most of the ads you see in newspapers or online are through agent already... so when you first rent a room, expect to upfront pay agent fees which is usually 1/2 of monthly rate and pay landlord 1 month refundable deposit.
Utility rooms normally quite small, but depends, maybe its upgraded or something. Give a call to ask about the size.
*
Utility rooms are always small. The problem with renting with a landlord, while staying with the landlord is if there is a disagreement, then you gotta leave and you would have wasted your agent money as well as have to spend time to move your items as well as finding a new place.

I heard that Keppel gives 5 to 6 months bonus each year, how true is that?
All the subsidiaries under Keppel Corporation gives 5 to 6 months bonus?
like Keppel Shipyard, Keppel FELS, Keppel Singmarine, etc..
*
Keppel tuas bonus for 2009 which is given out the subsequent year, is 9 months across the board except for upper management where their bonus is calculated with a diff rate.

I know a project supervisor over there who earning around 4-5k. So his bonus is nearly 50K. One lump sum you can go buy a car in malaysia.

Sembawang shipyard is around 7-8 months for engineers, as far as i have heard.

How come your current company is so funny?

When you career advances, there's is no $? Then is it really advancement?
*
Career advancement doesnt necessary mean pay increase, thought it should be.

Like some supervisor manager earn less then an engineer in different fields. Depends on industry. Like finance banker, they dont get 9 month bonus like the staff in keppel, even the hot work people aka welder, fitter etc also get 9 months bonus, no discrimination among the lower ranks in terms of bonus payout.

hi ppl... have been following ur thread here for months dy.. i m going spore after cny for job hunting too. =) wondering if i only start interviewing on early march would be late? or end of february would be better?
*
Either would be fine.

Usually business will start to pick up after CNY, so businesses either do the conventional method of hiring after CNY or they start hiring b4 CNY so that they can meet demand with a properly allocated workforce rather then last min scrambling to meet deadlines while trying to hire people at the same time.

Wow, like that a bank counter staff for DBS gets at least 10 months bonus. No wonder people are clamoring to the banking sector.

Too bad public bank or maybank in malaysia doesnt have this type of payout for their front line staff.

I applied from Keppel website, most probably i'll not take up the offer, although their bonus is damn good! And annual leave 18 days!
But basic and increment is low.

you working in marine industry? what is your company?
*
18 days annual leave is good? If you want long annual leave, then at least 30 days. 18 days is just barely above half a month.

I guess he working for alpine services or heatec jietong.

MNC staff also have to take instructions from the higher ups. Usually its worst since theres alot of bureaucracy. Keppel is a good example where in order to get a something thing, you are made to jumps hoops to get a simple thing done.

QUOTE(Jurlique @ Feb 23 2010, 10:16 PM)
Wow, just came back from Singapore Casino which I have just won SGD75 playing baccarat.

The casino only houses only a single general floor but the space occupied is very large, larger than Malaysia Casino. To enter the 2nd floor, you need to be a VIP showing proof that you have $100K (if I am not mistaken).

Overall, Singapore Casino looks damn grand (like a Oscars Hall)... but I still loves the Msia Casino as it have more "Casino Feel". The Spore Casino is too boring despite being grand.

Many gaming tables are not open.

For free drinks, it only has chinese tea, plain water and teh tarik. So, Msia casino is better as it provides not only the above, but free orange juice, bandung, milo and cappoccino as well. But definately loses to Macau Casino lah in term of free drinks and free food.

Many croupiers are still inexperience, their action are rather too slow in distributing the cards or in paying the winning bets. I heard wispers that a women beside me got rewarded additional chips she won.. Walao Eh!!!

For Sporeans and PR, I believe you all are aware that a $100 levy will be imposed (you may however, enter and exit the casino numerous times within the 24 hrs timeframe.)

For Work Permit holders, you only required to show your Work Passes as it has a photo embeded into the pass.

For EP holders, you may however need to show both your EP Pass and your Malaysian IC as EP Pass do not have a photo embeded into the card.

Hope the above info did do great help for those who intend to visit the Casino.

Today, the Star Malaysia published that a Chinese National won $1.5m just by playing Baccarat alone.

I also heard rumours that the authorities may impose the levy on WP/EP holders very soon to deter all Banglas workers and Indon maids from flooding into the casino during weekends to enjoy live pretty girls show and free drinks but do not intend to gamble.

So, please go to the casino As Soon As U Can while it is still free....!!!!
*
No way bangla and indon maids will visit there since...

1. When has an indon maid have the free time to goto a casino, let alone even out of the house since they start work at 6am and only finish around 10pm or even later. The only thing on their mind is to have a good nights rest.

