@khai84siong,Mushkin RAM can't change CL2 to 2.5? System can't boot up after that? That is hard to troubleshoot already. Penang shop, can try to ask around BJ area, but i don't think have carry Musshkin RAM there.

You may go to ask around, have no idea too.Intel system can't boot with CL2.5,i think that is not logic.

Drivers shouldn't be a big issue if you installed the correct/compatible version.Don't worry too much with them.

Anyway, I am making my P4 into a "server" now. Just for downloading 24/7 and as network storage place.

I am thinking to downclock it back to 2.4, add in another 1TB hard disk next month and another 1TB the following month.

Anymore recommendations?
*
Good idea to turn P4 rig into a server. Down clock also can save some energy on the system.

QUOTE(ktek @ Oct 25 2009, 03:07 AM)
Black level II, old school Winbond BH-5 never boot at CL2.5 or CL3 = normal
keep feeding it voltz brows.gif it will show u da "REAL characteristics"

@khai84siong: if you want to trade, i got 1GB kit TCCD which is very tame for intel systems.
PM for more info..
*
BH5 can't boot at CL2.5?Then it is wasted on our board cause can't feed > 2.85 volt of most of the Intel boards. TCCD RAM,very nice. It works with the minimum 2.6V on higher frequency.

@V12Kompressor, get Win XP to be installed in the server there cause currently is the most popular and stable. Win7 is still in RTM version, not sure the retail version has reach our shore here. On the GC,maybe you can get a decent HD4650 from Sapphire. Has a forummer here selling this card at RM250 only. It is an AGP slot.

@AlexLee277,3.4GHz Northwood is having 512kb L2 cache while Prescott will be having 1MB. I can always welcome LGA775 users from Pentium 4 too cause i do noticed some LGA membes will actually drop by this thread here. But there is an existibng LGA 775 thread which ksking championing,he is not really active for long time and the thread is also not really active in discussion. Don't know can i sapu the thread and host it or not. Then we will have more discussion in LGa775 regardless of P4 to C2Q.

Added on October 27, 2009, 10:16 pm@Alex,i see you are offering on the 6800GT. Just grab it even the TS is offering RM130 cause it is with Zalman cooler.I feel it worths.6800GT able to beat 7300GT in any games.

The other dedicated lga775 thread is almost abandoned as I can see it, we can open this to accept some lga775 discussions here as we can see some 775ers are still using prescott and pentium 4 series. Up to you ray, but let that thread as it is, no need to sapu.
*
I think for the moment i will also welcome any LGA775 users on P4 to join here for discussion. Maybe later can add on the P4 discussion by adding the LGA socket in front of the title there.

mine has only lime green, light blue, and pink as for the mic.

oh yeah 4.1 sorry, so i plugged my 2.1 into the lime green

monitor has audio in and out, no idea which one to plug it into to connect it to light blue.
-edited-

do you guys think that ATI 4650 is able to do decoding for 1080p mkv movies and loosen the weight for my processor?
*
Monitor has integrated speakers? Blue port should be the line in port, you should plug to the lime green port. On HD4650,the GC would definitely help on 1080p mkv decoding. Who else here has tested out with the 1080p on .mkv ext files?

Which mobo are you with?

QUOTE(toottut89 @ Oct 29 2009, 12:13 AM)
HD4650 can do the decoding right? so i don't have to use an high end processor for it?
i'm very curious about this, i've searched uncle google, some says yes some says no.

yeah monitor has intergrated speakers, do i need a blue head jack to do so? because it came with green one. and on my soundcard the green jack i already have my 2.1 in it.
*
I am not too sure also, need to ask other experts here. hmm.gif

answer is YES and NO. if your file is encoded in H.264, then YES. if file is under normal xvid or other format, then NO.
*
edmin, actually i did tested a .mkv movie yesterday on my pc. The short clip was given by shinjite. I found that my GC was utilizez about 6-8% of the processing power only while my processor is 99% on loading. I can conclude it was not encoded in .H.264 format?

not really bro, sometimes you'll need to configure your codec to run the files on DXVA (hardware acceleration) instead of software. try follow the guide here:

Guide to MKV x.264 GPU acceleration  - How would you like to learn to playback MKV / x.264 content 98% accelerated by your Radeon of GeForce graphics card ? And we'll even go a step further, optimize image quality with the help of your graphics card shader processors ?

http://www.guru3d.com/article/accelerate-x...-the-gpu-guide/

UPDATE: Ray, i checked that DXVA only available for Radeon 3000 and nvidia 8000 series GPU.

For graphics processing we need:

    * nVidia series 8*, (9)xxx and GTX or newer.
    * ATI Radeon HD series 3000 and 4000 or newer.

* some older models 8800 cards have the older VP1 (video processing) engine, the updated NVIDIA VP2 asic can decode bitstreams which is what we are after. Examples of VP1 would be 8800 GTS 320 and 640 MB. You will still be able to decode content, yet partly. The 8800 GTS 512MB en newer cards have the new VP2 engine, which will be 100% supported.
*
Mr. edmin,my gpu is not able to support on this hardware acceleration. sad.gif Let me go home to check on the setting tonight.

LOL.. is 6800GT beat 7300GT

btw, that 6800 is 128MB DDR 128bit
*
6800 full version like Ultra and GT version are with 256nits memory interface while the vanila and XT version are with 128bits only.

QUOTE(UnknownH @ Oct 29 2009, 08:21 PM)
like that eh??
i dont know much about nvidia but ati bigger number more power..
correct me if im wrong.
*
We can't define in that way cause 7300GT is the entry level card of Geforce 7 series while Geforce 6800 GT and Ultra series are the most high end model from that series.

meaning 7 series for mid end??
how about 7800GS?this beat 6800GT?
*
7800GS is better than 6800GT in this case. 7 series doesn't meant for mid-range only.

No doubt that ATI cards are bringing more value to consumers. Myself i would prefer to Nvidia card more but end up i grab ATI too as Nvidia does not offer any better or value card after 7800GS/7900GS. Both of these cards are rare and also higher at the price too.

Added on October 30, 2009, 9:31 amNice cooler for sale, grab this if you need ravewar.
