Mmm.... everyone already out riding? So quiet today.

I'm not riding this few days. Taking care of my Mum in hospital. However, I'm forumming from Starbucks which is located @ Ground floor of the hospital but my Mum's room is upstairs (4th floor).

Sniper: i ma still here just busy with some work.
Everybody: if there is one piece of life long advice you shoul take other than wearing sunscreen is to degrease your chain! preferably with a chain cleaner and install a "missing link" so you can take it off and bath in the finest lube money can buy! i did it yesterday and now it is buttery smooth! although i think i may have missed lubing half the chain, coz i have bathed in lube.

I think we should recommend one another to save up as there may be a very bad recession coming and retrenchment. ohmy.gif

I also cycle to school on my Giant XtC Team.. My school got limited slots on the bike stand, all the BMX Rempits take up the space, so other cyclists either use bike stand or for me just lean against pillar and lock the wheels to the frame.. then can already biggrin.gif

My reply to your post here is even late.. from what I conclude I've ridden RST forked bikes.. RST Capa T4 is very low-spec.. the other RST's also not so good, like RST Gila Pro.. and all RST's doesn't work in the winter sadly (not that it may concern you), my uncle brought his T-Bolt to Japan on a 2-week trip and the RST fork wouldn't work in the winter.. NS suggested that you buy Suntour Epicon '09.. if you cannot tahan until 2010 then there's a cheaper Suntour XCR
*
Your the same age as NS1993 right? May I know what school your from? If your curious, I'm from Sri Cempaka. I doubt I'll be cycling to school as there's not a single cyclist who parks their bike in school. Btw, may I know the estimated price of the Suntour XCR fork with the most travel?

hi all,

last week i just upgrade to xt group set and MAVIC Cross Ride Wheel Set 2009...

any good frame for recommendation here? (budget rm1.5 for hardtail, rm5k for full sus, but i prefer full sus all mountain bike as i like to jump, and xc) i saw this trek fuel ex7, around rm7k...very nice...
*
First and foremost, welcome to MTB Heaven V9. Mind posting pictures of your new groupset and wheelset? brows.gif

QUOTE(latias93 @ Feb 21 2009, 10:37 PM)
Sorry to hear about your mom dude.. but it doesn't stop you from coming back here in LYN.. welcome, welcome  I suppose you are surfing with those MacBooks you use in school as well

I believe I am the same age as NS1993.. we both born in 1993, so yes.. I am from SMKBUD(4) school, and if it helps my school is located in between Ikano, Ikea, and One Utama. Pretty neat, eh?

Govt. schools have alot of cyclists especially BMX Rempits.. then there are those quiet nerdy guys who use Lerun.. and there's only three people (now two left) who has ever bought a 'expensive' bike to school before.. one is a stock Proton T-Bolt like yours, green color.. one is me.. and the other is a guy that likes to help out at the Bandar Utama bike shop.. he currently rides a GT Avalanche is he hasn't changed to a Da Bomb yet..

About the Suntour XCR fork.. I don't recall the inches of travel it offers but you can bet its more or less the average travel of your RST Capa T4. The shop I often hang out at in Bandar Utama has one in stock.. it's 200 plus, don't remember exact price because I didn't ask.. and a friend of mine has been ogling the Suntour XCR for some time to match his new bike, a 2006 Gary Fisher GED (not exactly new, but it wasn't second hand).

If you are from Sri Cempaka, I wonder if you know any boy named Irfan? He is born in 1994 and I believe he is the same age as you.. he is no longer studying there but he was once in Sri Cempaka. That's the guy with the Gary Fisher.. I roped him into the world of mountain biking..costed him and his parents $$$$
*
Thanks for the kind wishes (also). rclxms.gif Yeap, I'm using my MacBook as I type this reply. I wish my school has the same location as yours. My T-Bolt is "orange"-colored, I chose orange as it's brighter and can be easier/easily spotted while I cycle on the road. icon_idea.gif I won't be upgrading my bike *yet*, only after PMR. doh.gif I've heard of a boy called Irfan through another friend called "Aidin" who was introduced to MTB-iking by your friend (Irfan). Yes, from what I heard, Irfan upgraded from a Gary Fisher to a Commencal (If not mistaken). If he (Irfan) didn't upgrade to Commencal, then his brother is using Commencal. His (Irfan's) parents, have money if not mistaken. wink.gif

I think if those fu*ked up thieves are so God-damned desperate to steal a bike, they'll bring power tools to cut through any chain/lock. However, if they use an electrical saw to cut through your chain/lock, there'll be noise disturbances and your whole school would know that something is happening (bike robbery).

