Yeap...i do watch the 98/99....and it is really interesting that we always come back from behind....but that is added with some luck with our side during that year too...
but for this year....it is totally different...we totally dominate every game and don't give any chance to others team even to have a shot on goal to us....this year our team are more stable that in 98/99....the class of 98/99 certainly is something that going to rush your adrenaline...and if you were telling me that we are playing more seamlessly smooth footbal on 98/99.....i do not agree on this.... 98/99....beckham is the focal point....his crosses are deadly....
Just take this year as example....how many goal we have scores from the crosses?? we have more ground passing this year...we break opponent defence by those deadly through ball....i was so awe each time carrick/berbatov makes one...
PS: and bare in mind...the season review you are watching are highlights....highlights don't tell the whole story thou...
Well the games have changed in the last ten years. I totally agree that our squad this year has more stability, but really the word that is on everyone's mind is defense. We probably have the best defense in United's history this year and that's not something the 98/99 team can say they had. We conceded lots and lots of goals that season but we certainly compensated with more goals. We had an amazing quintet of strikers and the best midfield lineup in the world in Giggs-Scholes-Keane-Becks. Becks certainly delivered with his crosses but so was the rest of the team, even Yorke had double figures in both assists and goals.
While stability is the key, I also wished that we weren't as cautious in our tactics lately. We now drew 0-0 against Barca and Inter in the CL these 2 years, something that we didn't see in that legendary 98/99 season. We attacked, we pressured the opponents and it did paid off handsomely with our goals.
And no, scoring more ground passing doesn't mean we're better. We're also not score enough goals this year, we've nicked numerous 1-0 wins and that can only be convincing to a certain extent.
