I am having problems with screamyx too.
But to be fair, u cannot compare a small develop country like Singapore with a bigger developing country like Malaysia.
Its time for government to review its policies on ISP services.

Yes. In Singapore the have an agency under the police force that actually monitor what you do online. Anything illegal, such as trading or putting up illegal websites..the government will track u down.
Much more strict compared to Msia.

Why its expensive? Like everyone been saying around here.. its the lack of competition. Plus Malaysia is still waaayyy behind compared to US or Korea. The net awareness among Malaysians is growing, but we are still lacking behind. There are still people in the rural areas that do not know how to use the computer.
The bad service like what is happening right now is partly due to poor planning by our government and Telekom Msia. They have been busy upgrading intranet cables for Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, and many other Corridors. But they fail to upgrade the international cable lines.

lol i wouldn't know that unless i work wif TM CEO.
But i imagine that the government is pushing TM to upgrade its local cables so that to attract foreign tech companies to invest and put up offices in Malaysia. Upgrades on international lines is probably under progress..but i could only speculate.

QUOTE(haya @ Apr 19 2009, 11:01 AM) Monopoly is one thing. Chronic underinvestment in telecommunications infrastructure is another. Has no one realised we are still stuck with what Mahathir left us in 2002? The problem with Malaysia is people want to see things. Like roads. Bridges. Tunnels. A new airport next to KLIA. Not fibre optic cables which are burried underground. This is what i am trying to say earlier.. Though internet may be a part of everyday life for us younger generations.. a lot of people still do not know (or even want to) go online. Internet is not a priority. Though the internet is an essential part of communication.. We are still a developing country.. If i am the Prime Minister, I would prioritize road works over the internet. Majority ALWAYS wins.

QUOTE(Zi-Tech @ Apr 19 2009, 11:48 AM) yeah our internet still expensive.... even for streamyx combo, the cheapest one is rm 60, do you believe makcik/pakcik in the kampung2 can "paid" this.... even their utilities bill like electricity and water below than rm 20 (that mean you get free if live at selangor) so do you think they want to pay rm 60 for slowest speed of internet????(in their heart say better save this money...heheheh) hope our government talk to tm to revise back the price of internet.... my humble thinking.... not more than that.... Yes this is the issue. Just like any brand new technology, the price will eventually be reduce as demand increases and technology advances. Its just like when the PC just came out, it was very expensive back then..RM4999 for Pentium233Mhz processor. Not everyone uses the PC back then. Initiative to provide quality service on the part of TM is a different story though..