QUOTE(latias93 @ Feb 22 2009, 02:07 AM)
After PMR? LOL.. PMR don't matter lah.. trust me.. I was laughing while doing the questions and I didn't even study (seriously!).. they were far easier than you think they are.. then again I'm sure you meant about the money.. but trust me man PMR not hard.. I always get C or D for Maths in normal exams then PMR can get A.. I got 5A3B by the way..

Anyway you've got the wrong Irfan.. the Irfan I knew once used a Lerun-comparable bicycle before getting a Gary Fisher recently (his first 'expensive' bike).. and Irfan was only introduced to MTB about November last year when I started shoving him into the singletrack trails nearby.. and yes he has a brother but his brother is only 4 years old and he is not using a Commencal >.< (too far out of their budget range!). The parents have money but is spent restocking their furniture/restaurant biggrin.gif  and the Gary Fisher costs RM1380 because it is a 2006 model.. EVERYTHING is Bontrager, even the wheels, seat, seatpost.. except for a Cane Creek headset, and your norm of a Shimano brakes/groupset

Actually, I'm not allowed to use my own money (CNY Red-packets/B'day money/Doing-well-academically present (money), those are meant to be used if, the family is in financial difficult times (recession) for my university when I grow older. icon_rolleyes.gif Right now, my parents pay for everything (I don't mean to be sombong/proud). No offense, but 5As + 3Bs = Doesn't really cut it for me/family cause all my cousins have 7As and I'm the youngest cousin in the family. doh.gif Sorry but after checking with my friend (Aidin), he said that the person who introduced him to cyling is (Imran) and not (Irfan), sorry for the misunderstanding. Btw, if your curious, I'm in Sri Cempaka (Damansara-campus).

Hey guys, I've got an urgent question that needs to be answered ASAP. Is it possible for me to oil my RST Capa T4 fork with WD-40? Can I just spray the oil on the stanchion tube directly or must I disassemble the whole fork?

When I go for mild XC @ the forest around Lake Gardens, I just stand up and pedal at the middle gear. When I'm going up hill (higher ground), I use momentum to maintain my speed. When I'm going over tree roots, I *jump* (lift the fork up) and cross the roots.

Last time when I cycled @ 1 X 1 (gearing), uphill on forest/jungle terrain but quite steep incline using semi-slick tires that became full-slick. I lost traction and was stationery while my bike's rear tire was spinning. doh.gif

Actually, when you cycle on the tarmac/pavement/road. Make sure that you don't listen to music as you may not be able to listen to the environment (oncoming cars/behind you). Just my 2 cents.

long, heavy, overkill for a hardtail, not as nice as my durolux
1. Fill up ur iPod with ROCK songs
2. Create a 'Riding' playlist
3. Watch some riding vids before riding to get you pumped up
4. When doing it, think 'If they can do it, why can't i?' and 'I'm not gonna die, why am i so scared?'
so far helped me lots
and not to forget, watch MORE riding videos and analyze how they do the drop/jump or trick to get it dialed in ur mind lol...
*
Agreed that Boxxer is an overkill for HT.
PS: Time for you to upgrade to full-sus. brows.gif

i dun think riding with earphones is really a good idea. i dun think depriving your ears and brain of the sounds of nature when you are in the hill is good for the soul. and i dun think covering your ears from the sound of traffic and from what is going on around you is good for your health.
but for riding in rocky and sandy areas, a pair of goggles or clear lens shades are handy and look cool (depends on your taste la). raybans like the T1000 also can.
*
Perhaps, using a pair of "micro-earphones", like those type you see in movies that are used by army officials. It's so small, you put the *whole* think into your ear. shocking.gif That'll be good, the player should be like an iPod Shuffle with a wireless transmitter? icon_idea.gif

I'd like to join Kiara ride.. but I lazy wake up morning leh because weekend best time for me to catch up with lost sleep on school days I only go petang..

Anyway.. I change bike already.. dumped my Giant XtC Team.. now using a turning 10 yr old bike, which is my dad's but hardly use because he works outstation and comes home every 1-2 months only.

GT Backwoods hardtail w/ Rock Shox SID XC, full XT and very the karat Selle Italia seat.. also front wheel I put a Hayes rotor at the hub.. but no disc brake, decoration only so now I have a front V-Disc brake haha..

