i think u mean u have a flight on 27th of JUNE?

customisation takes longer bcuz it's a build to order thing... they only build it (in the factory in china) after u placed an order. the non-custom units are those that come out of a normal warehouse, all are built earlier and when u order one, they simply ship it.

Are we getting this kind of topic every time someone buy a CTO Mac online?
*
maybe u can update the mac purchase guide section G. also need to mention that these upgrades can only be done at the online store, that even the resellers will use the online store

I'm considering getting MBP 13' but I don't know to go for base configuration or i7.

The cheapest deal I received was, i5 for 3150 and i7 for 3850

Usage is mixed, sometimes gaming, *mostly 720p movies watching* (All my movies are in HD), songs, occasional photo & video editing.
Thanks
*
The base config is fine. Rm700 difference can almost get AppleCare. Or, since u mentioned photo editing, an external monitor

QUOTE(ivan92 @ Jul 11 2011, 04:10 PM)
hello folks
i am thinking to get an imac, as my desktop(PC) getting older(problems start to appear D: ) and Lion looks quite good and user friendly for me

my usage would be: web surfing, documents processing, entertainment(music, video, youtube, 720p/above movies), gaming(TF2), and download movies/torrents

i think i will get it after Lion is available, what i mean is pre-installed on the system
so which version suits me? other recommendations are welcomed

thank you so much
*
Nothing intensive there so the base iMac shud suit u. 21" or 27" screen is totally up to ur preferences smile.gif

thank you for your comment biggrin.gif
27" looks nice drool.gif , but the price is  sweat.gif
so you prefer to purchase online or get it from reseller? hmm.gif
the education price could save some money, but reseller sometimes have freebies, promotions or purchase with purchase which is quite attractive
*
for me, online lah. i still can get edu discount, also so i know im the 1st one to touch it haha. the freebies rarely attracts me anyway

Guys, I wanted to ask...I'm about to buy a MBP 15" and will mostly use it for school purposes(For uni)....just wanna ask..do I need to install anti-virus(like kaspersky, norton etc) as well?? Cause might have a lot pendrives transfer from my friends for assignment???Cause this is the 1st time I'll be using Mac OS and I wonder is it easily attacked by virus compare to the Window laptop im using now
*
well i dont have antivirus on my mac. u can GET virus on ur mac but u wont be AFFECTED by it. cuz the malware can only attack in a windows environment.

so say u copy an infected file to ur mac, nothing will happen. but if u send that file to a windows user, that person will get infected. u wont. if u plug in an infected thumbdrive and paste ur clean files into the thumbdrive, u still wont get infected (u're not transferring the virus to ur mac). but the thumbdrive is still infected and can infect other windows pc it connects to

so the only point of having antivirus is to protect others, so to say. but personally i dont bother tongue.gif

so far only some trojans (from pirated software) and the macdefender thing (worm? not sure). they all still explicitly need the user to install something, it wont install itself like other malware can. so just be cautious on what do u install on ur mac.

fyi macdefender disguises itself as in anti-virus app. and the people who dont know better, downloaded and installed it, and get infected themselves.

there's no stopping from some random hacker to create a mac virus, but we're pretty much safe for now

Hey all, just wondering if a second-hand MB is worth buying. My friend is selling it for rm2200+

Model: http://support.apple.com/kb/sp500

It's the 2.4Ghz one with 4GB ram.

Also, would I be able to upgrade it to Lion?
*
im using a 15" mbp with the same 2.4ghz c2d processor with 4gb ram. i'd say rm2200 is a good value, it's fast enough for most tasks. can upgrade to lion no problem smile.gif plus this is the only aluminium macbook so quite rare hehe

Guys I wanna ask, is it important/essential for me to buy iLife and iWorks for my MBP ????
*
nope. i dont use ilife at all. as for iwork, i only use Pages to draw diagrams/flowcharts (word is a b**** to do that) but Keynote is simply so much better than powerpoint. i think u can just buy Keynote from the mac app store now. but u sure dont NEED them.

dont worry about the mac mini breaking easily ;P

even the rm1.9k mac mini should be enough for you. add the apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse that's just rm2357 (or you can use ur old keyboard and mouse). it comes down to what monitor do you want to use it with.

if u want to use ur old monitor, no need to spend more smile.gif but if you want to buy a monitor for >rm1k, better get an iMac instead

I actually like the macbook very much. but I already have a laptop.. also, the macbook pro is kinda pricy considering of its specs, is almost same as the mac mini. I'm now undecided between the mac mini or imac. I will be only using for web browsing, doing my reports...etc.. I'm only worried that the mac mini will be too laggy or slow.
*
unless u're doing heavy simulation, video editing, 3d modelling or gaming... the mac mini's i5 processor is more than enough. if after u buy still feel too slow, can easily bump the RAM up to 4gb

my 2008 MBP spec is wayyy lower than the current mac mini, i dont feel lag at all

mm? my older MBP with 256mb 9400M (not even using the discrete 9600M GT) also can play HD movies (dl from itunes) without problem. really need 1gb VRAM to play bluray rips??

cmj1982 from my experience, 5400rpm vs 7200rpm isn't noticeable at all

Why don't apple grant edu discount at resellers...  doh.gif
*
i guess ur only choice is to ask an apple reseller to order one for u. they still go through the same process of buying it online, but u pay them cash. but yeah as others have mentioned, no edu discount and it'll be quite a long wait

other than that..well either u just buy the available models, or get someone (friend or relative) to order it online for you using their credit card. then u pay them cash

better yet, learn to trust online payments smile.gif u'll need to do it sooner or later

imac applecare is just rm600. since u're buying a high spec one, you really should get acpp

if nothing goes wrong after 3 years, then yeah u've wasted rm600. if something major goes wrong after 1 year, and cost 1k or even 3k to repair, u'll regret it tongue.gif

my 2006 MBP died on me after 2.5 years, repair cost at least rm3k. it wouldn't have been a problem if i had ACPP but i didnt +_+ thats y for my current 2008 MBP i bought acpp together with it haha. so far juz use to claim new battery and speaker (didnt cover the ACPP cost but nevermind lah)

Can you sponsor me ur credit card please? hehehe. I pay u in full tongue.gif

EDIT : Sorri for being a world class noob and spoilt brat, but is debit card useable for buying online?
*
i dun have credit card...still student here haha. yeah debit card works, i've used it to buy stuff from the online store before

QUOTE(denzel88 @ Aug 18 2011, 11:22 PM)
I have a question here.

I noticed that when photos displayed in Macbook, the color of the photos are very vibrant and sharp.

May I know if this event will only work when we use Apple monitor or display hardwares?
Will the vibrant and sharpness still appear on other branded monitors when Mac mini or Macbook is connected to it? eg Samsung LED monitor.
*
for me it's more to the calibration. of course hardware plays a part also lah.

u compare a mac running windows in bootcamp, to another PC running windows. looks about the same i guess, because not calibrated. last time i copied the display calibration file (or whatever it's called) of OSX and use it in windows...BOOM... so huge improvement haha
