Yeah if you like COH gameply, then this game has alot of similarities (and relic did say they wanted to bring the 2 genres togther for this version)
Talking about cannon fodder....really depends on which faction you play with...However the game really make you feel you have lost something important...let me give you some examples...
Lets say your playing space marines and you have 2 squads, 1 is your scout(basic unit and cant be upgraded with shotty or sniper) den you have the tactical space marines (can be upgraded with alot of stuff like flamers, rockets or plasma and even a sarge unit)
the scouts are cheap but they are valuable capping unit. So lets say early game you lost your scouts...the 1st thing you feel is like this "Oh S***, those bastrds killed my scouts, now I can't F***** cap anything until I get enough req...crap by that time I'll be 4 or 5 squads behind....WTF happen and how did that happen..."
Those words will go into your mind and will probably stay there till you finish that game.
However heres another scenario with the Tactical squad and Scouts.
Lets say you scouts are capping and suddenly another enemy squad comes and fights them. However you thought since there's only 1 squad you stay back and call in your Tactical for support or assault...However unknown to you another squad of the enemy comes from behind you scout and takes them out with eh....a plasma grenade (yes eldar loves thier bombs) and then suddenly your in panic mode cause you just lost a 210 req point squad (thats how much they cost to make roughly) on the other hand do you use your tact team to take revenge or call on a complete retreat ? Cause now your outnumbered 2 to 1 and just lost your scouts....
So all i can say from that is yes...you feel it when you lose a squad...if you play a certain faction or race....even the cheapest cannon fodder units in the nids army can be considered a loss in the long run (I would know cause I've used them enough to say gaunt's aren't for cannon fodder only)
From what I've experience with gaining levels it does benefit your squad. Like any unit that gains veterency in COH that unit gets stronger and faster. However there isn't a kill counter like in COH so you can't keep track of how much you units have killed. But from what I've seen they do get some exp from other units killing something near it. In the new patch however this is gonna get removed from the heroes.
And I'm very happy to see that most enviroments can be blown up, step over, knock over and other completely and utterly destroyed by anything in this game...makes it so much more statisfying to see an orbital blast take out part of the enviroment after you use it on the enemy.....(it leaves a black scarring over the area also and sometimes craters lol)
ooOOoo..i like it, i LIKE it, I LIKE IT!!! Wahahahaha...Talking about cannon fodder....really depends on which faction you play with...However the game really make you feel you have lost something important...let me give you some examples...
