WARNING TO ALL KIARA RIDERS: DON'T GO TO 4K LOOP.

Today a friend of mine and me hit the 4k loop after cruising though 2k and Snakes and Ladders. It used to be that 4k was the 'most recommended' trail. It is now in a state of shame. The trails are extremely narrow (they were narrow in the first place, now the shrubs are creeping in from all sides!) that we feel like we are riding inside bushes.

Once you pass the bridge beside the lake the overgrowth starts to engulf you. Many times I had to let down my feet to push through the leaves. There is a fork after a slope here. To the right, it takes you to the tarmac that adjoins 2k, which is preceded by a slope+switchback that is uber-slippery. To the left, is the real 4k.

We knew it was 4k because we can see those tiny little white papers that are littered around to mark that "you are on the right trail". And because the map says so. There are also many papers saying ON-ON. WTF does this mean?

We went further. The trail was arduous, but we went on, hoping to eventually reach the ramp that is placed near the 4k entrance in a proper manner of completing the rest of the loop first. After some time (trail felt long because we cycled slowly, dangerous) we faced a dead end. Not really a dead end, but a tree had fallen across the trail! Now Kiara trails are mostly built ON a slope, levelled well and widened a bit for cyclists and hikers alike.

We cannot pass further. We were both dissapointed like a pair of participants in the Amazing Race that got stuck! I tried to see if I could go pass the deadfall, but it was the main leafy/branchy part that is covering the trail, and we'd have to be able to fly at least 3 metres to get past it! After getting bitten by at least 20 mozzies due to the slow ritual of turning your bike to the opposite direction in a 50cm wide trail, we trudged onwards back to the tarmac. Halfway back, my friend suddenly plunged for about 5 feet down the hill that lines up beside the trail after his back tyre slipped on a root. A clump of bushes stopped his fall (good use of bushes, finally). We moved on back and finally reached the pump house where 4k starts.

Went to the bike washing area and the water trickles like piss. Managed to clean off the bike and see an elderly Korean couple chucking watermelon cubes to the monkeys.

Went to Devi's Corner to drink, and luckily got some decent amoi and minah eating there. Good way to vent off all the unhappyness from 4k.

I thought got a bunch of white people and some riders to some trail maintenance? Or do they only maintain the trails more often used like for KDD?

PJ / klang valley..............heard kiara is very technical...suitable for 1st timer?
*
Kiara.. if you are really a newcomer then I suggest you go find some other singletracks (any dirt path will do) or unless you got a someone/group to guide you to Kiara, then can go. I'd say that the 2k trail is very smooth flowed except for some parts which I think most of us push our bikes up. It's technical in certain areas..

Sorry bro, my Dad bought the bike for me. Got very few bike shops in Seremban. I'd recommend you visit each one cause if not mistaken, a lot of shops in Seremban have T-Bolt's. But at different and bargain-able prices. I bought my T-Bolt 6 months ago.
*
Yup! But in KL also can find lah. The average price of a T-Bolt now should be RM900 +/-

Hey guys, my dad gonna buy me and him a new full-sus bike (shared), which one do you guys think is better? Trek Fuel 6.5 or Gary Fisher Hi-Fi? They cost RM7.5k and RM6.5k respectively. Come see it in Joo Ngan at Uptown Damansara Utama biggrin.gif

QUOTE(TechnoDude94 @ Mar 20 2009, 05:09 PM)
You said last time you've got a few friends who paid RM700 for a few T-Bolts (bulk)? sweat.gif Btw, I'm gonna deliver the Merida Matts TFS XC 900 back to my friend today. cry.gif
*
Not a few.. a whole club of them! But I said AVERAGE price in the market lah. RM700 would be offbalancing the market price as it is too low sweat.gif

QUOTE(TechnoDude94 @ Mar 20 2009, 08:26 PM)
May I know what fork are you currently using?
I live opposite Rodalink @ Bangsar! flex.gif Urm, I said it's hybrid cause it's not fully MTB cause of the tires it comes with. Secondly, it's not fully road bike cause of the front suspension fork.
*
That looks like a RockShox Dart 3. Costs about RM450.

Do you have a hardcoc* bike?

QUOTE(TechnoDude94 @ Mar 21 2009, 01:37 PM)
When I compared the Trek Fuel 6.5 with the Gary Fisher Hi-Fi Procaliber (cheaper one out of both Hi-Fi XC).
The Gary Fisher Hi-Fi Procaliber definitely/obiviously triumps with it's array of XT/XTR parts however, the Trek Fuel 6.5 is only laced with normal/usual Deore.

Edit:
Latias93, I realized that I didn't know what model is the Gary Fisher Hi-Fi that you're talking about. doh.gif
Therfore, please ignore the irrelevant comparison.

*
The Trek Fuel Ex 6.5 displayed has XT parts and one of the two bikes has a SLX RD, or was it crankset? Can't remember xD

Yes, use insect repellent especially in FRIM and Kiara. In Kiara, if you stop for just 2 seconds, at least 10 mozzies will come and fly around you and 4/10 will have found a sweet spot on your legs and arms biggrin.gif

The 2k trail is really smooth and flowy, don't matter. The only hard parts are some slope switchbacks, even the pros push their bikes up there xD.

I need a good sleep for energy because I lack stamina xD

The tarmac uphill at Kiara to the crossroad up there, I cannot tahan weh. Always take shortcut from the park through Carnival.

QUOTE(maxguy @ Mar 22 2009, 06:26 PM)
It was great day to go riding at kiara, weather was perfect (dry and didn't rain). The lunch at mamak was just nice(courtesy of snapshots, thanks man)

Trails covered for today's ride

Full loop 2k, reserved 2k loop follow by Apollo and mild climb on tarmac toward to Carnival trail. Well, next ride will explore further to clocked more mileages.

Many thanks scotty to make it happen, nightstalker1993 leads the trails and also glad to have latias93 and snapshots join in the ride.
*
Yeah, it was great! Thanks guys, it was my best ride because finally I had a group to lead me though Kiara. Before this all I did was hang out on the tarmac xD and an unsuccessful attempt to traverse 4k.

Rider list & What They Do:

1) NightStalker1993 - ride so damn fast, pro at the downhill trail!
2) latias93 - came along to test out his new bike and explore more of Kiara (bike did GREAT, BTW!)
3) Maxguy - pro climber, most of the uphill parts can climb steadily like a goat.
4) Scotty - 'newbie' riding Jamis Dakar full-sus bike (as opposed to the T-Bolty he claims)
5) Snapshots - this guy got lots of stamina! Can tahan better than me on uphills.

The reverse 2k loop and the Carnival DH trail was sweet!

Scotty - you got take pic with your iFon 3G right? Upload lah laugh.gif

I think that everyone in this thread should join the ride! I will definitely go again if it's held at Kiara.

Curious to know. Does having a dual-crown fork improve uphill cycling performance? Why most people needa' dual-crown fork for downhill?
PS: I know it's heavier.
*
Dual-crown forks NEVER improve uphill cycling performance. They need dual-crown forks for downhill to absorb maximum impact on front landing.. this is a luxury to own biggrin.gif
