Observe correct form with the deads. Back tight! Don't be hunching.
Also, belt too tight? My friend used to have that problem, it was quite funny to see him all redfaced. |

I went to the physiotherapist today. If you're living around Sri Petaling/Happy Garden/Kuchai Lama you should go to this place should you have the misfortune of an injury.
My hip flexors were properly screwed for 3 weeks. This meant that the squats I was so determined to increase (and worked hard for 8 weeks) was all to waste because I sustained an injury to my hip flexor when I was within reach of my goal. The physiotherapist told me that I probably have scar tissue formation around the area and the muscle fibres have not healed correctly. It hurts like a b**** when the hip flexors were isolated to contract. I am now undergoing some stretching rehab on my own and therapeutic ultrasound weekly to bi-weekly to help speed up my recovery. Hopefully I can get back to squatting full form soon. It's disappointing that all that weeks of hard work getting my squats up is now going to waste |

kotmj I was squatting 5sets of 8reps for quite a while with regular increments. I was determined to get a specific goal before I flew back to Malaysia, and it was on track with my increments (i.e. not a big jump). I guess when the weight gets heavier, the demands for stretching increases. I do stretch it out before each workout, of course now I realise that this probably needs more attention.
I guess what broke me was that it hurt and I was training through the pain anyway because I was so determined to make my weight before I flew back to Malaysia. I did make that weight but at the cost of an injury. I don't know how I got the pain in the first place but as far as I can recall, it was during the exam period and my head was not in the game. At the time, I was really frustrated and absent minded, so it probably hit me then and I was not fully aware of my condition. From then on, it is likely that with no proper recovery, a small injury which would've healed in 10 days was exacerbated by overenthusiasm, which leaves me to lick my wounds today. Safe. |

Dumping is a good way to save your ass. Better than having a spotter bring you up, oh that opens too many avenues for injury.
People staring at you is no big deal as long as you don't get hurt. A spotter would hurt you more than dumping. And I've had the misfortune of a spotter straddling his cock on my ass while I squat. |

Haha, no doubt it may not be favourable to the gym owners, but you never know when you have to dump (lol). It's not a problem about ego. Surely you know that some days are bad and while going through a smooth set suddenly a rep feels difficult out of the sudden. That momentary lapse of concentration would be better off with the bar off your back and on to the ground if it's starting to descend anyway.
I just find it too much of a risk to have a spotter behind me. I feel it's a risk to him and to me. You're squatting 135kg, I can't imagine being of any help if I was spotting you. Honestly, if I was spotting you, it would be all you anyway. I can't lift 135kg with my front delts! LOL Perhaps it's more psychological than physical. Having a spotter just gives you a boost to prove yourself further. On the other hand, spotters are funny people. You never know what they are going to do, so I prefer without the extra variable if I can do without it. Like I said, you don't want to be hugged in the ass and dry humped with 100kg on your back! I've been lucky to be at gyms that never minds weights being dumped (although I've only done it once or twice). It's not something you do often, but it could be a safer option. |

QUOTE(JonYeap @ Jul 13 2009, 09:44 AM) haha i get wat u mean bro... Oh I remember that. Yes 70 people in a gym is insane. Everyone there to lift weights? I've never met a Uni that has so many enthusiastic people about weights (even in Bristol where Rugby and Rowing is the main sport). Must make for a great lifting environment if it wasn't so crowded.but my gym here is campus gym where at least 30-70 ppl is in the gym at one go. haha... so throwing the weights down will definitely be a stupid choice. =.= so far, i never had a time where i have to dump the weights down. coz if i go too heavy, i will get someone to be at the back, just to help me push the bar up if i cant make it. haha... of coz i choose the right spotter. normally i ask big guys to be spotters, especially my mongolian fren who can deadlift 200kg 1.9meter, 100kg guy. =.= muahaha... so having him behind me, i do not worry if i fail. haha of coz, i ask him to hold the bar and not holding me. =.= |

Ah, the gym at Bristol is great. Built for weightlifting. The lifting room is about 1 badminton court size but has 4 barbells, a smith, plenty of plates and 2 sets of each dumbbell up to 40kg. It still gets crowded and I get what you mean! Especially on Mondays! Everyone thinks they can redeem themselves on Monday after a fat weekend.
The cardio machines are all in another room, so it doesn't affect the beasts. It can be quite frustrating when it's crowded! Bummer! But 70 people. Insane. |

QUOTE(SticH @ Jul 15 2009, 07:37 PM) Hello, I'm doing You can if you spend your time HIIT-ing and cutting down carbs.400 x 8 jumping ( around 30 minutes) 100 x 1 sit up (10 minutes) 20 x 1 leg up while on horizontal position (3 minutes) Is that sufficient to deduct 5% body fat from 20% and with a visible six packs abs in 2.5 months? |

You don't need 6 meals, but if you feel that you do, then shake it or make a sandwich.
Sandwich of fish, eggs and cheese are good. Added on July 15, 2009, 8:53 pmHIIT is interval training between high intensity sprints and short breaks of walking. i.e. 20second sprint, 40second jog x 8, so only an 8 minute workout. This post has been edited by mofonyx: Jul 15 2009, 08:53 PM |

You haven't seen beasts until you see rugby players squat and run.
Nothing more scary than tree trunks making a run. |

The only reason it would be bad is because of poor ventilation because air conditioning works best in enclosed areas. If the ventilation is good this shouldn't be a problem at all.
Cold air is fine for training. My friend runs marathons in the cold winter weather. I train with open windows in UK gyms that run colder than Malaysian air conditioners. |

QUOTE(sozhaiming @ Jul 25 2009, 12:33 PM) Hi there, I'm new to bodybuilding and suddenly got interested in building upper part of my body for a better appearance. I wanted to train out of gym if possible. Just own two 5kg dumbbells at home. squatCan I know some of the workouts that I should take and some of the natural foods I should take in a day ? FYI, I'm just 63kg with 176cm height. |
