QUOTE(firdausbhari @ Oct 26 2012, 09:07 AM) i bought mushkin memory stick 8GBx2. one piece cost me RM170. according to mactracker, early 2011 actual RAM is 16GB. I see. Have you run memory stress test on it for at least 24 hours? I have always wanted to upgrade but laid back by the incompatiblity issues that some are facing.

I am testing out a 13" inch 2012 macbook with the core i5-2.5Ghz. Bought it for resale, but figured might as well check out what happens when you do put 16GB worth of memory in the laptop.
1. The 16GB modules were Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz x 2 pieces. Yes, tried to look for the Mushkin parts, but none were available for sale. Even worse, one shop tried to scam me by selling 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz parts. I don't usually go for kingston, but because it is Apple compatibility guarantee (meaning if it doesn't work I can just go and raise holy hell with Kingston's supplier), I took the chance.
2. The second upgrade was for a SSD. Now, I could just order the Corsair Force parts - but it was holiday yesterday, and I could shop around for other brands. Ended up with the Vertex 4. Risky? Yes - But in the spirit of testing things out..
3. Copying the whole Mountain Lion OS X from the original HDD to the SSD requires 1. A USB to SATA converter 2. Mountain Lion USB Install
4. Connect the USB Sata Converter after you have put in the SSD in the Macbook.
5. Boot using the USB disk, and go to disk utility. Prep the SSD drive by erase and putting in a Mac OS Journaled files system.
6. After that, using disk utility, restore from the original HDD partition to the SSD.
After its finished, reboot.
Booting to the login screen feels instantaneous now..

You will get a headache if you start comparing SSD.
Almost every mac related forum on the net have their own views and opinions.
For example, Anandtech recommends Samsung 830. Most forum advices avoiding OCZ while recommending Crucial m4, which came from the problematic C300. Some lumps the 240GB +- RM630 SSD as third class/tier manufacturer with slower performance, such as Force 3, Chronos and V200+.
At the end of the day, buy the size, speed and brand that matches your budget. Buy it from people you trust for RMA issues. I have personally used everything from Vertex 3 to 4, m4, Corsair etc etc and have yet to find showstopper bugs. Maybe I'm just lucky, but if you accept that 5% of manufactured products will have some defect, goes a long way to make your decision.

I'm going to upgrade my RAM to 16GB and is now targetting Kingston KTA-MB1333/8G.
Seeing how mfitri77 got it working with the 1600MHz version I'm wondering whether the 1333 will be a smooth sailing too?
One thing I realize is that RAM price is really low right now. It's only been a couple of months since I last checked and this is really a good news.
