My garden is in the same stated too sad.gif

I don't think it works, too much clay and little rocks. I saw my neighbour digging about 6" - 8" depth before laying grasses on top.

I'm going to Sg Buloh soon for some professional advice. Keep you posted soon.

Thanks for sharing. Indeed it is informative, at least to kick start the garden project.

Last weekend I went down to few nurseries in Sg Buloh. The most suitable grass for my garden is Philippines grass, as my garden has perfect morning sun (at least 6 hours a day).

Got a quotation from Lot 16&17, the Philippines grass is RM1.50 for 2'X1', it's their Hari Raya promotion. Japanese grass is RM4.00.

Another quote from Potter's Garden, is RM2.50 for Philippines grass.

Both are selling soil at RM1 (red soil) and RM2 (black soil). Pebble stones ranging from RM9.00 to RM11.00 per packet, depending on the size.

Still thinking whether to DIY or let the expert do it. I do have interest for gardening and don't mind to get my hands dirty. However, I'm afraid that it could be labour intensive job.

Any forummer who DIY, would care to share their experiences?

You r welcome bro, I think diy will be time consuming n intensive labor, but the best part is u r enjoying the whole process n when the results turn good, the feeling really nice n satisfied

How long it takes for you to DIY? Manpower: My husband and I smile.gif

Look at my garden, during renovation (no weeds) and current state (lalang is about 2-3 feet tall). Still got hope for DYI?

Yes, possible but massive work need to be done n take long time, first stage cabut all lalang first, then loose the soil by turning them massively and let it dry under sun for 1 week to dry the root of the lalang. after all will be great to have a rain to flatten the soil. this stage took about 3 weeks before u can proceed carpet grass

Wow.. didn't know it will takes a month! When I asked Lot 16 to quote me, they just mentioned the work to be done from clearing, treatment, delivering, then payment!

The earlier thread mentioned about using chemical weed killer to kill the weed, however read in the link you provided earlier, that it's not recommended unless the professional do it. What is your take?

I personally strongly refuse to use chemical treatment as not environmental friendly (although they claimed safe to be used). Love earth tongue.gif the procedure I posted before is a part of cleaning smile.gif

Don't have a picture of my unit so stole one from iProperty...

Would it be possible to estimate the cost of using this phillipine grass & soil and undersoil piping for that small lawn at the side of the car porch from this? I don't quite have the exact measurements at the moment.

For grass and soil + labour would probably be around RM 3.50 per sq feet. Not sure about piping. What I wonder is should you be using soil for philippines grass. I've been told that they grow better if you use sand instead of soil. Anybody can shed some light on that?

Japanese grass RM4.50 - RM 5.00 (2ft X 1ft)

Philippines grass RM 1.50 (2ft X 1ft)

You see the difference?

Philippines grass will grow long on shady area.

Sg. Buloh a lot.

I just went to Sg Buloh... Japanese grass looks better to me. Grows shorter and finer in thickness. But price wise much more expensive than philipine grass

If your grass expose to sunlight longer period then the grass tend to be short, if shady area will grow long.

This japanese grass has a odd way to manage.. if u dun trim it once a while, it wont grow.. so if u want it to grow fast, u just have to trim it from time to time... dats wat a gardening sifu told me... but his theory seems to be working for my garden lah

I like Japanese grass too.. but it is not suitable for my garden. My garden has more than 6 hours of morning sun, so need to go for Philippines grass. If your garden are shady, then can opt for Japanese grass.