Will send both the Giant and GT to lbs to port my e.Thirteen SuperCharger bashguard, Ritchey WCS bar ends (too lazy), and if can maybe my Truvativ FireX cranks too.. or perhaps buy a Truvatic Hussefelt or HammerSchmidt if got money lol.. also changing to a Funn Rippa short stem.. current stem got no brand or maybe got brand but scratched off..

will post specs+pic soon, so can update. I think I'm having the oldest bike here but it's really good and runs/shifts smooth without noise.. also the RockShox absorbs drops and stair better than my Marzocchi Bomber.. (perhaps the Bomber has reached the end of its life/died or because the RS has longer travel by 75%)

a leakage in the main chamber?
main suspects would be the valve core...
see if there are any leaks at the valve, if it ain't that, might be the seal between the top cap and the chamber had been compromised.
try opening the top cap at the air chamber side and try checking is the o-ring sealing the chamber and the top cap damaged or just experiment around lol...
anyway, since i'm super bored, for nostalgia sake, here are some photos showing the evolution of my bike
Started out as this(hey, everyone's gotta start from somewhere
My first upgrade ever, a Deore RD
upgraded the drivetrain and also an immitation fork(hate that damned fork ), miss my old DCL for cross country use...
Changed the frame to an avalanche replica, discs came afterwards lol...
Then a new fork came in
My setup for my first ever downhill race,KDD2
Got the chucker
Snapped the Epicon, borrowed scotty's PDRM(Pro Downhill Racing Machine)
Another new fork, super long and hardcore-certified
And finally, another new frame
ah~ those were the days
hope u enjoyed my little evolution of bike
now its ur turn to post urs lol...

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Mar 1 2009, 01:42 PM)
Mmm...Bike evolution..mmm.. interesting.
Ever since the poison-ban.. got nothing to post di.
My bike history
1) Various bikes from childhood but the bike that I remember the most is my Le Run mountain bike. It's the first product from Le Run (then a new company). Had a blast with this hardtail. Had Shimano SiS drivetrain and got it after getting relatively good grades from my dad. Great memories from this bike.. rode it through secondary school...rode it everywhere my friends..chase skirts with it... had many epic adventures with this until I got a car during college. Sadly it was left to rust at home until 2 years ago when lil my sis sold it for scraps. Naturally I was upset. Since this was before the digital camera was invented, I have no pics
2) Fast forward 13 years... I'm married and living in Taiwan. One fine day while vacationing in Taichung's old railway which was now converted into a bike path, my wife and I rented some beaten down bikes and that event reminded me of how fun cycling was. On the way back, I was adamant on getting a bike.
Had a look around and was shocked at how expensive bikes became!!! Heck, my Le Run cost like RM300+ those days.
I ended up with a used 18speed KHS A-2500 which I bought off a friend for roughly the equivalent of RM200
3) Rode the KHS almost everyday until my wife decided to join me for some of the rides. We needed another bike.... Enter the 2008 Fuji Nevada 1.0 aka Maria. My first "proper bike".
It came with Deore drivetrain, XCR fork, Tektro v-brakes for roughly RM1200 which is the best value among its class then. Everything else (not including the no-brand ones) sold for at least RM300-400 more.
4) Maria was then upgraded with a Avid SD7s, Overdrive tires, Ergon grips, Rocket V saddles, MG-1 pedals and the R7 Elite Absolute fork. By then, I was riding 25km everyday and 60-80kms during the weekends.
5) As my wife begun to join me for most of the weekend ride, she quickly outgrew the KHS and was looking into getting a Giant Nana but due to the lack of space in our apartment and the fact that sometimes she goes on rides with her collegues after work, we gotten a Giant Halfway folding bike instead... which is now my commuter bike.
6) Then I was seriously poisoned by a neighbour's XTC Comp 1 with full XTR gruppo...after which, things just don't feel the same anymore. The poison was too great... so at 8.30pm October 10, 2008... I rode off to a nearby LBS, sold off Maria for a paltry ~RM700... took a taxi to another LBS and bought a Giant XTC HB3 aka Hebe + another Manitou R7. My wife was like... WTF??
7) Today, Hebe sports new everything except the original Deore FD, I'm 4kg lighter and much more powerful in bed
*
Hey bro, mind posting pics of your neighbour's XTC Comp 1 with full XTR gruppo? brows.gif

Came back from cycling yesterday and reached my house @ 7 pm, totally drenched. doh.gif Luckily I didn't cycle to Lake Gardens, my kind neighbors/cycling partners decided to send me there and join in the ride with me. Started cycling @ 5 pm and ended @ 6.30 pm waiting for rain to end. Rain ended @ 7 pm and I'd already have to go home.

I met another cyclist today while cycling along "Jln. Kemaris, Bangsar". There's this boy (16) and his sister (14). He's named Aimen and rides a XT groupset T-Bolt with carbon seatpost/stem/handlebar. drool.gif

I was drenched too here in PJ! At first went to my friends house with both my GT Backwoods and Giant XtC Team (his house only on the adjacent street) to transfer my grips, bar ends, and a failed attempt to remove my e.Thirteen SuperCharger bashguard (too tight! Dunno how those KSH guys pasang). Then hujan turun.. guess what I did?
