The other option is to install using an external DVD Rom. Or use another SL DVD.

QUOTE(Eidilfitrix @ Oct 9 2011, 01:00 PM) Hey guys, need an opinion here. To boost up performance in terms of speed of mbp, is it better to switch to SSD or upgrade its ram to 8GB? SSD r pretty good on accessing ur data n booting up. Upgrade rams are for application which are resource hunger like ur video editing. So if ok you can go for SSD and 8gb of ram just like I do. Since ram ate dirt cheap upgrading is just a no brain.Basically i'm doing office work, surfing, video editing, musics, all personal, not gaming. |

QUOTE(eternity4av @ Dec 9 2011, 11:11 AM) I'm currently on ACPP plan for 3 years, just bought my Macbook Pro 2011 13 i5 not long ago, I'm keen to do dual HDD setup by swapping the CD-ROM, with SSD. So basically, if anything went wrong, my warranty is void right? What about if swap back the CD-ROM before I send back to Apple? Do the warranty still void? You can replace back the original DVD rom back to its original n replace back all original part before send in for warranty.Added on December 20, 2011, 1:59 pm QUOTE(saabmorales @ Dec 20 2011, 12:08 PM) hi mfitri77, Replacing iMac ram is a nobrainer actually the memory bay door are just below ur iMac.I'm new here and am planning to get my imac's 4gb RAM upgraded to 8gb. where can I get the corsair 120rm which is compatible to my imac? and also, im not sure how to put it in, so do you recommend anywhere who can do it for me? QUOTE(prodeo_th @ Nov 23 2011, 03:28 AM) Hi guys! Actually any SSD will do but since ur on a new 2011 mbp I suggest to go for the Sata 6Gb instate the old Sata 3Gb since ur Mac can easily boost to 5xx+ transfer rate. I have a MacBook pro 13" i5 2.3ghz early 2011 model..I'm planning to upgrade to ssd 120gb..any recommendation for a specific brand?how bout the expected price?is't easy to self assemble? The different between the apple SSD vs Conventional SSD is the trimming enable. But you actually can enable it with a simple hack. Just google around. By the way I'm already upgrade to SSD 256Gb and it's faaaaaast. Added on December 20, 2011, 3:07 pm QUOTE(mfitri77 @ Dec 20 2011, 02:39 PM) I never used iMacs before, since most of my power desktops are windows based. As far as I know, they use the same memory as notebook sized rams, and yes, the memory bay doors are just below your iMac, check the apple website for specific details on what ram to buy according to your iMac version. As always I will recommend to replace ur Mac ram to apple certified ram. But most just ignore as reason value ram work perfectly. Normally get my rams from either Viewnet, or C-Zone. As its ur money and it's ur work that you put on risk as application crash or more worst kernel panic. This post has been edited by feins: Dec 20 2011, 03:07 PM |

QUOTE(hwachong @ Dec 23 2011, 12:05 AM) im using macbook unibody late 2008. im thinking of upgrading ssd 120gb. any suggestion? intel? crucial? samsung? owc? Whatever brand also no problem. Only think is that you need to enable trim manually. That's all. I'm using 3rd party SSD on my mbp unibody 2008. |

QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ Dec 24 2011, 09:14 PM) maybe the mushkin pair is faulty anyway. as in, even if installed on a windows laptop, will get same problem Mostly it won't replace as normal ram are not recommended for Mac. As muskin does sell apple certified ram for use in Mac but the price is much expensive compare to its PC ram.but again, that's just 2 customers out of a lot more who are using mushkin on their macs without any problem at all. just keep in mind, they're not compatible 100% of the time, but close to. im not sure if can claim warranty or not if normal RAMs cannot work on macs |

QUOTE(b48753 @ Apr 17 2012, 09:45 AM) Anyone over here ever did RAID on your Mac? and which RAID setting is good for performance, as I'm so much in video editing and 3D rendering. For non critical data you can setup raid 0 for speed and performance. For critical data you better go for raid 5 for descent performance and speed. |

QUOTE(BRY7 @ Apr 17 2012, 04:36 PM) Yes you can utilize apple software raid but.Unless you are modding ur MBP by utilizing the DVD drive with a HDD otherwise you can't Raid on it. Second choice is that you to get an external Enclosure with Raid capability and run it using either Firewire 800 or Thunderbold. This post has been edited by feins: Apr 17 2012, 05:03 PM |
