hey all,

seems like everybody's talking about wireless gaming mice recently...but i still wonder if wireless is really the ultimate for gaming? coz i've used wireless mouse to play b4, it feels.....different and to me if it were to be played on slow pace games, rpg etc etc....it'll be ok.....but for fps games....its kinda of a weird feeling while i play using wireless mouse...like something just not there...

btw...everybody's been mentioning the sidewinder x8 and razer mamba, i wonder the previous models of these two, the sidewinder mouse and lachesis, will just been fine and hence cheaper then x8 and mamba....the thing is....will we as gamers really use up every freaking feature that those high end mouse supplies? i.e. the mamba's or lachesis's 4000dpi(i think) laser. Its not that practical right? plus if we put the x8 and the original sidewinder mouse together, sidewinder seems cheaper without the new blue track technology that microsoft been marketing it. Who's gonna play games on sand paper or carpet anyway??? i'm sure by now everybody knows about gaming mouse pads, i.e qpad, SS, xtrack, icepad, razer's, everglide's..etc etc.....bottom line is i would like to know what you guys think about these stuff that i've mentioned.

hey guys,

wanna ask something that i need to clear up.....so i heard and read in this thread that optical and laser mouse's performance maybe affected by what type of mouse pads/mats used....another question that was raised was the teflon feet of mice. Someone also said that hard pads/mats will be good for tracking(preferably laser) but will wear out the teflon coat faster. For soft pads/mats,(some say laser and optical works fine but preferably optical) the teflon coating does not wear and tear like the hard pads hence prolonging the product life.

So all these ifo i got is from ppl saying(typing). i can't find prove as to these sayings from trustable sites( cnet..etc etc.) So bottomline is.....which of them are correct and is it a supported fact?

p/s: planning to get a sidewinder or g5 but wan to have it working as long as possible...hence the questions.

Best Not neccesary is expensive

Expensive also not neccessary is GOOD

Here's are some suggestions on some key players in the market:

1. Microsoft:  Famous and its expensive in a way: try its X6 wireless series. But not every one like it as hardware is not their strength . OS instead

2. Logitech: Famous and also expensive witg quality but their gaming series some how not many and and NO new model release recently. Existing models seems kind of "too normal"

3. A4 Tech: Famous but price is very attractive with many special features that other don't have. Design also unique and have many range. But very ricj guy might not like them as they might perceive as "NOT expensive" enough

4. Razer: popular brand, but not many places availabe
*
very very very true.....but i would like to add something about a4tech....the x7 series is really good...but to now haven't heard of news regarding problems that may surface...but here's a thing...my friend got a tad lower series than the x7(donno whether its the x series or others) and he had returned to the manufacturer for more than twice now coz the mouse keep failing(sensor)...so i'm actually thinking....is a4tech really reliable? is it really long lasting???

for now microsoft eventhough sidewinder has been "dead" for quite sometime...but with the new Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse(not talking about x5 or x8 but the as mouse that i've stated) really looks good and for the features they offer, its kinda good(to think that they wan to go into the gaming peripheral market again)...

QUOTE(CityLife @ Mar 26 2009, 06:24 PM)
Agreed expensive not necessary good.

Choose mouse is like choose life patner,

u don't have to choose the objectively best;

choose the one that most suitable for u.

Need to try out the mouse urself and feel it and "discuss" ur choice with ur wallet.

All those brands are more of publicity and advertisement.
Such as Razor sponsored a number of gaming events last year.
So when you play games, u will associate with the advertisement branding.
Be smart and be analytical and not just to follow what some advertisement tell u.
*
I really support this....i'm a average gamer but now searching for a good gaming mouse...but i won't wan to have a mouse that doesn't suits me(ergonomics), i've been to a local pc shop in uk and tried palming the sidewinder, g5 and g9...so far the best are the sidewinder and g5.....there's another thing that we as consumers must have it mind is the money over product quality....are we paying what we get???...thats why if really wan to have a mouse that suits you and long lasting(by 2-3years, at least 2years), we must do our own research.....

what city life said was true...some brands like razer are monopolizing the gaming peripheral industry, thus they can pump up their prices without worrying losing of ppl buying coz their brand is popular...to me...eventhough the looks of razer mouse are very very tempting, but i've read and heard alot about the mice being faulty after 1 year of using(but depends on different level of usage).

