i've been searching on this forum but it seems like Sharp is not favored by our ppl here...
i wonder why because i'm planning on buying Sharp LCD for my xbox360...
and recently sharp has come out a new model "LC37A66M" for 37" LCD and it has become my target...any comment from all sifu here?

note: After a considerable amount of time spent in surveying...i have narrow my target to either SONY or SHARP.if sharp is not good then i will go for sony, any recomended model for sony? my budget is rm5000 and at least 37"...

Purely for gaming only? no Movie or astro?

A shop guy told me that if ps3 then need to get full hd. for the high resoulution.

Not sure for xbox360 though.

Currently waiting for my Panasonic Plasma TH-42PV80H to come.

Will connect it to a pc for watching downloaded movie and drama.

When i bought mine, they are clearing stock there.

i saw few sharp display over there and i can see like the screen got "ombak" lo. Dunno is because they made a camp and put all clear stock display there.

For my case i bring a laptop and conncet to the plasma and see movie with real player.

imho, u hv quite a bit for budget...not sure if you've considered plasma, but i'd definitely recommends Plasma over LCD...but if gaming if your thing, and u've gone thru the whole plasma vs lcd thingy, by all mean, go for it...

coming back to your question, Sharp is the one to go..yes, suprisingly, most forumer here dun really talk about Sharp..but Aquos gets my vote...looking at the specs for 42A66, it has got everything in it u'd likely need.

one model Sony is comparable to Sharp 42A66m is their Z series, 40 or 46 inch...which will set u back something like RM8499 & RM10,999...or an older model, S series...dunno how much that is...

still, u shud experience them both with ur own eyes...then make a wise decision...

The new model 37A66 is wat i am going after too.

For me Sony is not the brand to go for as their parts and service to me is so so.

Yesterday i've been to the shop and viewed the model myself, i'm satisfied with the picture quality especially when displaying the HD movie using the HDMI cable.

dashisiong, i'm getting mine sharp 37A66 for RM 2650, plus another 3 years warranty that'll be RM 2860.

I've gave up the aim on 42A66 because the price gap is so much, RM2650 and RM 3.8K++...

By the way, any recommendation on which brand of HDMI cable that i should get? or anything that i should take into account when choosing HDMI cable? (sorry..i didn't do much research on this...haha)

Sony is over priced and they use Sharp panels.

Sharp is still pricey and they have banding issues.

Samsung panels are good (the high end ones), but I really hate their menu system (limited features some more).

LG always comes up with stylish and "innovative" models to cover up their lack of quality.

Toshiba lost the HD war.... enough said.

Panasonic should just stick to Plasma.

Philips is confused what they want to make.... so many different confusing models.

All other brands will give up... just like Pioneer did.



For me... I have 2 Sharp Aquos LCD TVs....

The price for A66 37" u get RM 2650 is damn low. (how long is the warranty?)
IF buy at RM 2860 means total 3 years warranty? or total 5 years?

I know sharp is giving first yr all risks warranty...including stolen.

My price i am getting in JB is 2 yrs warranty RM 2980, of course 1 yr is all risk.

Not every SONY use SHARP panels.. Got it all wrong.. Take note at SONY's model code and u'll know whether it is or isnt..
No offence , but for me .. SHARP's really nice , but not better than Sony..
I've tried PS 1 , 2 , & 3 on most branded & each brand have their weaknesses. I am most disappointed with SHARP , especially the after sales service. Tried going around the back to look at what SHARP provides the dealer if possible (the media source) , then u'll know what i mean. The most irony thing is i'd asked ppl around , & has yet get myself one of those the SHARP display counter is using. Can't save mine SHARP so far . Bought one previously cuz tempted by the display, but regretted!
& SHARP only have 'made in japan' panel for certain models , my frens , not all , most maybe..

My conclusion is , know ur source first , then only ur LCD .

I went to many shops before , till that one & only shop made the demo for me so patiently , & honesly , fairly of course , without stereotyping any brands .

They showed me what superb source they were actually using at first on many brand , then change to those normal & 'everyone-can-afford' source (cheap DVD player ,wiring & stuff). They even need to know the position that i'll be placing my screen , trust tat. Need to choose between PLASMA/LCD.

Easier for me to make my choice after the demo , when i know what kinda source i can afford & will be using.No point getting a FHD when I m using a $2.50 cable because no one guided me before , not evry1's an expert rite? Think of getting a 52' . Will sure go back to that shop again.

this pretty much summarized everything, especially like the way u describe philips, except a few minor things

not all sony uses sharp panel. and to be exact, sony LCD TV is using panels that is manufactured JOINTLY with other manufacturer. its misleading when people keep on mentioning sony USES panels manufactured by other. (50/50 with samsung previously, Sharp coming up next after sony abandoned the S-LCD project)

I bought mine 37"A66m at Balakong HLK. the price is RM2650 and extra 3 years warranty, that make up to 5 years of warranty, total RM 2860.
And yes, the first year all risk warranty is given by sharp...standard..
