Get in Reds! Clean sheet, an away goal, and yet to play at Anfield. Job well done.

Reckon Madrid has played right into our hands. For all their wealth, mights and supposedly top form, couldnt they overcome our apparent boring football ? Evidently being 'overly' organized, flawless team work, and menacing counter attack is boring football. Football is a team game, which Liverpool is undeniably excellent at. Real came undone because they couldnt outdo us and their lack of passing and movement somehow was the fault of our football. Ironically, the players would take that as a compliment. I guess thats how Inter came undone as we saw last year, and Barcelona the year before that. Surely Real would have seen the danger and had the time to prepare to overcome our boring football ?

Thats the reality of playing against Rafa's team in Europe; Play them at your peril.

quite nervous game. but seems balance for me. Torres only chance should have been converted! tongue.gif
shot ratio Real Madrid 15 (5) - 10 (4) Liverpool is not that bad either.
I was just happy that Lucas was not on the starting 11.
imagine if Alonso's strike just before the mid-line went into the goal-mouth!!! drool.gif

-cheers-

seriously that was a pretty dangerous game this morning. real had too many chances to shoot from long range and thankfully none were on target.

i thought it was a very open game, and good entertainment there, but we were really poor in possession and spent most of the match chasing the opposition players. luckily real's defence has always been slightly vulnerable, we created few chances out of nothing as well and sweet header from benayoun towards the end of the match. poor marking though for a team that has only conceded 2 in their previous 9 games.

i was hoping that torres' thunderous shot in the first half would go in and i'm sure there are celebrations not only among liverpool fans, but athletico's as well. wink.gif

and that cheeky half-way line shot from alonso, real fans must've been stunned when cassillas had to push it over the bar.

good results, but it's only half-time. any positive result from the madrid team and we'll be on the backfoot, so the team needs to be on their toes.

An open game though i felt that we are still heavily dependant on Gerrard to create attacking options.

Which i fully understand why Rafa wanted to buy Barry in the first place coz we will have two british midfielders that will fight tooth and nail for the ball.

Babbel is still sh*t and wasted so many possession, he is trying too hard too please the manager...a simple pass would suffice rather than trying to unsuccessfully dribble a mediocre defender.

Rafa will know the tie will be won at Anfield but serious reinforcement/replacement in Gerrard absence is needed.

Go Liverpool and bring on Barcelona!!

Not so surprising on Aurelio la.Like usual, he played well in big matches.Anyway, I'm surprised that Babel actually made 5 passes. He knows how to pass after all.  laugh.gif

As for Riera, he might be out together with Torres.Torres twisted his ankle while Riera get a knock by Gago.  doh.gif

Riera is out for second leg due to suspension. Cos yesterday in starting list saw a yellow beside his name.

I really don't know what to say: we can go to Santiago Bernebeu Stadium and beat Real Madrid, but at Anfield home, we can't beat Man City. If you play Man City against Real Madrid, I would predict a win for RM. So after all this excitement that we are chasing our 1st League title in 19 years, that we can only hope of success in Champions League?

Yes, he is out.I think Rafa gonna start benayoun on the left and Kuyt on the right with Gerrard behind Torres for the next game against R.madrid. smile.gif

Again, the old news, we enjoyed being underdog. We screwed up whenever we are favourites.

Stoke, Hull, Fulham and Man City who have the worst away record...We just screw up whenever we are the favourites... doh.gif

Dude, water off stone. Beauty is only skin deep isn't it? Why fault English clubs for playing tactical football when the 5 games they lost in the La Liga this season was to Spanish opposition? Did they all play boring tactical football? Maybe only the top two in La Liga play attractive, beautiful football then?

Actually I feel that we are defending beautifully and hit it nicely after the 2nd shot on goal in second half. We are away and without Gerrard and Torres, we couldn't do much offensive approach.

We are holding 1 away goal. Cheers! rclxms.gif

Back in their last lost against Barca, I don't see them going heads on to Barca. Didn't see any 'beautiful' football back then. Wait maybe their beautiful football is inferior to Barca. laugh.gif
