Hi all!

I'm new to MTB. Just got a bike for casual cycling around my kampung.

What tyre pump should I get? And how much pressure do you pump your tyres?
*
Hm.. if you're only planning to cycle around your kampung.. then Exitway (local brand) has pumps for about RM35. I'm assuming you use mountain bike/cross-country tyres, I put in about 30 psi each tyre but the other guy said about 28-30 psi so I suppose you should follow his more accurate advice using hand pumps. Make sure you don't pump to the MAX. Just let it be slightly bouncy and not too hard.

BTW, anyone here went Kiara just now petang? There was a group of 4 people and 3 of them are using BH bikes.. while the other one used a Santa Cruz. Was wondering if it was any of you guys. Followed them into 2k trail.. nowadays it's rainy seasons it was rather muddy and the roots are so damn slippery.

Thanks for remember to upload the pictures. icon_rolleyes.gif
No prob! But they're not much to see xD I think the GT Backwoods performs better but somehow the Giant XtC Team looks better (anyone notice the DJ bike trend?). My GT Backwoods has full XT and a nice Rock Shox SID XC which are still in tip-top condition now (hardly used). I guess it's the color theme of my Giant that makes it nice.. black/yellow.. matching yellow pedals.. hey Ober guess what I cabut the bottle cage like you said, it's been a bane recently - If I wear long or 3/4 pants it always somehow manage to hook itself on the bottle cage mad.gif I should post the specs soon.. both bikes LOL.. one XC and one DJ bike.

Oh yeah BTW Adrian have you been to Kiara before?

I'd prefer if you call me TechnoDude94 and not my real name (Adrian) as this is the "internutzz". TIA. Btw, I haven't been to Kiara "yet".
*
Okay then TechnoDude94, I agree that anything can has happen in teh Internutz. Why not? No transportation? I'm rather lonely cycling for the whole of this March, since my one and only cycling buddy has been grounded. Can't go to Kiara alone - mostly training on DJ skills at the BMX track in BU7 (Bandar Utama). Must. Learn. Bunnyhops. Hey NS, how does your friend bunnyhop so high over the motor kapcai? I can't even hop an inch from flat ground.

Yea.. actually in my opinion T-Bolts are not engineered for downhill or extreme stuff.. it's more for just plain XC.. the whole world saw what happened to your Serena..

TechnoDude, get a bike rack la. Not that expensive.. considering those top-end cars you use brows.gif

I'd like to sell you my Thule roof rack from our previous car Honda Stream, but each different car got different model for it (must enquire with the Thule staff, of course). For both cars you can install a Thule roof rack, or you can install a rear bike rack for hatchbacks (Volks Golf) and a rear bike rack for sedans (Merc)

He's thinking on the Mitsubishi Triton or the Nissan Navara. However, I'll have to wait about a few months more till I can continue cycling as I've got to *prepare* for my PMR. doh.gif Actually, I can fit the T-Bolt into the E-Class but I've to remove both wheels. sweat.gif
My Dad offered to buy me a Thule Rear Bike Rack (Universal) @ RM400 but no point (yet) cause I paused cycling until PMR is over.
*
Mitsubishi Tritons are cool, plus alot of people like to pimp-out their tritons with scissors doors or lowriders, if you're into that rclxm9.gif

Removing BOTH wheels are alot of hard work xD, actually just the chain part.. the QR always somehow manage to snag onto the chain while you remove the rear wheel. Front wheels remove in seconds biggrin.gif

Paused cycling until PMR is over? It's a loooooong time dude.. not the point but cycling is a healthy sport and will not effect your PMR whatsoever (except if you join a xc hash or dh race a week before PMR!).. best to cycle during holidays and PMR days (allocate some free time during evening for cycling, like 1 hour or 30 mins).. you'll feel much better and refreshed for tomorrow biggrin.gif

It's so tiring at Steroid Hill.. even on the lowest gear! I was panting like hell when I went there.. hence the name, you'll certainly must use steroids to go up.. even triggering myself into hyperactivity no-rest mode via some Wonka candies does not work there! Bah!

Update:
Heys guys, I've got another bike to use but for a week, a Merida TFS 900.
I didn't buy the bike, my friend bought it yesterday and he lent the bike to me for a week to test.
The reason he asked me to test his bike is because, he won't be at home for a week as it's school holidays and he doesn't wanna let the bike waste there.
Btw, he paid RM4.3k++ for the bike @ KSH (If you're curious).
*
Nice, a TFS 900. I've tested alot of bikes and the TFS 900 is not bad a bike, but at that price I'd personally grab a Commencal MaxMax, or a Giant Anthem. Hope you'll have fun riding it during the holidays! Ask him to let you bring the bike to Kiara (just bring the bike here in any way possible!) You'll have a blast, guaranteed.

