wow.... so its being a pharmacist is like memorizing everything? and how does pharmacy differ from chemistry? and as i know pharmacist is more into chemistry, what about biology (other than medicine blush.gif )
*
yea..basically memorising...and thinking as well la of course..

chemistry u study everything lor....organic..inorganic..etc..

for pharm we only touch organic chemistry...and other more subjects where chemistry don't touch like pharmacology(drug interaction) and pharmacokinetics..

physiology should be the correct term here.

biology covers every living things la...humans..plants..ecosystem...etc...

smile.gif

a social-type, bubly, talkative and active girl, can be serious but when not necessary..still can be a pharmacist lor...

business dun suit u la..from what i've seen u type so far...

anyway..who am i to judge right? smile.gif

may i know does IMU Pharmacy scholarships is only eligible for STPM and A level students?
*
i am sorry to say that you must be very very poor and very very good in your studies to qualify for the scholarship.

if u can ask this question online means you can afford some money for internet instead of using the money for food shows that you r not that poor. laugh.gif

okla that was too extreme. call IMU and check la.

QUOTE(JoannaKwan @ Jun 14 2010, 03:17 AM)
thanks for the reply !!
because my first love was actually biology, but knowing that being doc is hard..... i have to uhm, forgo it..  blush.gif
its ok to judge me haha.... but why business don't suit me? i thought business you interact everyday and make a lot of friend and know new people everyday, isn't it? esp if i'm under human resource... aiks, i'm kinda influenced by the ideology of "do what makes you happy, and you'll be stress-free"
*
haha.

are u sure u like biology?

as what i've said, biology has a wide range. from humans to plants to insects to reptiles to flowers to ecosystems to environment. u sure u like all of those?because doctor only study about humans.

because u don't even know what business is in the first place! from your replies i can see that you intepret the business world from what u see on the tv. sorry for being blunt. blush.gif and you don't even know which one you want to specialise in. business is a veryyyyyyy broad area. from administration to marketing to sales to PR to management. all require different skills, although they are closely related. you may suitable for marketing but not management?

yea..you interact everyday..but mostly through phone calls..and if only you are doing marketing then you meet new people, but not everyday also ma!unless u work in a uni, then yeah u meet new students every day. friends in business world? u can be counted lucky if they don stab u in the back. especially in the corporate sector. if work in small small companies then everybody friend friend lor. but i dun see u working there because u sound quite ambitious.

comparing pharmacy to business, i'd say a pharmacist faces less stress la.at least u dun need deal with politics.

Too bad. Or you can try KUOK FOUNDATION or High Achiever and Merit Award.

u have to get outrageous grades to qualify for that.

but not impossible though.

Yeah, way to high. shakehead.gif
But for those who are really good, they can try. No harm trying. Hehe!
Are you from IMU pharm?
*
but for that amount of hard work...the rewards that they give are quite insignificant lo..except for the first semester discount... sweat.gif

if didn't remember wrongly need get 90% to qualify...

haha nope..rejected their offer..

Can i know why u dun wan to choose IMU? Just curious.  tongue.gif
*
ermmmm...firstly i find it quite overcrowded..for the first two years there will be about 120 students together..medicine is worse..

if you have been there before the campus not really big..for me i prefer a smaller class la...and more space to walk around..feels more like a uni ma.. laugh.gif

the student to lecturer ratio is not quite healthy IMO..

the course itself is also very expensive..my friends at IMU have confirmed with me that their price increases every 2 years?so for that large amount of money i'd rather go for an internationally known (note: known and recognized are two totally different terms) university in Malaysia.

lastly...IMU is just too damn far from my place... sweat.gif

and i have heard more bad comments on IMU compared to good ones from my friends studying there...so................ sweat.gif

no comment about the quality of graduates and lecturers though.. smile.gif

wow... you did do a lot of detailed searching. It's true that IMU pharm is 120+ students every batch. Fees is increasing every year, so more later more expensive. You're in UCSI pharmacy?
*
my future lea.sure need do research la. unlike some blind people out there who chooses uni based on their 'popularity'.

not saying IMU not good but just my type of uni la. laugh.gif

erm..they can take in 150 if they wanted to...

yea..didn't have the chance to see their pharm facilities though...wondering did they buy some massive drug making machines for students to try...but i can't deny that their dentistry facilities is top class. laugh.gif

but i want to reiterate.. i am NOT saying IMU SUCKS! notworthy.gif

nope..going monash uni...

previously from ucsi though..got a bit dissapointed and frustrated with them... laugh.gif

ugly truth, i love almost every chapter in biology in the beginning.... but when is comes to plants, amphibian, insect or fish.... i'm turned off  sweat.gif

thx for the advice... hehehe
_____________________________

anyway, that's what i heard from one of my friend la.... doing science course like pharmacy locally isn't so good... its like basically "pointless"... i'm not sure what she's trying to prove.... is it true? i'm aiming for masterskill or mahsa.... browsed through segi website, seems like they offer buts its only master =/
*
what does your friend mean by pointless?

if he/she said studying pharmacy won't make u a multi-millionaire then its true. unless u open u open ur own factory(which produces money-making products la of course), or develop a drug to cure AIDS then yes.

aiyo...segi's MPharm is the equivalent of Bpharm..

u didn't really do much research on pharmacy course did you? rclxub.gif

masterskill and mahsa are still quite new...dun even have first batch graduates..correct me if i am wrong...

studying pharmacy is expensive.... even for a loan, it might takes a great long time to clear it..... i wished to be in IMU or taylors too, but they're far from my capabilities, that explains my weird choices :sweating:

but i know pharmacist make big bucks and pharmacist is the least i'm interested on.... anyway, pharmacist is so far on my top-list... there's others and there's plenty of research i'm about to do =)

thx
*
u can opt for cheaper choices ma..

