For RM 88 or S$37, we get 1Mbps plan (advertised rate) in Malaysia. However for S$35, you can get 8Mbps plan from Singnet (http://www.singnet.com.sg/plans_and_services/broadband/snbb.asp?snbb=8Matl).

So what are the reasons broadband is more expensive in Malaysia?

The usual reason given is Malaysia is bigger, so more costs required for cables and other equipments. This may be true in the beginning.

Another reason given is lack of competition. We may have at least 2 nationwide 3G broadband providers, but we have monopoly for wired broadband area.

Please enlighten me :-)

P.S. Try not to complain in this thread, there are many other threads for complaining.

That is not my intention :-)

Don't people want to do a good job if given a chance?

So what is preventing people in ISPs doing a decent job?

I am having problems with screamyx too.

But to be fair, u cannot compare a small develop country like Singapore with a bigger developing country like Malaysia.

Its time for government to review its policies on ISP services.

Agree, it may seems like comparing apple and orange.

How about real 1Mbps plan to US for RM 88? Is this too much?

Yes. In Singapore the have an agency under the police force that actually monitor what you do online. Anything illegal, such as trading or putting up illegal websites..the government will track u down.

Much more strict compared to Msia.

Another reason given is there is insufficient demand for broadband. This does not hold in major cities and towns.

Okay man..
Cool down.

Because one main reason is monopoly.
TM monopolyzed the whole BB shares in MY. So no chance for foreign ISP's to come in to Malaysia so their price is high.

Imagine. If Malaysia have 2 major ISP. Let's say TMNet and Jaring Co.

1Mbps RM50 Streamyx
1Mbps RM25 Jaring.

Sure got less, because they 2 got competition.
** Users will think **

Wah! Jaring 1Mbps RM25! Sub Sub Sub...
Then streamyx lose customer, then streamyx lower the price to RM20.
Then users think wah streamyx RM20.

It goes on and on....
Monopoly is the key. =)

That is just an example of competition between two major ISP in Malaysia.

(If it really happens)
