Hey guys,
I'm currently on a standard Daihatsu engine. 6v 660 n/a carburetor.
I want to convert to a 12v EFi 660 n/a.

Any of you have done it before?
What parts do i need to start this project?
Can i just change the head?

Jason

I'm planning on keeping my kancil for a long long time.
Its been with me for 13-14 years already since my family got it. I Just did up the interior and body the past few months..just a little bit more left.

Engine is still fine, just have problems now and then due to wear and tear from usage. Its a 660 Daihatsu engine.

My intention is to reduce FC and prolong "life" for my kancil add in a little power will do. After all these years FC slowly increased..loss of power too..
Was thinking of EFi cause it has lower FC & quiet too.

What about a 850cc Kelisa ED-DE?

I know that ppl DIY their OCT for less than RM20 or so.
try searching it online.

Want to try but not sure where the hoses are and where they go?

thanks for the info.
will most prob make one rather than buying. That'll be later.

cause now car engine giving more prob..power loss is tremendous. even 4ton lorry can overtake me on slopes..seriously considering a engine transplant. But a non turbo engine..if cant find a ED-DE (kelisa 850) was thinking of a ED-10 (kancil 850) manual of course.

guys, any recommendations/tips/reviews for Na engines?

Thanks Deto for your extensive explanation.
Sounds like alot of work to transplant the ED-DE then. rclxub.gif

Deto and LYN Kancil gang!
I have started restoring my old Kancil since Nov last year.
The last item for me to do is the engine. I want to complete this project of mine before end of this year. icon_question.gif
So hope you guys don't mind me bugging & asking too much questions ya.

Need all your opinion on this.

What i want:
- Improve FC.
(current 12.5cents/Km, +/-)
- Easy to maintain.
(currently every month sure have something to fix..old car ma..)
- Spare parts easily available.
- Just enough power to climb Genting cukup la..heheh no need power power..kepish!
(Currently with 2 ppl can only reach Gotong Jaya, engine struggling gear 3 or 2.. sad.gif )

What i have:
- Daihatsu 660 6v na (M)
- RM3.5k to transplant. (if able to cut down cost better la haha..)

Options:
- Top overhaul.
- Overhaul.
- L5 660 4piston na (M)
- any more ideas??

Greatly appreciate all your contributions.
Thanks!
Jason

Advantages/Disadvantages of Overhaul:
- eventho all parts are new... but still stuck with 660cc and 2 valve perpiston.. engine still struggling
- modifying ori engine can be carryout through out the overhaul, ori part > performance part, example
electronic distributor.. forget dy the advantages but afaik, dont have to change the contact point regularly..also a lighter rev.

Advantages/Disadvantages of L5 660 N/A
- cooler look and cooler aircond using dashboard > L5..
- 4piston=lesser vibration
- getting new experience with new engine..
- is u dont get good h/c a nightmare will haunt u down dude..
.. eventho sparepart are available. u're losing on installation fees...
... sparepart are bit expensive example..
.. u dont know previous history of ur halfcut..
as other.. like gearbox,radiator.. can use back L2/kancil part

if done overhaul.. engine shud have no problem and restore back original power..
if done conversion.. need to worry the sparepart and money constraint.. and maybe some other problem might occur too..

Thanks Deto once again. You've been a great help. smile.gif
Still have to really think this through.

L500 na 4piston
-looks tempting. more power. less vibe. better long rage drive. great engine.
But the scary thing is that we don't know the h.c history. Plus the parts are mostly 2nd hand from chop shop..compared to L2/s/Kancil where we can get from spare parts shop.
Could have high possibility of major problems.

L500 na 3 piston
I hear this engine parts are easier to get. Compared to other L5.
Might consider this too. Tehy say engine parts similar to kenari/kelisa betul ke?
L500s(EF-GL) - 659cc 12v dohc 52ps/7.2Krpm 5.8kg-m/4Krpm NA

Overhauling/modding
This would be playing safe.
Like you said it restores the power..but still 2 valve per piston struggle (if i do then I'll have to live with this engine till it dies.)
Wont be considering to change to 12v EFi..too much $$ there might as well transplant.
I already upgraded to electronic distributor and L5 dash + blower. Nice. brows.gif

Will update again when i have decided.