UCSI..MSU...cyberjaya..although jerk won't recommend u all these 3 la.. laugh.gif ..but if you want the course badly why not? dun need go for overseas uni la... shocking.gif or if u really wanna go overseas maybe u can opt for monash and work ur ass off...because the top students of each semester can go to Australia for one semester as a part of their exchange programme but u will be paying malaysian fees!

and who on earth told u pharmacist make big bucks? (speaking for malaysian context)

during ur pupilage..ur pay around 3k..(for fresh grad okla consider high)..

then ur 3 years compulsory service..the most maybe 5k? 6k?

then what? if u decide to stick with the government the highest you can go is only 15k...of course there work load and stress load is small la..

if u decide to open your shop...u need a huge modal before u can do that...rental..buying medicines(u no medic sell what?)..air cond..electric..all these will eat into your income at the end of the day...however this will change if pharmacist gets dispensing rights..IF..

so what's next? i can only see u making money if u go into sales and marketing or manage to create a cancer killing drug.

u can generate a stable income but being a millionaire before 35 will seem far fetched.

if u wan to do pharmacy from my point of view is most importantly your interest and passion towards serving people. if its all about making money i suggest you look for another course. smile.gif

@jerk
from what i've heard IMU's licence for twinning kena gantung before right?

hehe.... aren't many pharmacist a millionaire? 8k~10k consider high for me edi (i'm not greedy, i'm a girl afterall smile.gif )

opening a shop would be good, better with a partner but again, i'm not a very greedy girl =)

i see my siblings they took business courses and heavily worked even he's just a fresh grad, 2.5k.... maybe because its IBM

aiks.... i'm starting to sound like a drama-queen here :sweating:
*
doh.gif
name me one pharmacist who's a millionaire.

and i mean below 35. okla. too high. below 50! in malaysia.

yes.

if compare fresh grad pay..of course pharmacist earn more.

but 10 years down the road, you will see who's laughing.

IBM some more. if work MNC pay can double up easily if you are good.

but the good thing about pharmacist is its recession proof..no matter when u will still have a job. smile.gif

hi there..... i still remember your last post for me =)
upon browsing here : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/714279
i felt that pharmacist do make big bucks.... wel, since the workload is light, what do you expect? hehe
and this is my biggest question, during pupillage do they just throw you randomly around malaysia or u can choose ur desirable state/city
just to let me finally let go.... hehe
otherwise i'm seeking into HRM or finance =x
gosh, i'm such a bimbo  laugh.gif
*
errmm..u r the one expecting big bucks not me.. tongue.gif

workload light a.....that really depends lo..

those pharmacist in uk/aus very very busy one..many patients will be coming in n out to get their medications..

if work in malaysia pharmacist then yeah..most of the time just sit there wait customer come..then can chit chat a bit.. laugh.gif

it will be another story altogether if u decided to work in the corporate ladder or industrial based..maybe this might interest u more?haha..many top people in guardian are pharmacist..eg.their directors..etc...then here u can do ur 'socialising' and 'meet new people everyday'...

erm..u will be given a list to fill to state where u wanna go..but getting those places is another question altogether again... blush.gif

nola u r still ok..at least better than my cousin sister who don't have a clue on what to study and she's already after stpm.. rclxub.gif

haha....
scared to do pharmacy because maybe of the pay not good enuff =x (in a far prospect.... if 35~40 still stuck with 10k then its quite a matter =x)
but in the same time i'm scared to do business because of the workload

i heard from my bro in IBM that his dept is having "earthquake".... almost whole team resigned due to workload and only whole team only 2 people (my bro and a female team-leader).... his teamleader at first wanted to resign but once heard from the company,
1)her pay rises from 3k to 5k within a night, but she's working 24hours (sleep in dunno where, floor?)
2)she is not allowed to resign, which she want to resign now very much
3)her workload currently now has doubled, since the dept is having "earthquake"
while my bro still stuck with his 2.5k (fresh grad) and working 12hrs+

haizzz...... is that a life of a businessman? i don't think i can handle it la....
wish i'm pretty and talented.... can be artist =p
*
erm..10k is if you stick with government for the next 2-30 years la..

like what i said..if after gov service u go for industrial pharmacy or work at corporate pharmaceutical companies ur pay may be much higher..

but of course..every cent you earn is perpendicular to the work load and stress levels and responsibilities..your choice...working environment at MNC and local companies are totally different as well..

no..its a life of an employee..businessman is another story altogether..=D

being an artist is not so glamorous either..how many new artist have u met can tahan in the industry for more than 5 years..even our malaysian idol also no news...the daniel lee need work at 8tv to host show some more..

gosh this thread sounds more like 'a career guidance' than a 'pharmacy thread' . no complaints though. =P

p/s: maybe u can post ur pic then we can judge u pretty or not.HAHAHA. =X

yea, i do need a lot of career guidance.....
pic? eeyer, dun need la... haha

next time if i reli became a pharmacist i sure rmb u..... hehehe
see more aspect first la.... even studying pharmacy might be a challenge.... in my POV of science courses, the hardest to study is doctor>dentist>pharmacy
browsed thru alot of college and take a look of the subjects, had no idea whether its hard or easy.... is the study-skills like SPM or hell-style one hmm.gif
*
cause nobody as blur as u. jkjk.=P

maybe u can pm me if u want more details..later kena warn by mod for being off topic..

hahaha...no need la...remember treat me can d..dun need remember who i am..=P

errmmm...not necessarily..it is harder because u cannot fail! try getting first class honours and high distinctions for food science and biotech..not easy also la...=/

u can google those subjects and have a look ma..hell-style? hmm.gif
