we have a mamak in sydney too but tell me how much u pay for ur roti kosong, and how good do they taste? acceptable? probably. fantastic? probably not when compared to stuff we have in msia.

it's not hard to find msian food in aus. problem is theyre all just edible or average. for the truly orgasmic ones u still gona come back

Sounds like fun. but how much do they cost? and what is the commute time etc. ? and how much free time do you have? can a waitress realistically expect to own a house in a good neighborhood (i.e a safe one with modern conveniences and a short commute to her workplace) in her lifetime?
*
if you are a full time waitress in a nice well known franchised restaurant, you could prolly earn around 20$ per hour. if you work like 40 hours a week, so you get $700 a week give or take minus tax. ?? i am not sure. i'm just a part time.

as for owning a house to yourself without sharing with anyone. i guess it is possible but it would take a much longer time than professionals. and you would be more restricted. might not even save much or save at all. depending if you're single or married. it's really hard to say. and it realy depends on the individual.

but you can always buy the house. pay the mortage and rent some rooms to people or even friends. that will definitely help out a lot. and if you have a spouse, he/she can always help out. like paying 50 50.

my bro's gonna get married in 2 years. so i better save all my pennies for that rainy day! hopefully, i could save enough to get a house by then!

which is why malaysia is at the top of the country with the highest accident rate.
but yeh, i wasnt used to it when i first drove here, i didnt stop at the junction with a stop sign. and got a $300 penalty! and after that my mind just went blank!
*
yea those are caused by many factors, but personally if i know i wont be bothering anyone, why cant i do something to make my life a little easier without having to worry about a slap in the face by the govt?

im used to driving in aus and u do get used to it, but it still feels restrictive compared the shit ur allowed to do in msia.

funny story. i once saw a car hit another car at a roundabout. i assume someone neglected to stop for the vehicle coming from the right, no one was actually alert enough and bam they hit each other. i was wondering to myself this wouldnt happen in msia cos we're all so used to not giving way to ppl at roundabouts anyway, we end up usually being more defensive on the road.

well for the place that i work at.. i can work any amount of days i want in a week. we have to write down our availabilities every week. and my boss would do the roster. and if i am going for a vacation, i'd just have to let her know.

So you'd just be like... I'm going to Malaysia tomorrow, and she'd be like "ok" ? this would be great to implement here, but what if it so happens she is short-handed one day?

QUOTE(MeruChan @ Jan 6 2011, 12:25 AM)
I work about  20-30 hours / few days a week. pretty laid back. have plenty of time on my hands. and still save enough to get a car in a few months and to go around malaysia, singapore and indonesia.

If you had to pay rent though would you be able to travel? and would you be able to afford a house on your salary?

u'd be able to travel and own an old car but not afford a house. u can rent and that will be good. but most waiters/tresses are students or single mums looking to earn an extra buck. it's not something u'd wana live off really. unless ur a bum like alot of those bogans

So in two years you can save enough to buy a house in a good safe neighborhood with conveniences nearby? a bank would extend a housing loan for a nice large house in a safe neighborhood (with modern conveniences and short commute) to a waitress?

It does seem like a nice work/life balance though. It would be cool to work only when you need money. Over here's it's either you work or you don't work. You can't like work two hours a day, and then take tomorrow off, and then work three hours the next day. Imagine not having to work because it's a nice day to go walking smile.gif btw any good hiking or walking trails? and how much are macadamia nuts these days?

PS. You know what, that's my dream. Just to work when you need money. Here everyone is like, "don't take a holiday unless you are half dead, we want to give you money, work harder, here's more money, work harder!" and then one day you drop dead and never get to spend any of it. What's the point of that? I'm going to retire and stuff myself totally full of macadamia nuts. It's impossible to get fresh macadamia nuts in this country.

yea it's funny, we don't have as many accidents cos people are more selfish on the road lol, and pedestrians know that if they cross at the wrong time it might cost them a lot, so they're naturally more careful, which also leads to less accidents lol smile.gif

Hello people, I'm sorry to interrupt all these discussions. I have all my documents ready other than Malaysian police clearance check. Is it ok if I submit my application first without it and attach a letter explaining the circumstances? And then send it at a later time? My student visa expires this month sad.gif

I take it you're not in Queensland right now.

This is in Toowoomba, where USQ is. Anyone in USQ right now?
