Hey guys, anyone here studies chemical or mechanical engineering at Monash Uni?  How is the lecturers , facilities etc there? Is it good? From what i have heard , Monash is not that famous for engineering courses , is that so?
*
Hello there, I'm a electrical and computer system engineering undergraduate at Monash Sunway.
In my opinion, the lecturers here are alright.
Most of them are experienced and it depends on their teaching style.
Some lecturers want you to be independent and do lots of self study.
Some would be kinder and would choose a few tutorial questions to discuss during the tutorial session.
Facilities wise, Monash are well equipped but some of the labs have limited hardware (eg. speedy-33).
I don't really know what Monash is famous for but the engineering courses here are not easy.
We follow the same syllabus, sit for the same exam paper and use the same tutorial questions as our counterparts in Clayton, Australia.
For some units, especially year 2 onwards, you need to put in a lot of effort.

Cheers.

I received my result twice when I was having dinner on a Sunday night.
That's not really a good time to receive any news, GOOD OR BAD. LOL
Anyway, all the best to everyone laugh.gif

Monash allows us to review the paper.
I reviewed my paper last year and realized that the lecturer keyed in the wrong marks.

You can go to the admin office of your department and fill in a form.
They will set up a meeting for you and your lecturer and send you an e-mail informing you the time and date of the meeting.
Cheers.

How much do you have to pay for  a review?
*
it's free! They will just ask you to look thru the paper.
Our best bet is that the lecturer made a mistake in adding up the marks or key in the wrong data.
It's hard to add marks as we are not given the marking scheme.

haha. but what's the probability of them keying the wrong marks.... I think should be pretty low right? 10% probability?  biggrin.gif
*
I think it's even lower than 10%, maybe 1%?
The paper was marked by a part-time lecturer and that was his final semester in Monash.
Well, there's no harm looking through the paper.

No, not during examination.
Mind telling me which paper is it?
Did anything happen during exam for that paper?

It was maths. (eng 1091). No nothing happened during the paper. It went smoothly. :S, does this have anything to do with the fee, i got an email a few days ago to give the second sem fee before 29th july.
*
No, it has nothing to do with the fees.
I think you should go to the management office and inform them of this.
Did you write down all of your particulars?

Yes I'm sure I did,strange...i know a few cases where this WH was given. But that was then for the whole faculty. This is weird :S
*
Yes, I heard of that kind of cases too.
Just give the management office a call or visit them on monday.
I'm sure everything will get sorted out soon.

For Chem Eng, you have to take Chemistry and Process Systems Analysis. For other disciplines, I'm not too sure myself heh...

Eng seniors, for E&CS, what do we have to take for Level 1?
*
For ECSE, well, you can take any electives.
It doesn't really matter cause the most important unit in year one is ENG1030 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
I would recommend ENG1050 Engineering Materials.
If you want to gain more friends, you can take CHM1011 Chemistry which is offered by the science faculty.
Hope this helps, Cheers.

any upcoming engineering students? I need suggestions on which elective 2 take

There's a list of recommended electives that you can take according to the branch of engineering that you are interested.
Click on the link provided above.

what about physics? Not that important?
*
Physics used to be a highly recommended unit, but starting from 2011, it has been replaced by engineering profession.
Physics is quite challenging. You have 4 to 5 mini projects which requires you to build simple prototypes with your groupmates.
I learned a lot thru the group projects though.

Well, the electives pretty much depend on which branch of engineering you intend to take in year 2.
For chemical, go for PSA and Chemistry. For mechanical, go for material and another elective.
Note that there are 2 additional requirement by the School of Engineering for Chemical and Mechanical Engineering.

Well, this may sound really cheap, but which elective can we score the highest? My results for the 1st sem is, well,  rclxub.gif, and since I'm planning to take E&CS anyway, i might as well aim for the easiest-to-score elective then, to hopefully bring my scores up.
*
I would suggest ENG1050 Materials Engineering. If you have taken that, go for ENG1010 PSA.
CHM1011 involves a lot of reports and memorizing during exam period.
ENG1081 Physics for engineering is a nice unit, but the projects can be a little bit scary.

do employers look at our GPA or WAM? my GPA is so low sad.gif
*
yes, most employers look at your CGPA because IPTA uses that as a benchmark.
However, I think the employers will look at whether you are a first class graduate too.
no worries, WAM is equally as important.
