People got bit pissed off with DoW 1 and how they milked the cow with all the extensions (I enjoyed the xpacs personally and got them all) but at least they expanded the original game to more or less propose most of the Warhammer 40K main races (which is itself an achievement imo, they even have SoB which are by far not the most played race in TT). Balance in MP was kinda screwed up at the end from what I read but with so many races I can't really blame them personally.
DoW2 has so far been granted with quite few good patches (like the list you said), I heard rumors of an Orc campain coming out for free in the future and co. While they may now redirect some resources to new game, I feel they already provided good stuff.
I bought DoW2 roughly at the same time I bought Empire Total War for example, one hand I have a game I replayed the campain in the last few days with pleasure and even tempted to start skirmish/MP, on the other I have a turd that is still CtD on me every few battles on 2 different computers, the AI is still dumber than in previous TW games etc. (I won't enumerate the whole list but there is whole more, the game is good but clearly faulty for me)
That's why I said Relic overall did offer some good polish and support, not the "sell and dun care" mentality that is becoming more spread around nowadays.
SoB is badly made,IMO,and there are some coding errors on it.I hated SS because of them.
Still,Relic's support have been okay for me,due to bad past experience.I like DoW2 now.
Gormaz,come join us on MP la.It would be more fun playing together,even it's a comp stomp,as i want to learn new races.

And yea, abt the subtle changes to the game, makes me appreciate more for the game.
I do hope it wont affect DoW2 support much,as im really looking forward to IG and Chaos in DoW2.
Anyway,you played well yesterday,especially Game 2 which is awesome.Great support but i think you got a little too sloppy at the beginning.
Scary is scary as usual.Now i know why am i so scared of Scary when im using RA.The green tide is scary.
