my personal experience using iphone 3g, i charge it using charger when it shows 20% and it will take about 1 and half hour to 100%. But,i will let it continue charging for the next 30 or 45 minutes for long lasting uses.

QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ Oct 13 2010, 10:06 PM) u guys ask a lot about charging battery... if someone say u need to charge X hours and cannot charge when not full etc...would u really follow? juz charge whenever it's convenient to charge, and stop charging whenever u need to stop. if u hv to go out but ur phone is still charging at 98%, dun wait for it, juz unplug and go. as katnl have mentioned, heat and empty drain is ur worst enemy. Ok, thanx for the answer.

QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ Oct 13 2010, 09:06 PM) u guys ask a lot about charging battery... if someone say u need to charge X hours and cannot charge when not full etc...would u really follow? juz charge whenever it's convenient to charge, and stop charging whenever u need to stop. if u hv to go out but ur phone is still charging at 98%, dun wait for it, juz unplug and go. as katnl have mentioned, heat and empty drain is ur worst enemy. as dvlzplayground notes, there's no need to worry so much about the battery. modern batteries are built to last, and you probably don't even have to think much about them during their lifespan. defective batteries are very uncommon, and it doesn't take much to tell if you have one (discounting 'firmware' problems, of which I never encountered).
a modern battery's lifespan is counted in terms of charge cycles, 1 charge cycle is from 0-100% so to say. for iPhone, not sure how many cycles it has. so if you charge your phone everytime it reaches 90%, you need 10 such charges to complete 1 full cycle. for those who leave their phones on the charger overnight, the trickle effect is hardly noticeable to affect the cycle much depending on phone activity. even if it does, consider it as part of normal battery usage. even if your phone is not on the charger and the battery is running, that's also part of a cycle right?
so leave those worries behind and charge your phones as you please. the only thing you need to be aware of is to avoid keeping your phone at too high temperature. when you are charging, your phone heats up too so do charge in a well ventilated area.
