Had a chance to speak to the guy in charge of iPhone deployment at Maxis. Good news is that visual voice mail will be implemented within a month or so. Maxis is also working hard to provide localized content and providing support to developers. How much and how - I did not inquire.

I found it remarkable that this was a pure Maxis event with Apple nowhere in sight. My take on this is that Apple regards Maxis as ONE cellular data provider. I do not think that they will be the ONLY one. I was unable to get much information from the Maxis guy with regards to the deal arranged with Apple other than the negotiations took 6 months. I'm assuming that the other telcos are in negotiations too.

From the way Maxis announcing the official iPhone and does not mentioning it's an exclusive deal with Apple...I am guessing it's not an exclusive deal, else Maxis will definitely announce it.

Hopefully can see other telcos working with Apple to promote a healthy competition!

Registration counters were very slow. Had to wait like 2.5hrs just to get to my turn. The counter personnel were slow in their work and couldn't answer some of the questions I posed about the package. First thing that came into my head was 'service like govt' tongue.gif

So anyway, i found that at 8.30pm yesterday, they only sold 300 units so far. Either the response wasn't that great (although there were a LOT of ppl there) or they're just slow in processing. They had a lot of supervisors standing behind the counter personnel for whatever reason. I guess the supervisors would've done better as counter personnel.

Just get a call from my friend..he just grab his iphone at KLCC.
He has key-in the contact, but when the call comes, it appear as +60XXXXX.
Looks like got to wait for 3.0 or jailbreak it to solve the problem

Just found out from a friend who was invited to the launch. Apparently, Maxis is committed to 250,000 units for a year, so they need to sell at least 20,000 Iphones a month. Hope this is true and we shall be seeing more aggressive promotion soon.

I believe on Maxis all calls and sms are in the format of +601x xxx xxxx. For me on Digi, calls are in 01x xxx xxxx, sms is in +601x xxx xxxx. So i need to store both format for a single contact.

Not sure the carrier update for Maxis iPhone users fixes this issue or not?

But it does not negate or confirms the notion that Malaysia may be the dumping ground for unsold Singaporean sets. How does that tell you, with regard to the fact that dumping material being sold at price higher than where they are not wanted?
