So your industry is marine or OnG? different ler..
2 years contract with chemical plant in jurong island or "Jurong Chemical Plant"?
*
We do both, oil rig also considered as oil and gas, chemical plant aka shell refinery also considered OnG. Anything, even MRT structure, as long made of metal can test it, usually x-ray inspection.

I forgot which company, if i not mistaken with one of the oil and gas company since one of their plants going to be shutdown in phases.

I know oil rig and chemical plant considered OnG, but nothing related to marine, right?
Your company doing ship conversion? This is marine industry..
PM me your company name, can?
Im working in jurong island under chemical plant project, it's shutdown and revamp job..
*
Our clients also inlcude keppel shipyard as well as sembawang shipyard since we do UTM measurements on ship hulls. So that covers the marine aspect. UTM can be done on anything made of suitable metal which can be calibrated to our instruments, thats if you have the proper reference block.

We dont do ship conversion, thats more like keppel tuas and keppel fels where they do FPSO conversion, but to be frank, they do conversion on some ships which are in quite bad condition as it is plus if it may gone through a couple of special surveys.

Literally have to strip the ship to bare metal shell to do a "proper" job. But if its just adequate for their requirements, then they just do it. I pity the labourers who have to gut the ship out first since its incredibly dirty, after say more then 10-20 years in operation. At least its better then sending it to india for scrap iron i suppose.

those places of course got la... but even bugis and raffles place also have some weird china tourist asking for directions, but he will lead the conversation to money begging..

luckily the china ppl ask me direction is just for direction. unfortunately most of the time, the place they asking for, i too am just passing around the area, so of course of no help to them.

Losing a dollar is nothing compared to losing 100 dollar out of pity ( and stupidity on the fella you tried to help out). making that an expensive lesson to learn. Some ppl even have the balls to say that they will pay back, dont worry, i am singaporean BS.

Well i do know for one thing, chinas shipyard, mainly on ship repairs, conversions and building of jack up rigs in the near future will be shot down. Currently i am attached to 2 ships from different owners who had some initial conversion modules done at china and the remaining to be done in singapore.

The china shipyards **** up big time, their work ethics, QA/QC department must have been sleeping since once we started to do initial survey on the ships for the final stage of conversion of the ship, it was found that the initial repairs as well as preliminary conversions were so badly done that the singapore side has to go back to square one and do a proper job since the china ppl couldnt do squat.
All becoz of trying to save money doing the work at china.

Now the ship owners gotta poney up more cash and time to do it proper here. As long as china ppl have the "ali baba" attitude which inlcudes their food products, it maybe cheap but be warn since their quality is not just questionable, it downright rotten.

Even when they hire some of their china welders to do repairs, sure not up to spec and i have to ask them to redo everything again since its not per acceptance criteria, and they lament in china they never got probs, no wonder their buildings fall on top of their heads.

kinda like the quality and reputation of electronic products made in taiwan in the early to late 80s.
eventually, they will get their act together. question is when.

too bad I don't feel the same way bout the state of our homeland....
*
I dont have high hopes they will change their "close one eye" syndrome anytime soon.

Even contractors in china working on behalf of their company from singapore or even the US who had to employ china ppl in shipyards and some petrochemical plants also lament this problem. But since their in china, they just keep their mouths shut until they get out of china, then when beer flows, the stories flow of the horror stories of the haphazard work these ppl follow.

"Hey this pipeline got severe cracks plus your not suppose to push the BAR that high."

Chinaman response "Never mind, nearly all of the pipelines are these way and i;ve had got a problem. Why you complain so much?" They obviously havent even heard of risk management.

The one thing i can think of which they are reasonably good is their implementation of the "Great Fire Wall of china".

Its just a body. Unless you care about the symbol which is attached to a dead man. Like saying you dont want hitlers corpse to be in germany.

Does anybody know whats the going rate for studio apartments rental wise? I was reading the sunday newspapers and they mentioned units such as those which are designed similar to those in america like in new york or san francisco.

