Anyone know whether TM pay more for international bandwidth than ISPs in Singapore? If that is true, any reasons?

Why its expensive? Like everyone been saying around here.. its the lack of competition. Plus Malaysia is still waaayyy behind compared to US or Korea. The net awareness among Malaysians is growing, but we are still lacking behind. There are still people in the rural areas that do not know how to use the computer.
The bad service like what is happening right now is partly due to poor planning by our government and Telekom Msia. They have been busy upgrading intranet cables for Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, and many other Corridors. But they fail to upgrade the international cable lines. |

QUOTE(fabianz03 @ Apr 19 2009, 10:43 AM) Okay man.. Yes , it true. In Boleh Land. Cool down. Because one main reason is monopoly. TM monopolyzed the whole BB shares in MY. So no chance for foreign ISP's to come in to Malaysia so their price is high. Imagine. If Malaysia have 2 major ISP. Let's say TMNet and Jaring Co. 1Mbps RM50 Streamyx 1Mbps RM25 Jaring. Sure got less, because they 2 got competition. ** Users will think ** Wah! Jaring 1Mbps RM25! Sub Sub Sub... Then streamyx lose customer, then streamyx lower the price to RM20. Then users think wah streamyx RM20. It goes on and on.... Monopoly is the key. =) Gov rules by 1 party. What it call Bx, but the true pwoer all rules by Uxxx. On the other hand, It remember me other industry as well . Like Example , our car industry. It just because they want to protect the 2 "P" company. We have to pay 200-250% import duties and 150% excise duties for all imported vehicle. Therefore , a Japan Car where sell in japan is about RM 20k. But after bring in Boleh Land , will cost RM 50k-60k. Let said if they lower all the duties, a Japan Car come in sell at RM30-40k . Who else going to purchase the car manufacture by the 2 "P" ? To make this change, we have to vote them down in the next coming 5 years. So go SPR register today. Let us make a Better Land instead of Boleh Land. |

Monopoly is one thing. Chronic underinvestment in telecommunications infrastructure is another. Has no one realised we are still stuck with what Mahathir left us in 2002?
The problem with Malaysia is people want to see things. Like roads. Bridges. Tunnels. A new airport next to KLIA. Not fibre optic cables which are burried underground. |

lol i wouldn't know that unless i work wif TM CEO.
But i imagine that the government is pushing TM to upgrade its local cables so that to attract foreign tech companies to invest and put up offices in Malaysia. Upgrades on international lines is probably under progress..but i could only speculate. |

Agree, heavy broadband users in Malaysia are still minority especially among people with power. The problem with Malaysia is people want to see things. Like roads. Bridges. Tunnels. A new airport next to KLIA. Not fibre optic cables which are burried underground. |
