So I was also wondering, how do you college guys manage to eat clean with all the easily available economy rice/ chicken rice at restaurants and food courts?
Like just now, I just ate RM5 worth of economy rice with 1 fried egg, fried drumstick and pork slices with gravy...all of them are not even close to clean but what can I do? I don't have a kitchen in my hostel room and everything in the economy rice like oily and full of gravy and lard.
EDIT:
So I was reading a 8 week get ripped diet plan and they have things like Atlantic salmon, cottage cheese and lean steak. How do I get those food? I really need to eat some kind of fruit but I don't have a fridge in my hostel room. So usually at night I just drink my milk from adding water to milk powder.
I don't even know some of the food they listed, like tilapia, zucchini, baby lima beans, haddock, halibut.
I think we need a Malaysian Bodybuilding Guide for Muscle Food, stating what are they, what they are called in locally, nutritional facts, price and where to get them.
What you can do is improvise. I too live on campus and can understand how hard it is to eat clean with the food here.Like just now, I just ate RM5 worth of economy rice with 1 fried egg, fried drumstick and pork slices with gravy...all of them are not even close to clean but what can I do? Here are a couple of tips which i personally practice:
1) Instead of taking the fried drumstick, choose chicken breast in soups or curry/gravy.
2) Cut down on the rice. Its economy rice, so u have control of how much rice u take.
3) Eat your vege! They are packed with nutrients and add up for the carbs u cut from rice.
4) Go easy on the gravy. Take just enough for taste, dont banjir the entire plate.
5) Fruits such as apples, oranges and pears can be kept without using a fridge for storage. I stock up my fruits weekly.
6) For milk, powder form is fine. Try getting SUNLAC Skim Milk from jusco. Its packed with protein, low in fat and a value for money buy. Another choice would be to stock up on 250ml packets of Dutch Lady low fat UHT milk. Each packet has 8.5g protein in it.
7) For fish, get some Tuna. They come in cans, so storage is not a problem.
Lastly, learn to cook and prepare meals in ur hostel(if cooking is allowed).
I manage to cook a variety of dishes just by using a rice cooker.
The only meal I have at campus is lunch since I would be having classes around that time, the rest I prepare myself.(currently consume 6 meals a day)
Hope this helps.
