Aiks.. read your comment too late... Just got back from Tabur East this time with 26 other ppl from Cari.com.my

Tabur East is harder than Tabur West but the view is not as good though... Can compare the pics between the 2 links... Big difference...

Good idea about target shooting. I've done target shooting as well although .22 pistol is not as much fun as 9mm and bullets aren't cheap. Unfortunately you'll need a club membership to go for larger caliber bullets or rifles/shotguns.

Selangor Shooting Club near the old Subang Airport for outdoor .22 pistol and City Square Shooting Gallery for indoor 9mm handguns. Both accept walk ins.

Oh. Yup Datuk was extremely challenging. That time we started climbing at 3+pm. Halfway up, due the rain clouds, it became really dark and we started to panic. No torchlight. If sky dark 100% GG spend the night on the mountain. We rushed so much it only took us 1hour 30 minutes to climb up... Felt like I was gonna get a heart attack though... the view was amazing though... Can see the sun setting on the Straits of Malacca... Complete review with some great shots below.

Well I gotta enjoy myself while I still can. The clock is ticking... In July/August I'll probably get my posting and then god knows if I'll be able to run around doing such things. Must live life to the fullest, especially since this is my last ever school holiday. It's the working life after this...

@ Keong : Very nice photos you have there. Another thing I'll try to pick up during my break will be some photography books. XD Though with only my Lumix LX3, results probably wont be as stunning as yours...

This is a tricky question. To be honest, it all depends on your comfort zone. Some people I have met can't go without their favorite pillow and will even go to extra length to bring that along. Some people I have seen can manage with just a tarp over their head.

If I may suggest:

A minimum kit (you MUST have with you at all times, even on a short day hike)
A lighter (waterproofed) with some strips of inner tyre rubber (tube) to help start a fire
A Fox40 whistle (used to attract attention)
A tarp or flysheet ( for shelter)
A knife (preferably NOT a foldable knife)
Some food bars (chocolate is fine)
Some strings or rope
Medications (if you require ay)
Basic first aid
Headtorch (make sure batteries are good)
A small billy (for boiling water)
A compass (you must know how to use one)

For an over nite
Choose either a tent (with a flysheet) or a hammock
Your MINIMUM kit above
A change of clothes for night sleep
Your hygiene kit (soap, toothbrush etc)
Extra batteries for your head torch
Your cooking kit and food
Extra garbage bags to keep clothes dry and also to take out rubbish

The above list I would say is your minimum. Other things you can add in.

Most importantly is that you need to know what you are doing. Having a first aid kit and not knowing how to use it is close to suicide.
Go with friends who have experience and never underestimate what the jungle is capable of.
Notify someone of your plans (where, when, who) for the trip so that they know where to look for you in case of emergencies.
