It's actually kinda easy.
Get your certs certified by the head of LAN department in your previous college and get a copy of the syllabus too.
Don't worry too much about it.
You can submit it anytime before you graduate.
I submit it during the second semester.

Yo dude, I used to live on the 6th floor.
Still have the keys to the unit thumbup.gif
Wow, you can access the internet the day you move in?
I had to wait for a few days! Lucky you.

Hey i just want to ask any senior engineering students ...

Is chemistry and physcis for engineering units similar to alevels syllabus or do we learn new things because the outline of the course look so similar. I rather learn something new than repeat the same thing

do we need to buy any textbooks for the course ?

Hope to see you guys and girls this monday for orentation.Im joining mechanical engineering btw.
*
Hi, I'm a year 2 engineering student this coming semester.
Nice to meet you. biggrin.gif

Well, for chemistry, I would say 75% of the syllabus are new, you will learn things with concepts grasped in A-level.
Chemistry is a nice unit. You get to mingle with people from the Faculty of Science.
It suits those who like experiments and writing report.

For Physics, most of the things are new.
You will get to do fun projects like egg race, where you use simple material (e.g. cardboard, wood) to build a mini car and "shooting" your egg over a distance without breaking your egg.
You learn a lot from these activities and the lecturer, Associate Prof Dr Lan Boon Leong is an amazing lecturer.
This unit used to be a recommended unit and it has been replaced with Engineering Profession.
It is hard to get HD for Engineering Profession.

For Physics, you will need to have the textbook because Dr. Lan will give you exercises from there.
For Chemistry, you will need it when you write your report and of course, to gain extra knowledge.
I have some textbooks and notes to sell if you are interested.
Please have a look at them from the link below.

Anyway, welcome to Monash Engineering!!
If you still have any question, feel free to ask.
Cheers! rclxm9.gif

Hey thanks for such a detailed and quick reply Aar0nY. Yup can you reserve for me your chem notes LOLs im interested.

Oh man i love both that units but can choose only one, sad but im going with chemistry i just love the subject.

Is it possible to take physics in summer classes or something?
*
No, there's no summer classes for most engineering units.
( except one unit in year 4 )
Well, you can go to the engineering building and ask the admin person whether you could drop some other units, like Engineering Profession.
I have some friends who replaced ENG1030 Electrical System with CHM1011 Chemistry.

Which electives do you intend to take?
Ok, I'll reserve it for you. I sold the textbooks for CHM1011 ad, sorry.
Cheers.

oh, I see.
You intend to major in Mechanical Engineering?
Both physics and chemistry are good choices.

Yes, I still have the notes.
I sold the textbook for CHM1011 Chemistry.

Oh? But I thought there's only one place in Sun U Apartment where they put like 4 or 5 washing machines? And the water dispenser is on the ground floor of my block.

3 working days... Oh man... So that means they will give you a password or something after that?
*
I think he's talking about Sun-U Residence.
If you are staying in Sun-U Apartment (without air-con), there's only a few washing machines on the ground floor.

Yeah, it will probably take 3 working days or more.
There's no wireless network, you need to bring a cable to access the internet.
If you know anyone staying there, you can ask them for their username and password. biggrin.gif

process system analysis, chemistry and engineering profession. Among these 3 units, which is the easiest? tongue.gif
*
It depends on the pre-u that you take.
Engineering Profession is hard to score.
You will need to write essays and the class used to be extremely small for last year (approx. 30 students from 2 sems)

For Chemistry, the paper for semester 1 is set in Clayton, it is usually harder.
For PSA, it depends on who is marking your case studies.
My friends scored 90+ for PSA in sem 1, but those taking it in sem 2 weren't so fortunate.

Btw, welcome to Monash Engineering!!
Cheers!

hey guys, All the best tomorrow!
I hope you guys will enjoy the orientation week as much as I did last year.
Try to mingle around and make more friends, don't just stick with people you know!
If you are studying Engineering, well, you might see me during the Buddy Buddee event. (Assuming it's still on)
Cheers =D

The buddy you guys were assigned to should have tell you guys how to open an account.
Is the buddy buddee event for engineering students on week 1 still on?
Who is the 1st year coordinator for Engineering?
Cheers!
Enjoy your orientation week.
Though engineering students would be bored to death with nothing to do. LOL

Added on February 21, 2011, 8:53 pmDoes anyone know where the gym is? Iinm it's in the common room or lounge or something right? (Forgot what they call it)

The gym is just beside the cafeteria.
It's just a small gym.
If you can afford it, why not try celebrity fitness at Sunway Pyramid.

so what do you think of monash? smile.gif
*
sweat.gif okaayy..
For me, Monash University Sunway Campus is a good university in Malaysia.
If I'm not mistaken, you are planning to study engineering, am I right?
Monash Sunway is good when it comes to academic, but we are not strong in research fields.
MOST of the lecturers are good and they do try their best to help us if we face difficulties in our studies.
The buildings are new and impressive.

But at the end of the day, it depends on what you want.

maybe we can win this semester if you guys go. LOL

Ooo. Yeap Chemical Engineering to be specific. The lecturers are dedicated la?

How about societies? Active? smile.gif

Actually what u meant in research fields? not quite sure sad.gif but academic i know la. results right?
*
Yea, MOST of the lecturer are good.
There are a few part time lecturers who are terrible.
But they are not in Monash anymore.

I guess the societies are still ok.
I did not join any of them. LOL
Usually Engineering students are busy with their studies.

The lecturers in sunway don't carry out many research.
So, they can usually be found in their office.
According to a few lecturers, students in sunway campus tend t perform better in examinations.
Btw, students from both clayton and sunway campuses sit for the same paper.

ooo. thanks. actually, with or without researches, what differences they make?

Oh yea, here comes my first question, is it necessary to do transfer with the Aus campus?  icon_question.gif
*
this is your 1st question? rclxub.gif LOL
Ermm, I don't think it matters.

No, you do not have to transfer to the Clayton campus.
You can transfer to Australia after one year.
but you can't transfer there during the last year.

You can opt to exchange to the Clayton campus.
but you need to have good results as there are limited places.

Are you thinking of studying in Monash?
Have you done your pre-u?

nope. just finished spm. most probably taking foundation first then onli degree if im going to monash right?
wow. i can actually exchange for a semester? cool. actually these transfers/exchange can be decided later on right? dont reli have to decide during the first year of ur degree?

but still, many said going overseas is an advantage as u will have different exposure. true?
*
Yeah, I recommend studying A-level.
You will have an easier life in monash if you do A-level.
