Before Chilling got waterfall. At Kg. Pertak entrance to Bukit Kutu. Less people there.
*
A lot of people there but there are recent incidents where campers car got break into and not encourage people to park near the first bridge. Some blame the orang asli but I am not certain about that.

There are a few waterfalls there. I did explore until the 5 or 6 river crossing (normally you cross 3 before keeping left to Kutu) before but not knowing what is that waterfall name about.

There are popular falls which required you to passby orang asli camp site which they charged RM10 per pax if I am not mistaken before going a few cascade waterfall before reaching a fork. Turn right to Medang waterfall and head straight to Makau waterfall.

There is also an old route to Gunung Rajah but long time never been used.

What else could you share smile.gif

Oh yeah, forget to tell you never camp near the orang asli area where there is a small island near towards the bridge. Understand that place could get flood if water rises and even scarier - a crocodile is there XD

There are still lots of mountain that I have yet to explore.

This weekend I am free and if you want to try out hiking in Broga Hill do let me know the soonest.

You could bring your friends along if you want since it is an easy hill.

Broga is Mosquito heaven during raining season.. also magnet to crowds..

Every hill or mountain also got insects bite. Just see whether lucky or not only.

Yeah, it is a crowded hill but it is the best place to train new comers who are into hiking. Unless I lead to Ampang Hill smile.gif

Share with me your itinerary route. Which is your first entry point? Sembalun or Senaru?

How many days of hike? Will you spend the second night near the lake or crater?

After hike got proceed to the waterfall?

Lots of question you can asked me about mountains especially those I had been before biggrin.gif

From there I could advice you what you need to do.

Regardless which route you used - the final to climb to the summit - JUST BE PREPARE! It will be one of your toughest hike I ensure you.

3 Days. Day 1 starting from sembalun, camp by sembalun crater. Day 2 summit hike. lake. camp by senaru crater. Day 3 descend to senaru village.
so is this the easier option?

you memang pro. any other nice mountain you would recommend?
*
3 Days? Your leg will start to get ache during your descend from Senaru crater. Average walking step will be around 20-30k steps per day.

Day 1 - Start from Sembalun. Pretty easy walking on flat savannah terrain. Do not need to wear your wind breaker/ warm wear first as it is well exposes like Broga. Along the way do BEWARE OF COW DUNG. Plenty of them along the path and start to get lesser when you will make your stop at CP 2 (if not mistaken) for lunch near the bridge. Try not to eat near the edge as monkeys will try to snatch your food or belongings if not being careful. Wild monkeys are you will not get back the items. Things will go slighly difficult when ascend from CP 3. About 45-55 degree up for about 1.5 - 2.5 hours before reaching the campsite where you going to stay for that night.

Day 2 - You will wake up around 2-3 AM (very similar to Kinabalu) and start hiking to Rinjani peak. The last 1 km to the peak are all sandy and my best advice is to get a pair of trekking poll which could be useful for your end as every three steps you make you will fall a step backward. Once you reach the stone area then you are pretty ok and can enjoy the Rinjani summit. Do not spend too long up there as you will be using the same way to descend all the way to your campsite. Unpack and head down to a slippery small cliff which leads to the savannah before reaching the lake side about 1-2 hours from the Sembalun crater.

Your itinerary make things worst for you as you mention you will be camping at Senaru Crater on Day 2. If you are not prepare, things get pretty worst here. You could question your group leader on why did they want to camp at Senaru Crater instead of the lake. Was it because just for the sunrise? From lake to the crater might took up easily another 2-3 hours with rocky terrain all the way up up. I did my research earlier for my trip and I discard camping at Senaru crater and settle down near the lake. Nearby the lake there is a waterfall and a hot spring as we could enjoy a good rest before pushing the limit on the final day.

Day 3 - According to your plan which is the night in Senaru Crater, from there you will descend all the way downhill until you reach the hut area where more likely you will meet group starting climbing from Senaru gate instead. Your guide will more likely cook your lunch here and push down to the summit all the way until you reach the Senaru gate. Do not be too happy when you reach the Senaru gate as you will need to trek out another 0.5 -1 hour to the main road.

You could ask me more questions about Rinjani and I will assist if I know how to answer them.

Any other mountains which I would recommend? Depends what you are looking at. Oversea or local?

If Indonesia, most people will hike Ijen and Bromo first although I felt Ijen was not up to my expectation. Everyone got tricked by the blue lake which doesn't interest me much. Others might consider Kerinchi, Agong, Batur, Semeru and Merapi.

Local got a lot of nice mountains too like Stong, Yellow, Bubu, Tok Nenek, Tebu, and many more.

No doubt about that, I start from Broga too, but after 3 times I got sick about this hill.. Wanted to go Tok Wan but was Shoo-ed off by herds of mosquitoes..
*
Tok Wan is hell crazy full with mosquito especially the first half of the terrain before heading down to rock steps and ascend up again where the mud area is. Could be a little slippery if raining season.

Those beginners who went to Broga and continue towards Tok Wan, they really never expect the unexpected.

Not too bad I could still remember all the terrains smile.gif Syok sendiri! LOL.

For Broga Hill, I hike about 4-5 times but I used that hill to train to carry heavy weight-load up to 15-20 kg.

