I'm using a regular micro SD inserted to a SD adapter. It's so cool, having no popping out object like a USB pendrive at the side. I put the SD card in the slot all the time, that include carrying out.

I tried a HC micro SD card of 8Gb, but Win7 took quite a long time to "config" the SD card, which I had to abort it. But it allows me to utilize only 4Gb out of it when I was trying to do it.

I think HD4570 can manage it... 512Mb right? U should try it. I now completed the 1st time with polite male Shepard, now continue to try female Shepard, rude Shepard I mean tongue.gif

reformat it to ntfs should do the trick as fat32 is limited to 4gb nod.gif , mine now full 8gb dedicated to readyboost, n i must say for rm70 bucks it worth the upgrade! loading games are now faster! rclxms.gif

n i learn also its not all about storage space its about speed too.. so the faster the sdhc spec, the better!

Juz curious & wishing to find out...

Even if we're using HC SD card, or high speed pendrive for memory boost, but how is the performance compare to our very genuine DDR2 1000Mhz there?

I mean comparing adding a 4Gb HC SD card, to 4Gb high speed pendrive, to 4Gb DDR2 RAM?

Any facts & sheets?

Its not really to replace the RAM. But even if you have big RAM, you would still need to have pagefile, which reside on the hdd. Its this that being moved to the SD card, dedicated for the pagefile only...
This would give better response as the pagefile doesn't need to compete with other hdd activity... Though it still depends on the SD card speed...

Meaning?

Lemme recap...

icon_rolleyes.gif Memory boost (SD or USB pendrive) not meant to replace RAM... OK!

icon_rolleyes.gif Pagefile isn't with RAM, but it's with HDD... OK!

icon_rolleyes.gif With memory boost (SD or USB pendrive), the pagefile is being replaced by them, instead of using one with HDD... OK!

cool2.gif Conclusion: Pagefile not perform by RAM... Then what use is the RAM for then? I tot RAM is for this purpose??

doh.gif Curious: Getting a better RAM alone won't help on the pagefile, but a better HDD or better memory boost does?

Virtual Memory is made of RAM + pagefile (HDD)
Pagefile is not RAM, its just a portion of hdd being used as RAM and they will swap content from time to time with RAM.
The one that making the lag is when swapping the content from pagefile to RAM, due to the slow hdd + hdd always being used for other activity, in this case, memory boost dedicated a thumbdrive/SD card to do that job, hence they should give better performance than a busy hdd in handling the swapping of the pagefile because the thumbdrive/SD card just need to take care one job(pagefile).

More ram is better, but still, there are some application insist on using pagefile even if you have a lot of ram left.

Wow this seems something very knowledgeable to me. rclxms.gif
Do u mind elaborating more on what needs the pagefile, what needs the RAM, what need the VRAM for us?

Like, computer graphics, compiling video/music, installing a program, running on photoshop, or etc u think is applicable?

I need to know more b4 I know how to apply in real. icon_question.gif

As explained before, Virtual Memory is RAM + Pagefile..
Which on the attachment, its the max size for PF Usage or you can see on the Commit Charge 2598M/3412M
That's coming from 3GB RAM + 512MB pagefile = 3412MB Virtual Memory (3GB is roughly around 29xxMB)
Attached Image

As for what the need of those, basically its RAM, just that one is slower and one is much faster.
And how it will be applicable, that's being handled by the OS or by the programmer, we the user, pretty much can't do anything with it.

Thanks for showing me again.

Hmm... So 3Gb + 512Mb u get the total of the commit charges.

What about those we set aside in HDD in HDD properties? Windows put another 1Gb approx there reserved for this purpose too right?
Why it din appear in ur Window?
Oops... the 512Mb is from ur HDD allocation?

Another thing is, I can't get this info with Win7 version... Right click taskbar, goto properties can't get this info even I'm in MEMORY tab now.

The one being set aside in HDD is what being called as pagefile...
In this case, I reduced it to 512MB only...

As for Windows 7, not really familiar with it, even on the Task Manager, Performance tab, not showing about PF Usage?
or you check from dxdiag, add the number on Pagefile
VMemory = Used + Available