Oh...what kind of the failure of sensor ur friend facing? Lagging? Un-detectable? Which model he bought?
*
nope...the sensor just failed...meaning cannot detect anything...I think he is using the glazer or run on shine mice....come to think of it i got another friend's a4tech mouse oso got wire problem...he said after some half year usage, the wire at the end of the mouse head starts to like 'unwired' then now the rubber coating also came out(only at that part). what he said that it needs to be rewired(soldering). but have you heard of any problems that x7 series might face??

p/s: i might be wrong of which model of mouse my friend uses.....i think it might be the 3x or something..haha

hhmmm...seems like everybody still onto roccat kone.....i'm at Uk right now, Nottingham to be exact....I tried finding the kone at PC World nearby my place..but I couldn't find any kones.......the other thing is that I've already done research on the kone especially in uk forums......the shocking thing that i've come across is the fact that the mouse wheel will break as it won't scroll or click(this problem may occur as early as 1-2 months of use)...the forum post is very recent, say jan-feb.....if you wanna know just type in google "roccat kone mouse wheel" then the 1st post already has it....i've post up in this thread before but it seems like not alot of ppl seen it....

Does it happen to majority or just a few defect mice?
*
well...from what i see...a few batches got this defect....take note that this mouse is quite new...but then from the forum...they said that roccat wanna put in new scrolls to prevent this prob...but the thing is i don't know which ones are new and which ones are defect....like the batch number or produc...so more research on those must be done b4 buying....also....in Roccat's official website, they did not say anything regarding the defects......

also got a video(youtube) unbox and review on this mouse on roccat sense mouse pad....but then read the description...the fella said that the sensor doesn't work properly on their own mouse pad rclxub.gif

I'm ok if its rosak. What worries me is claiming the warranty T_T
*
wah bro...hoping it doesn't spoil is a good thing...if it spoils so fast might as well say that the build quality of the mouse not good....but yes...claiming warranty is a big issue....tell you what...if you go onto ebay/amazon/play.com (UK) to search for gaming mices...its cheap if you buy it from there...but then have to put in mind that the warranty will be hard to claim if anything happens to the mouse...i'm worrying about it too as i've found a good price for a microsoft sidewinder mouse on one of the sites...but then its tempting brows.gif

Added on April 2, 2009, 1:03 amguyz......found another "tempting" mouse...its something new(i think) from Gigabyte...the Gigabyte GM-M8000 Ghost gaming mouse(nice name brows.gif ) i have the review from clunk.org.uk down here

2 years back laser aint good. But today's laser technology is different. Lift off distance is close to optical ^^

so did you meant that the SW's laser is 2 years back tech??..

Now I'm contemplating if I should get it from europe or australia. Though I'm not sure if aus has it. I'm still researching for it.
*
well...Roccat is only for the Europe market for now but on their site they say they gonna bring it to the USA......I don't think they sell it in AUS thou..but there are sure to be importers...just that the price might not be lower than the europe ones...

Is wireless mouse really bad in gaming?
*
well...with today's technology...it depends.....like razer mamba and microsoft sidewinder, they have come up new innovations to improve the connections of both mice and receiver......the thing is...alot of ppl keep saying that wired mice will beat any wireless mice...but it really depends on the users...to me its a "gut" feeling....last time tried to play using friend's wireless mouse...but felt very weird...I mean...playing slow pace games are ok but when play high speed games like fps games...will get the feel of something is missing...donno why...but thats just my 2cents laugh.gif

Already eyeing on this mouse, but budget limited. sweat.gif My worries for this mouse is the surface not suitable for sweaty hands. It's available in low yat for rm230. Previously rm200. doh.gif
*
I don't know about the pricing thou..thx for the info..happy.gif ... but yeah, when i first saw the surface of the mouse, i would wonder what if someone got sweaty hands like mine would feel... hmm.gif

on another note, I think i'll oder my sidewinder mouse by monday since i've got confirmation that the warranty carries a 3 year international warranty. icon_idea.gif so no worries if anything happen on the mouse after coming back to malaysia(touch wood tongue.gif ). Plus getting a SS Qck too.. wink.gif

well..i'm sure alot of ppl will be thinking that way too...but Gigabyte just trying their luck in gaming peripheral sector, I pretty sure their gaming range will be lower in price compared to logitechs, Micsft, razer...I think it would be safe to say that a4tech will be the one gigabyte gonna put up with...
