@XterNalz:
Thank you very much~!
Initially I thought of enrolling for Software Engineering but looking at the subjects, and comparing them with the other courses, I feel Computer Science suits me better. Are/Were you also a CompSci student at MMU? If so could you describe the teaching environment there? Also care to comment on the racial diversity of MMU Cyberjaya students?

Thank you biggrin.gif

Hi, I will assist in answering the racial diversity question. In MMU, we have a healthy balance of students from all races which include students from other countries too. So, if you are interested to learn more about people from various part of the world, I am sure MMU will be a good place to study in.

can i knw the degree of accouting is from where 1?
and if study 3 year hw much the fee, cause i got diploma for accouting from other college ady~

Hi, I am in my 2nd year of accounting now.
The degree is under MMU and with this degree, you can proceed for the professional papers with exemptions (such as ACCA, you are only required to take the remaining 5 papers). Basically the fee will varies depending on the amount of subject that was exempted, I would say its safe to subtract RM5000-7000 off the total course fees.

Actually when I went to MMU recently, I notice that there is a high amount of chinese speaking chinese people now. lol. My friend who is in MMU right now is telling me the same thing. And my friend who is an MMU Alumni told me it used to be more malays. Which I find a drastic change.

I attended Star Edu Fair today at PISA, Penang. And I expected to be awed by MMUs booth. But my expectations were shattered immediately. Not only was the booth tiny, unimpressive and boring. The informational fliers/brochures were dull and extremely unappealing. In addition to that when I took the time to drop by and ask a few questions, the booth handlers were having their own conversation. When they finally stopped talking, I asked them a few details, during which I was interrupted and had to wait for them to exchange a few more words before getting my answers.

Such a disappointment. If I had not heard such good things about MMU before I would have totally blacklisted MMU as potential candidate institutes for me to further my studies. The friend I brought along, to no surprise submitted an application for UCTI instead.

That aside, I'm rather thrilled to hear from [besaid] that MMU has a healthy balance of all races. However, [Iliveunderwater] contradicted [besaid]s statement, and now I seek further consult.

Also, I would like to add, that MMU does not accept credit transfers exceeding 30 credits. This adds another reason for me, a soon to be diploma gradute, to favour other institutes of higher learning. As even for highly recognized institutes like University of Nottingham(Malaysia), and UCTI/APIIT allows entry into the 2nd year of a Bachelors degree with a diploma.

Sigh~

TL;DR version: I'm rather disappointed with MMU, it seem to not live up to its reputation.

I dont find how the racial distribution affect my studies. I have friends from all walks of life which includes international students from Indonesia and Sudan (yes,i do have my own close circle of friends too). Its really up to you to choose your friends there, really.

Try this. Join clubs and activities with an open mind, a good way to increase your network of friends (and from the other races too).

Well, that was from my point of view, which is the accounting degree that I am currently enrolled in. Sadly I do not have the official figure to show you. Maybe gavinfernando from the Melaka's Student Representative Council can help out with that. wink.gif

MMU is traditionally very stingy with their marketing expenses. sweat.gif Maybe it will be better for you to visit the either campuses for a better understanding. Ask around students who have been in MMU for a year or 2 for more info too.

Dates:
20 March 2010, Saturday (Melaka campus)
21 March 2010, Sunday (Cyberjaya campus)

Time: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

*gavinfernando, can you upload this on the 1st post?

To be honest with you, if you are after recognition overseas, it is better to go for professional qualification which i think TARC is offering now (ACCA). I am not really sure how their system differs with Sunway though cause it is kinda confusing.

In short, professional certs such as ACCA, CPAA, ICAEW, MICPA, CIMA are highly sought after compared to the average degrees and diplomas for the accounting field.

For MMU, they offer a degree that allows exemptions for 9 papers in ACCA and something similar for other professional bodies. In terms of lecturer quality, there are a few bad apples surely, but the key subjects such as auditing and taxation are taught by good lecturers. Just to remind you that all lecturers come with their own style of teaching and therefore it is vital to understand their method and make the full use out of it.

Regarding the feasibility of our graduates in MMU, i can tell you this. One of the BIG 4 came to assess and interview a batch of selected 3rd year accounting students and almost all got selected by the firm.

CGPA is cumulative grade point average (combination of all trimesters) whereas GPA is the grade point average for that particular trimester. Your friend did better than you for the 2nd trimester

May i know which campus you are currently in? Melaka or Cyberjaya?
Do you mind to give more info on both of the campus there?
I plan to go for the Melaka campus for accountancy but still having some doubt.
Thanks in advance ^^

Is it so difficult to go through http://www.mmu.edu.my?
Additionally, different courses have different entry requirements.
