Same here.. i've also taken their test for PHP developer and failed.Felt like the test is targeted to solution architect post..

I have attended the second interview with the technical director few weeks back. IMO they are indeed seeking for software architect rather than programmer. The job position simply does not match with the job requirement. I can answer the questions but i think I did not go through because of my English. Anyway, I've learned from this interview. smile.gif

Which of the following SQL contains error?
2 Options make me wonder (forgot the name and value):
- select field1 from emp where field1='xxx';
- select field1 from emp where field2=`xxxx';
p/s: and then i'm wondering, it wouldnt make sense to select the field with that value if you already know the value,
unless you want to check if the value exists, but then 2nd answer make me worry
if the person who typed this document forgotten that m$ word actually converted all starting ' to `
Which 1 have error? im kind of speechless here
I'm not a programmer but seem the 2nd option is wrong... why should I care about m$ conversion in test? If you really care, you should ask them before you hand in your lovely answer :-)

I would love to try to apply with this company too... but I do not think they have sys admin post (might be i check at the wrong time)...

yeah.. it make sense to choose 2nd option.
But the test is given by a hr.. they might not know what we programmer might be asking.

we are looking for people who are passionate about the whole software technology and development process. which means that you have to be knowledgeable but not limited to only to your favorite language. you have to know the best practices, which frameworks are most suitable for the task, the best way to solve a problem (design patterns) etc..etc..

if you are only limited to your favorite language and code the cowboy way or the duct tape way, for sure you will fail the tests.

before i joined the company 1.5 year ago, that time I only have 1 year working experience but I still remember my interviewers told me that my knowledge is at a respectable level for someone quite a fresh junior and was offered on the spot (I answered the technical questions paper in just about 10 minutes and was one of the youngest in terms of experience to join directly with the title of Java Developer without going through the trainee program). But I soon learned after I joined that I am seriously lacking in knowledge.

I am no software wizard. I can say that I passed the interview because I read a lot about software development and play around with the frameworks. You can say that I am a computer geek. And my English isnt that good either. so I disagree about what you said that we are more looking for a software architect than a programmer, but I would rather say that we are looking for programmers that are passionate about software development itself.

If Experian follow XP closely, design/architecture of software development is a shared responsibility/authority of all team members, although you may have a senior person to act as a coach. So beside understanding architecture, be prepared to write tons of unit test and communicate in UML.

Yes, they are still called programmers. So the job title is fine. Always read job description to know what you are getting into. "Technical Architect", "Java consultant" doesn't tell you ANYTHING. You can have "solution architect" that doesn't know how to code.

p/s: Previously logged in as tomyeo; not an Experian employee, not yet anyway...

I do find a problem with the the word "king" of programmers though...  smile.gif What if my favourite programmer is... Ada Lovelace?

Then that indeed is your problem. They're not asking for your favourite programmer, right? wink.gif

Just to clear things up.
If you guys came for PHP/.Net positions, the office where you will work will be located at the Ericsson building. The one that you came for interview is Prima 8 which is the office for Decision Analytics.
Still plenty of parking space there at the Ericsson building.