They even have the layout of the studio apartment. reminds me of those small rooms in japan for young adults.

Anyone experience before whereby the employer making false employment details to MOM. For example employer tends to hike up the salary of the employee inorder to be granted a Employment Pass from MOM. In actual fact, the employer is only paying much lower than the amount.

Having said that, what happens when MOM finds out about the fraud? Would they accuse both employee and employer of collusion and slap the employer with a fine? The pity employee will be shipped back to the country of origin?
*
That is quite common practice in singapore. Its like an open secret, ppl know about it but dont take any action on it to save guard their livelihood. If you do report to the authorities, then most likely the management would find some kind of excuse to kick you out or make your job so unbearable that you will quit on your own.

Either way, you are screwed and you cant expect the sing gov to help you out, so by reporting this to mom you are essential taking a bullet for yourself as well as your employer. And if you do this just after you resign, you will be viewed as a fella who like to "sabo" ppls corrupt business.

if I were you, I would go to the new job. Are you a PR? Is the new job from a MNC? If yes, then no nid to think, go to the new job. I went to do my medical check on monday and also do a bit survey on phone lines, broadband and stuff. I notice that when u tell ppl that u work in a MNC, even you are a foreigner, they will think like (wah, this guys is working in XXX company, must be very professional and good future). Like renting a room, even ppl are offering higher rent than me, they prefere to rent it to me bcoz i am working for a MNC. I believe with $1.8k as basic, you are holding a WP rite? with $2.5k, you will be holding an EP. When I tell those mobile phone provider i am holding a S pass, they say you don't have to pay any foreigner deposit and stuff. only those holding WP need to pay. Make me feel that I am not being treated as a foreigner and the fear that I have before this is totally gone. So happy now.
*
True, coz of what type of permit you cant get access or have to pay a premium for certain things like mobile phones or internet services. If you get EP, then no problems at all, even better if PR, but quite a few ppl are on WP.

Even my bros GF who has a degree from UK kena stuck with WP.

Wow... this stuff is like the plot from a Japanese AV movie... from a lot of Japanese AV movies actually.

She better learn to say "yamete... yamete...".

But jokes aside... she can either lock her room and sun her undies in her room instead of the common area... or complain to the landlord... but that's 50/50 at best. So be prepared to move out if the landlord doesn't take too kindly to being called the father/mother of a budding pervert.

Oh... if she uses a common bathroom, check the door, sills, window, smoke detector, whatever... or else she might just find herself on gutteruncensored.
*
Its an example really. Plus isnt gutteruncensored on and off again?

I do know off a girl whome she suspects her landlord or one of the family members from going into her room once in a blue moon but she cant just outright accuse her landlord since she doesnt have proof and wont spend the money on getting a remote camera just to see who it is, if it is anybody.

I on the other hand have to put up with my landlords basturd child.

Actually both the mom (divorcee) and son are at fault coz the son who is in sec 1 (13years old if i am correct) still doesnt want 2 flush his pee or poop, the reason why is coz his mom does it for him so he has been brought up till now with his mom flushing the toilet for him. And his mom actually came and told me not to worry since if she is around, she will flush on her sons behalf. The reason why the mom does it for her son since she give up trying to teach him to flush the toilet after himself.

Once i heard that, i knew her son gone case oledi.

S-Pass = low class ppl,

EP = High class people.
just ignore me tongue.gif

Added on November 2, 2009, 11:00 amas far as I know, S-pass is not elligible to get any dependent pass for their spouse where as different categories of EP allow them to apply different amount of dependent pass.
*
If s-pass is low class, then what about WP?

I know a few singaporeans who are paid much less then an s-pass. So are they considered lower then a s-pass low class fella?

y sign 2 years? i have never heard of 2 years contract as 1 year is enough. if the following year u wish to continue then u can skip going through the agent as u have already stayed there for a year and able to negotiate with the landlord without notifying the agent.
*
True, agent is like the introduction. If agent can get money like that, then everyone would want 2 become agent coz easy money.