Hello seniors.. I'm a rookie here.. using a Nexus Excalibur wit deore crankset.. wat brand double fork is gd to use? want to change the stock version.. where u guys test? instrested in join & meeting new riders..
*
Depends on your budget - I'd highly recommend SR Suntour forks. Alot of people here are using Suntours too. If your budget is around RM300 then get the SR Suntour XCR. Around RM500-600, get the SR Suntour Epicon. At about RM450 or so (not sure) you can also get a RockShox Dart 3. But what kind of riding you do? Do you do cross-country or just pusing-pusing around town only?

Hm.. most of us here hardly meet each other in this forum.. since we are all spread all over the country and globe.. but I see that a few of us regularly go on rides in Kiara, FRIM and so on. I mostly test my wares in Kiara, since it's near my home in Mutiara Damansara.

Anybody know of anything in the market along this line but cheap?
*
Hmm about 8 years back before I got my Giant XtC Team my cousin gave me his Pinnacle bike (similar to Raleigh) but it was too big for me so they brought it back to UK where they bought it (they stay there temporarily cos the father wanna finish Masters). It was quite a nice bike though. But the frame was slightly thinner than the one in the pic you supplied. Oh, it also has a suspension seatpost and stem! Awesome stuff. If you put those two in a dual-sus bike, you get a QUAD-SUSPENSION BIKE!

Those that've suspension (coil spring) on seatpost are ancient bikes. Those tht have suspension on stem are usually called "HeadShok" by Cannondale. However, I doubt your cousin is using a Canondale with HeadShok cause most HeadShok bikes are alumnium. My cycling mates who both ride Cannondale's with HeadShok are using 15-year old bikes that are Alu 6061 and are freaking light.
Woa, RM60 per piece?! shocking.gif Much cheaper than Kenda Nevegals. rolleyes.gif
*
My cousin is now a skateboarder LOL. RM60/pair that's the price of my Kenda Kinetics. But it's not those types with white Kenda writings at the sides - mines all black, I suspect it's a reproduced pair. But it still has front/rear specific tyre grooves.. and even thought its not pure ori tyres can still climb better than my friend's Kona Cowan with Kenda Blue Groove tyres. My 10-year old GT Backwoods still can climb like a goat! biggrin.gif

How about changing to a totally new bike, like the Proton T-Bolt that I think Mr. Latias93 is able to source for you @ around RM700++. brows.gif
*
LOL @ RM 700 would be quite hard to find now but I can tell you that a number of sellers are letting it go at RM999 (as seen on a banner on the tarmac road uphill in Kiara). Or can just buy the frame at BBS, only about RM400? Usually they include the seatpost, stem.. also at one occasion I saw this guy sell a T-Bolt frame with Fox rear shox at RM430.

I can get a few @ RM850.
I think you better edit your post if not later you're gonna get flaming when sensitive people view your post.

QUOTE(bonesboy @ Mar 17 2009, 08:49 PM)
how abt deore XT? is it gd? how much is it for the front & rear shifters
*
I'm using full XT right now on my GT Backwoods. It's damn well good! Although mine is at least 6/7 years old it still runs smooth as a SLX/Saint. Probably because the bike has only been used a few times xD (it's my dad's bike, he works off-shore so he gave it to me recently)

Wonder if replica DH frames would break easily..

.. and I wonder if there are REPLICA SHIMANO SAINT?

i was previously using a replica GT Avalanche and it managed to survive me a couple of months before being sold and replaced with the chucker, which cracked after 6 months which was again replaced by my sputnik lol...

and only immitation products i know of are frames, CK headsets, non-moving parts like seatposts, stem, bars and saddles...

immitations of more complicated stuff like RD, shifters and stuff are unheard of...

Your Sputnik memang camo paint or you custom made?

LOL I was hoping ada jual Shimano Saint/Yumeya replica xD all those black/gold bling on mah bike!

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Mar 18 2009, 02:21 AM)
Let's put it this way.. I'm in the manufacturing industry with production in China. Nothing bike related of course but I suppose its more or less the same regardless.

Real 7075 and 6061 alloys are expensive... the mega big manufacturers have mega big volume so naturally they're get things cheaper.

Mega big manufacturers don't do unauthorized "branding" aka replicas... so if there's a chance that it can't be the real deal...something else could be in the alloy mix. Just guess work here.

There's this interesting experience with plastic parts whereby the supplier added something else into the mix to cut down cost by a few cents ( a few cents x a few million unit is a lot of money)... a small undetectable percentage but at the end, after 6 months... higher than usual failure rates (not every piece fails but a abnormally high percentage). Not every unit will break of course.

I can't speak for the malaysian market but I would rather go for a cheap unbranded/local brand frame than a replica. At least there's somebody behind the product. Piracy is morally incorrect so... ya never know the story behind it.... you know lar all those stories about fake salt lar, fake rice, fake egg...