I think the run is under Leo Club Run at DPC, Kepong.

Next week I am not available already since I heading to the remote jungle again to camp.

Haha..

Unlucky me, I'll try dragging a friend or two to those hills you've suggested.
Perhaps some day I'll have the honor to join ur hikes  biggrin.gif

There are almost 150+ mountains in Malaysia which I have yet to scale and most are pretty unknown to me sad.gif.

Slowly explore, still taking my sweet time.

Broga Hill is super easy to be honest, but if you want to hike easier type - we can head to the one nearby to Subang - Serdang Hill (30 minutes hike) or Puchong Hill (15 minutes hike) but both got not much of the view compare to Broga at Semenyih.

Dato - 1 hour to summit, but the drive is 1.5 hours
I kinda like this hike, it's challenging, it's interesting (steep), it has view.
you can  bath at the waterfall after everything is done
*
For the challenge I rather hike Angsi using the Ulu Bendul route instead of the Bukit Putus route if you are referring to the mountains in N9.

Mountains like Gunung Kecil Hantu also not much people hike due to the terrain. You also can try Gunung Besar Hantu and end the hike to shower in Kijang Falls.

I'd be happy to join since I'm kinda nearby but lately my job is killing me so during weekends I become damn zzz.... >.<

I did 1/4 of Chilling cause it started drizzling so have to turn back for safety reason. Went to Kanching & managed to go pretty high up but I forgot to route de, Kanching is nice, peaceful & wasn't crowded. I'd be happy to go back there again to picnic at the top haha.
*
You just use the GPS and Kanching should be listed inside as it is a popular recreational area for the local during weekend. When you said you did 1/4, so I assume you did at least 2 river crossing besides the first bridge?

Where are you from since you mentioned nearby?

could Broga be less packed with people on weekdays? What time should we start to hike there? 6am?
bro, u referring to Broga?
*
I answer on behalf of Sky. He was referring to Gunung Datuk in Rembau, N9.

Broga Hill are pretty packed during weekend and public holidays but as for normal day, there are still crowd but less 80% of the usual crowd.

If you wanted to get a good spot for sunrise, some will hike as early as 6 AM. I did once hike as early as 5 AM just to take stars photography.

I think if you are to hike around 6.30-7 AM, that will be just nice. Half an hour hike and reach peak 3 can enjoy the nice scenery already.

Reason for some to hike early was to avoid the congestion at the last boulder, that also leads to Gunung Tok Wan if stay left.

@botterjr is from Subang FYI.

It has been a while since I been to Chiling to. Time to go there again one day.

Yay, need a guide to bring us up to the higher waterfall whereby there're lesser people.
*
You referring to which waterfall? If Chiling, instead of the last river crossing, keep right head up about 10 minutes hike and you will reach the third fall. The second fall is not accessible, however let me warn you about the third fall as certain area are pretty deep with at least 6' deep.

I was referring to Kanching at Rawang one. I kinda like Kanching over Chilling cause I felt it has less visitors.
Yea, need a tour guide lol.

Referring to 3rd fall of Chiling. The one above where the water is flowing from biggrin.gif

Kanching got little hike depends on which part you wish to trek.

Hi guys

Just came back from sg congkak this morning

In short,  nice place for camping. Clean and feel quite safe

Water is cooling. Only downside, my leg hurts walking in the stream. Too many smooth stones. Lol

And was raining heavily at night too. My camp masuk a bit water from underneath

Also the tent description can fit 5 ppl. Well, for me 2 adult 2 kids already feel a bit cramp. Fake marketing

Some pics to share

Thanks for sharing the picture and let me help you on the camping part.

We need to see the terrain first before setting up the tent to ensure the water does not flow into your tent base if it is raining. Unless you are in a limited constraint terrain, then you have no choice but Sg Congkak should not be an issue.

I am not sure whether you have a sleeping mat as your base to ensure your body stays warm during the night. Another method to ensure you sleep comfortable will be putting a ground sheet below of your tent which could provide you better area for you to put your unnecessary stuff outside of the camp when you are sleeping. Better investment will be an inflatable air mattress which could be 10 times more expensive compare to a mat. At least both methods will prevent you from catching wet during the night.

To choose a right tent, always remember to -1/-2. When it said as a 3 man tent, it is always comfortable with 1, ok for 2, cramp for 3. You could invest in a flysheet to secure your tent to ensure no water leakage comes from the top. Marketing is all about delusion. You could see why some choose to set up hammock instead of tents smile.gif

I would like to join Everest Base Camp next year.

Any of you interested to join me or any website I can go and join them?

So far I have in contact with this tour guide in nepal : http://www.nepalguidetrekking.com/Everest-...e-camp-trek.php

Are you well trained for EBC? I can tell you it is much more difficult compare to ABC if you never did before. AMS really a big threat here.

i setup my tent at special base for tents. i think the issue is the ground has water underneath

i got sleeping mat and also the inflatable air mattress, so we didn't get wet. just that underneath it got water

hammock no privacy  laugh.gif

If the ground got water underneath when I am setting up my tent, I will look for another option.

I guess you are unaware that Sg Congkak got two mountains - Gunung Chenuang and Batu Hampar if I am not mistaken. ROFL. Gunung Nuang is far away from Congkak by at least 30 minutes.
