Hi, nice looking slim tank you have there..mind showing the full photo of it as a whole? It looks smaller than 18 inch x 9 inch x 9 inch. Whats the cost? Thanks

this is kinda my test run first =.= cause i scared of the below problems

- lighting enough? currently 11W, but next to window so during daytime shud have some extra power
- temperature might get high during day. now at night when its cold, its already 29.6C. scared during daytime can get until 32-33C. the puffer fish might not like it sad.gif. anyway to cool it down without spending big? i have some computer fans can i use em =.=
- soil, is it enough? currently 1 inch. do i have to top up with a layer of gravel?
- co2. shud i just go ahead with DIY CO2?

Next would be java moss + driftwood =D
*
- 11W are definetely not enough... tell us what is ur size's tank.. before giv u an answer of how much lighting only sufficient..
- mine also around 30-31 when the DIY cooler fan is turned off.. with the cooler fan.. can lower to around 28..
- i think should be okay with 1 inch , better ask for chuppy or pitchboy~
- co2.. if u had budget... then go for a pressured co2 tank... will be cheaper if calculate in long-term.. if u hav no budget... then prepare for it..

i - coca-cola or whatever brand 1.5L softdrinks bottle.. air tubes... Co2 Atomizer
ii - baking yeast... sugar... soda powder..

normally not cost you more than rm5 only these item..

2KG of soil can fulfill 1 inch your tank ? what is the size of your tank ? list to me with ?FT x ?FT x ?FT.... thanks~ smile.gif

Aiks i forgotten to mention tank size doh.gif
Its 40cm x 25cm x 26cm
2kg of Gex soil (green bag) can get about 1 inch smile.gif

guess i most prob will go DIY first la. cause i no experience at all, dont want to start right away with expensive setup. scared i got no time to maintain it sad.gif. i also most prob will DIY a cooler fan. have a 120mm fan lying around.

just a question, how do you all plant the plants? i used cable tie, tie them in a bunch together with a rock to weigh them down and stuff it into the soil. am i doing it right? can i just leave the cable tie and rock down there?

the fan is a must.. 29.6C is not exactly "LOW" IMHO.. 28C is the limit for most plants/fishes that is commonly found in the scaping zone..
(LOW imho, is 17 Celcius AHHAA - damned electrician reset my ac in my fishroom, everything was down to 17Celcius. crazy! )

Also, about the soil, it depends, usually slope is what we want.. my 2feeter had 1 inch in front and 4 inches inches in the back..get me?

I would go for at least 36W of light.. for high light set-up I mean.. if med light set-ep, add another 11w, should be sufficient

thanks for the advice bro i'll try to diy my fan tomorrow. hope that the fan will bring down the temp. scared in afternoon the heat will bring the temp up significantly. if yes i might need to consider a chiller or change the location of my aquarium. maybe i'll DIY a TEC chiller if really necessary, but im hoping not because it sucks lots of electricity.

as for light, again maybe i'll diy a household lamp onto it =D. cheaper that way right ^^

=D i listened and went out to get some plants. altho the LFS i went to know nuts about 'hornwort' or 'anubias' so i just hentam some plants. they are out of java moss too. i bought a driftwood tho. how should i clean it? just put inside the tank, or rinse it or let it soak?

i had problem keeping them in the soil as they keep floating, so i tied them to a rock to anchor them. am i doing it right? also my temp gauge shows me 29.6C at night sad.gif. i scared in afternoon will be gila hot there.

would a diy air cooler help?

yours is about 6.87 gallon... about how many fishes should be same with me.. around 12 ?! if DIY.. i suggest u take 80mm.. with 12V ac adapter will do... just look around any unused charger or any adapter.. just 9V or 12V.. i use 9V.. and i feel its enough for a 12V fan.. sometime the noise are annoying... and rdy to do top up water jobs... need to top up water almost everyday...

Fishes i plan on 1 puffer, 2-3 ottos and a few shrimps thats all. Puffers takes up 3-5 gals of bioload already. I dont have a 80mm one at the moment but i have a 120mm. Top up should be ok la. I'll find a way to control the fan power. I have an extra switching power supply which i can use. If too powerful i just use 5V instead of 12V.

5V maybe ok... because the voltage too low will be powerless.. no point of blowing.. Just Piece of T4 ofcoz not enough... make it 4xT4 like me... total 32watt.. biggrin.gif.. T4 is around 32CM in light... T5 is around 57CM.. suitable for 2FT tank.. your tank is just 40CM.. so just go for T4 lo.. if T5 will over 17CM...
