Usually our old school CPU isn't able to perform well in high resolution + high end card due to the old architecture. If decided to get a PCI-E base card, might consider any Geforce 8 series or ATI 4xxx series.

P4 rawks on Windows 7 Starter, at least for my P4 mobile. I promised to give a review sometime ago, so here goes.

specs:
Dell Inspiron 4150, P4M 2.0Ghz, 512MB DDR266, 160GB HDD, Radeon 7500 32MB.

Everything was installed flawlessly, except for the VGA driver. I had to resort to Windows XP driver, though not WDDM compatible, it at least passes the DirectX tests. In WEI, by installing the simple driver it boosts the Desktop Performance for Windows Aero from 1.0 to 1.9, and Aero (non glass) does feel snappier. The network driver and sound driver was also not available, so I used back Windows XP drivers and it works the same too.

Previously this notebook was on Windows Vista (originally Windows XP), so I can verify that the whole user experience in comparison to Windows 7 Starter is much much better and responsive, speed wise feels like using Windows XP. Accessing folders and drives is a tad sluggish in Vista. Disk space usage is also lesser, and the system resources has been reduced overall. Really breathes new life into my old old torrenting lappy.

@edministrator,your labtop is running at the min. requirement of Win7 starter there. sweat.gif I guess your lappy now is only using for testing purpose with torrent there. P4 is aging,it is harder and harder for us to cope with new technology. Guess P4 is going to be replaced totally in 1-2 years time.

How you manage to install the Win XP drivers there? Win 7 will not block them from installing if driver is not signed?

Windows 7 has backwards compatibility in mine
Its basically a Vista version 2, so if the XP drivers works in Vista, high chances it will work in Win 7 but not all

Try changing the PSU and see... Usually the HDD should blink on power up (as it loads its firmware from the service track).. hmm.gif

Maybe can try resitting the hardware, and check the rams too. sometimes might be due to faulty rams.

I think my mobo was problem. When i start my pc, the memory controller hub was so HOT! and my IDE hard disk which is my master not running. I tried reset CMOS but still the same problem. But on my 2nd pc, it work! Currently i placed my IDE into my 775 rig to copy important files smile.gif.
