8GB for RM189? sound like a great update for my current 8gb Mac Mini!
*
If rm189 for 2x4gb then it's more than enof to get a Kingston Kta ram.
If rm189 for 1x8gb then you might check if it will work on ur Mac as its a very good price as I don't think it's apple certified and just normal value ram.

Wish you luck.

For Mac pro 2.1 it's might be a bit tough. But you might success on getting a quatro or firegl for it. As there r not much of a choice.
On the Mac pro 4.1 then you can either go for ati5870, nvidia quatro or ati firegl from apple.

Hi, has anyone serviced their macbooks at maccity @ 1U? My harddisk is failing, and I'm unsure if it's worth sending it in for diagnostics (rm60 + rm100 for opening up the MBP) and find out if there's a chance to repair the disk. Or just go elsewhere to replace my hard disk where I'll get at least 3 years warranty, as opposed to apple's 1 year warranty.

I've also done a bit of research, and am eyeing the Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive. smile.gif

Are there any good service/repair centers where I can bring my own disk for replacement?
*
Just buy a new hdd and replace it.
I did send one for recovery before but not mac city lar And the quotation come back for recover my 500gb sea gate 7200rpm cost me near 7k "7000" so I just pay for the diagnostic fees and ask them to disposed the faulty hdd.

Charges are steep. I went there a couple of weeks ago to install 8GB X 2 ram and they asked for RM100.
So found the small screwdriver needed for the MBP 15" and installed myself.

If your HDD is backed up, perhaps you can save some money from NOT giving to maccity and get the HDD you want and DIY.
Many helpful guides on the net.
Only thing is to make sure you get the small screwdriver needed to take the back panel off. Keep track of where the long and short screws go. I placed my MBP on a cloth on a table and took out the screws and placed them around on the cloth corresponding to the location of the holes.

It may be a good idea to browse forums to check for your chosen HDD compatibility with the Mac OS you are currently using.

Cheers.

For me it's still better to go back on 5400rpm hdd. As 7200rpm hdd are hot and drain more power which render less hour per usage.
The seagate momentom XT are more power hunger than a 7200rpm hdd and hot. Performance a bit better than normal 7200rpm hdd. Especially for normal load apps. But not on random load application.

Just my 2cent.

What is the best 7200rpm drive to get for Macbook 3.1 (2007 White)?

From what I saw online, WD Scorpio Black 500GB seems good.
Got many positive reviews about it, also got negative remarks (OS stuttering/lag which can never be fix)
But Seagate seems worse...

Anyone got personal experience upgrading MB3.1 2007 White HDD? Advice needed... notworthy.gif

So far. Before this I use seagate momentous 500gb before so far till now even after I sold it to my fren n still using without any complain. Its the MacBook white 2007.

Seems like quite alot of mixed reviews, headache already... thanks for sharing notworthy.gif

May I ask,
Did you just pull out the old drive, plug in the new seagate drive and reinstall OS X from DVD / Bootable USB?
Or did you copy a disk image of your old drive (image backup/restore)?
Or, plug out old drive, install OSX to the new HDD thru a USB 2.5'' HDD adapted? Then only plug in the new HDD into the bay?
Any do/don't advice?

I've did all of the above before except install on an external hdd case.
The best is just plug the new hdd and remove the 160gb stock. Restore from time machine fastest method.

Current:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
320GB HDD

Plan:
Mixed Drive Setup
Main Bay >>>> SSD Sata 3
Optical Bay >>>> move my current 320GB here
16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Is there any problem/issue with my plan?
I plan to do a clean install of OS in SSD, but remain my data files in HDD. After i install OS, how can i delete OS in HDD without delete the data files in it?

I've been told by Machines service centre, that my MBP 13 2011 was sluggish due to my previous 8GB DDR3 Kingston RAM were not that suitable. I was wondering how far is true? Because in fact, it were very sluggish whenever I reboot the machine.

Unless u use normal. KVA ram. Use KTA ram won't be an issue as its apple certified ram.
