain to principal and the distributor/reseller will get warned or contract terminated.

On current technology frontier, N82 is considered quite old already, coming to two years soon. The general consensus is no more updates/patches for N82. Even production for new N82 units also already stopped. However, there are still demand for new/AP units as well as 2nd hand units. Don't know how long N82 can last ...

I search, but no change log out yet. Weird. Nokia should release the change log before release the firmware.

It is like selling new car without giving out the specs. rclxub.gif

Your h/p should not 'kong' in this case. It has 2 main steps:
1) Download 120MB+ , will not affect the phone, as it is a file download process only.
2) Finish download. Upgrade firmware, this is where the possibility will 'kong' your phone.

In your N82, open File Manager (or any other Explorer). Goto your Memory Card (E:\) and run/install the GarminMobileXT.sis (or similiar name).

Then try launch the application again.

I'm still on Nokia PC Suite, not yet migrate to OVI Suite.

PC Suite -> Connect to Internet using my N82 with unlimited data plan = stable. Less problem.

N82 and Nokia GPS chips accuracy about +/- 9m (27-30 ft)

Latest dedicated GPS device like Garmin, Papago, etc. accuracy about 1m-3m
Older models about 3m-5m

Industrial/Military device accuracy up to 30-100 centimetres.

When using GMXT or any GPS, it is just a guidance only. Don't follow 100%. Use your own judgement and instinct.
If I follow 100%, I should have drive my car into drain, river, pond, people's house, etc.

About the go up/down ramp and left/right exit at interchange, again use your instinct and eyes. There are many times it ask to keep left and go up ramp, but the interchange is no ramp and it goes down to exit.

If you drive a lot and rely a lot on GPS, I suggest to get a dedicated GPS device. You can always use the GPS device directly or link it back to N82 (bluetooth).

Advantage to N82:
- Won't use up your N82 batteries
- Definitely better accuracy