Sorry guys, cant join in for TT. Really busy with work.
You guys student eh?

Guys!
My FC have been terrible the past 3 weeks.
Normally its RM40 > 22.22li for 300 to 310km
For the past weeks its barely 280km and this week was 260km.

I'm suspecting something amiss. But not sure what is it.
My Driving pattern the same.
Spark Plug + Air filter few months old.
Engine oil ok.

What could be wrong?

but RM40 > 310km to 260km is a massive increase in FC.
I'm missing about 40 - 50km...adei..

Update status on my transplant engine project - Shelved for now.. sad.gif
Money have to siphon to fund for a new house...

Looks like now i'm only left with 2 choices with the budget allocated..
overhaul the ol' EF-CL 660
or put in a kancil 850 (what is the code for this engine?)

btw..is the 850 better than the 660?
in terms of FC

This one ah? It can be in various form. Is a conversion of a normal 850cc engine 6 Valve to 12 Valve only I guess. I think this one is the fuel injection one. So maybe is the air intake manifold change to L2 intake manifold and ECUed and some using pure 12 valve Carburator. My twin brother is doing on this project half way I guess. He just wont let me know about it.
*
Hmn..u sure its just a 6v to 12v conversion? The blog owner says its from Japan..but 12v 850 EFi sound really nice..smile.gif
wha..your bro so secretive sure some big project! Nice of you to have a bro that shares the same passion.

Btw update on car:
My signal lights wont work. Don't know why.
Checked fuse. working
Hazard lights are working.
Workshop say the steering console problem. ask me go look for one at chop shop. $$$ L5 rack with console? drool.gif

Last night jack up my car.
Found out Oil seeping. The whole bottom part of engine has traces of oil and grime.. even to the gear box..adei..
Decided to send the Kancil for general overhaul tomorrow..
To change seals, filters, clutch, oil, belts, clean cylinders, head, tb and all the works..
Looks like its gonna be a major cleanup.
More $$$$

Can't wait for it to be done...

budakhops -
i am restoring 15 years kancil. and gonna be completed soon enough.
spent almost 4k in total.
btw my car was in a terrible condition that's why cost so much.

The gun is the mechanism is found on all 4 doors that controls the central locking on your car doors.

Got car back.
just changed the steering console. RM40..
didnt overhaul yet. mechanic says don't do first.

gonna just change engine oil, filters and belts first.

JasonB, where's ur location and is the work done on ur Kancil good?  I have a 14 year-old Kancil recently brought back to life (haven't started it for a year) and I plan on restoring it.  Engine still in good condition (88,000KM mileage).  I'm looking at a major engine service, air-cond service, seats wrapping, change 4 tyres (1 of them dates back to 2000) and hub caps...  anybody has any idea how much this would cost?  RM500 enough?

Hi,
I'm in Cheras, KL.

So far what i've done up is considered extensive to some.
When i started my project, i chose to do the body works first rather than the engine, because then the engine was working fine..

As for you run the engine and see if al is ok and do just a normal engine service first.
-Change Engine oil, filters petrol, air and oil, belts timing, compressor/alternator, battery.
-Check for oil & exhaust leaks as well.
-Check your spark plugs / distributor / brake pads & fluid

As for tires i changed from a 12 in steel rims to 13in daihatsu sport rims. its lighter. better pickup and handling.
Up to you if you have sufficient budget.
-Check absorber see if they are leaking, if yes change.

Tips: Do change the essentials first rather than the aesthetics.

Do update us smile.gif
Cheers

Added on May 29, 2009, 3:06 pmbtw guys,

and you said its not advisable to go that fast as our cars is light..wat u mean is our cars are not safe enough rite? isn't it easier to control or break a kancil rather than having a bus at the same speed?

*
QUOTE(tommi88 @ Jun 3 2009, 12:54 PM)
what im trying to say is that our car chasis is not meant withstand high speeds...besides...our kancil chasis is slightly weaker than ordinary mira from japan...
*
Regardless if yours is a mira or even kancil or even a bus/lorry, high speed crashes mostly end up in a ugly sight.
So drive safely. smile.gif
