Spirit (3rd May 2010)

What's Spirit?
Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the latest firmwares.
Spirit is not a carrier unlock.
If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)

Requirements
Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.
An activated device: one not stuck on the Connect to iTunes or Emergency Call screen.
Any version of iTunes 9 (including 9.1.1).
Syncing with iTunes before trying this (highly recommended).

Compatible with Windows and Mac: http://spiritjb.com/

Mac: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=9206
Windows: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=9207

Backup Your SHSH

Windows: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=9194

That could be the problem. Because, once I used IDM to download the original IPSW file but IDM downloaded it as .zip and even though I changed the extension to .ipsw, the creating of custom ipsw file will fail.

Try with DownThemAll plugin for Firefox.

for such files, never ever use a download manager as download manager splits the files and download seperately then combine them back...so to play safe, download them using the normal method

Yeah, it can run on vista. biggrin.gif (btw it doesn't work on vista x64)
Just make the libusb-driver windows-xp compatible when u install it.
Jailbroke my touch 2G on vista with it.