2. My work brings me on contact with a number of bangla workers and do you know they paid less then 800 dollars month (inlcuding OT), they dont have a fix monthly salary but get paid by the day. So when they dont work, they dont get paid.

Yes, and banglas and indon maids would rather spend their time in a casino. They arent well known for gambling btw, much less games like poker or russian roulette. Usually they hop to the toto shop to try their luck on striking 3d number since its way cheaper then travelling to sentosa and then plonking down money to gamble. I wonder whats the minimum bet since heatec jietong workers got a 2 dollar ang pow from their boss, this coming from a guy who has a lambo no less.

Only those with money to burn, are addicted or go there just for the heck of it just to exp a casino.

hope when in sg can strive for the besT~

so.. when i going through the immigrant or the ICS, do i need to provide the letter from MOM or just take the 14 days tourist visa le? hmm...  hmm.gif
*
I initially came into singapore on a tourist visa, later got my pass within the 14 days and everything was fine. Once you goto mom to get your pass, thats about it. No need inform immigration that your tourist visa expired since your not a tourist anymore.

nola, when u enter Singapore, just tell them you come to do work pass. but last time, even when i come for interview, they "chop" 30 days for me de. no nid to worry on that.

went to RWS yesterday. I am a Silver card holder in Genting, so they issue me a RWS silver card on the spot. Couldn't see any free food outside, so decided to go inside the VIP room. There is 1 corner with food and waiter/waitress at that area. its smth like buffet, but i didn't see any cashier around. does that means it is free? i dun dare to go and eat though tongue.gif
*
You are willing you spend the money to gamble to achieve the silver card status but your afraid to eat food at the buffet due to cost?

i'm looking for IT support in SG. Anyone got idea? Mainly supporting desktop, server, wintel basis.

Doesnt singapore outsource most of this type of work to manila or malaysia? Coz whenever i have a prob with my dell or lenovo machines, their technical support is based in malaysia. Symantecs tech support comes from manila.

its different from Genting in Malaysia la, Genting hotels 1 night only cost about RM200-300. In RWS their hotel prices already cost  $400-600. who knows their price might be $50 for a plate or cha kueh tiau. lolz
*
You remind me of the typical chinese business man. They are willing to fork down the money for 5 star accommodations, but wont touch the food there, rather they would buy and eat cup noodles in their suite.

How much is considered high pay in Singapore?
Can I use the same standard as in Malaysia, just taking the rate and without currency?
*
Generally, dollar for dollar, singapore still pays better then malaysia, i suppose it depends from industry to industry. A frens brother was relocated to singapore and he is earning more then what he was getting in malaysia, to top it all off its in sing dollar and he gets a condo to live in for the next 2 years and other misc allowances. He's working in the semi con industry.

1. He probably got a promotion as an incentive to move internationally. Even 2 step promotions are not uncommon if they need someone to fill the role.

2. The allowances and condo... it's not permanent. That's what's called a relo (relocation) package and it's pretty standard terms in MNCs if you are not given an expat package.

But you were right initially, renumeration packages are generally S$1:RM1 for the same job/responsibility level.
*
Who said it was permanent in the first place? Its just an incentive to get ppl to come over with the necessary skill set. Allowances and accommodations can be renegotiated when the times come or finding another employer who is willing to give a better offer then your existing contract.

Quite a number of malaysians dont like singapore. I wonder if singapore as a country itself would say good riddance to these ppl coz that would be really douche, reminds of me malaysian saying "You ak suka, you boleh keluar BS". But then again, most singaporeans and a number of PR have been accustomed to being a douche bag after "monkey see, moneky do".

if u are sincere, i can recommend u la, but dun like another guy (i dun wan to mention name) i recommend his gf, then when ppl call her for interview, she ffk. I so "pai seh" recommend then the reason she give to ffk the interview is bcoz the work place is too far. if you know that its far, u shouldn't apply in the 1st place =.=
*
Why need to be ashamed since you just showed the person a door, that fella is the one who has to go through it, not you.

when we recommend someone in to the company, we need to write our review on that staff ma. So i reviewed her nice nice even i doesn't know her then now she ffk me. of course indirectly that is going to affect me also lo.
*
Wow, you have to write a review of a person b4 they even have a chance for an interview? So if you wrote a glowing review, thats not indirectly since you have it in writing that the fella is etc etc. So essentially your head is on the chopping block.

Most recommendations that i know of are verbal where one staff may hint to the HR personnel that there is a suitable candidate, i've not heard where an employee has to write up to the HR department about a potential employee.

I just give the fella the HR's e-mail and see how it goes.
