I read that the BBC world news channel (512) switched from broadcasting in a letterbox format which they have been doing for years to widescreen in January. However, now whevever I watch BBC it is displayed in 4:3 and the left and right edges have been chopped off! You can't read the titles etc they put on the screen! I tried changing my decoder output to 16:9 but nothing changes. Oh, and I do have a widescreen TV

Is it possible to get this channel (or indeed any channel on astro) in widescreen? I HATE stretching the image, watching a 4:3 image in the middle of the screen or zooming etc, I just want widescreen!!!

Secondly,Astro's standard aspect ratio is 4:3,nothing you can do about it.Sorry.

astro sucks in clarity we malaysians need HD broadcast already.

to have HD broadcast at home, at least we must have 6Mbps link.

average streamyx user only with 1Mbps. the highest TM package only 2Mbps

Infra is not ready so no HD broadcast at home

4Mbps, only in selected areas.

buy big satellite dish, subscribe to sky HD using UK address , point the dish to correct angle & azimuth (look from the internet), ,, walaaaa,,, now u have HD broadcast to your home in Malaysia,,

I do have a satelite dish brought at Korea........at my home...better program than Astro...

Ok, thanks guys :sad: I heard the HD decoder 'Astro plus' is coming out this year. Does that mean some HD channels are in the works?
I want to stay optimistic

isnt using other than astro dish is illegal here.

abyone knows whr the Astro going to upgrad?.....with HD?

I heard it's OK if you're in east Malaysia, don't know what kind of law is it.

but the Korea dish has one problem........many middle east programes...and many China boring programes...the plp here brought the dish just to watch TVBSG, Xing Kong, and Chinese MTV and Channel V...the first gen satelite dish can watch more programes but been banned by Sarawak Gov......

it's not OK actually. u need a permit.it's OK if nobody report it or they are too lazy to check it.
but the truth is, there are lot's of ppl is using the dish in malaysia.
well, u know malaysia.. it's the law. the law that protects their own wealth.. if not, who want's to subscribe astro..or some channel same with astro that can be free, dont have to subscribe from astro anymore..

Its not the matter of when, its more of the matter "how".

Astro will need to make so many deals with their current channels, just to get HBO HD will cost them millions.
There many others like MTV, Discover Channel, National Geography, ESPN, Starports, etc. etc.

Then they will need to upgrade their own channels as well.

Then lastly, they will have to charge people sky high monthly payments just to recover their losses. How much will they charge, I don't know. But I am ready to say its more than RM500 atleast, a month. Majority won't pay for that.
