Hey i just want to ask any senior engineering students ...
Is chemistry and physcis for engineering units similar to alevels syllabus or do we learn new things because the outline of the course look so similar. I rather learn something new than repeat the same thing
do we need to buy any textbooks for the course ?
Hope to see you guys and girls this monday for orentation.Im joining mechanical engineering btw.
Hi, I'm a year 2 engineering student this coming semester.
Nice to meet you.

Well, for chemistry, I would say 75% of the syllabus are new, you will learn things with concepts grasped in A-level.
Chemistry is a nice unit. You get to mingle with people from the Faculty of Science.
It suits those who like experiments and writing report.
For Physics, most of the things are new.
You will get to do fun projects like egg race, where you use simple material (e.g. cardboard, wood) to build a mini car and "shooting" your egg over a distance without breaking your egg.
You learn a lot from these activities and the lecturer, Associate Prof Dr Lan Boon Leong is an amazing lecturer.
This unit used to be a recommended unit and it has been replaced with Engineering Profession.
It is hard to get HD for Engineering Profession.
For Physics, you will need to have the textbook because Dr. Lan will give you exercises from there.
For Chemistry, you will need it when you write your report and of course, to gain extra knowledge.
I have some textbooks and notes to sell if you are interested.
Please have a look at them from the link below.
Anyway, welcome to Monash Engineering!!
If you still have any question, feel free to ask.
Cheers!
