Just a heads up. If you want to compare Panasonic 42" Plasma S10 vs X10 vs C10 side by side, you can go to Berjaya Time Square ground floor, opposite Metrojaya. They have an AV display there currently.

biggrin.gif Thanks bro, too bad that this information has little use to me cause I am living in Kuching tongue.gif Anyway I think I have a clear idea in the difference in PQ after comparing S and C series.

Will just wait for a while to see if there is any price drop in the blu-ray players. The prices for plasma set is droping like free fall recently, 720p 50" is less than 4k now sweat.gif Hope this wave will hit the blu soon ...

The price of bluray players dropping is useless.  Its the price of the movies that is stopping bluray adoption at least in Malaysia.  How many people can afford RM150 for a bluray movies?  I can give you the player for free but you will not enjoy many movies at that price.
*
Are you my twin brother who knows what I am thinking / feeling / enjoying? some ppl just always post in offensive tone as if wanna provoke a war of words. I am probably not the only one who has this feeling, I think ar188 posted something a few days ago ... long gone issue also wanna Korek ..

RM150? Obviously you have not been updating yourself. Don't just look at the price in Speedy Video la .... and I am not talking about the Jack Sparrow version.

By the way, how do you know that is the price of the movie titles that is stoping the bluray adoption in Malaysia? you can speak for all Malaysian? Wa lao!!!, then probably you can suggest to the government another interpretation of 1Malaysia = 1 person to speak for whole Malaysia

Are you from Miri or Bintulu? you sound like the MP who is so generous in donating this and that to others (that is if you know who I am refering to), I don't mind if you wanna give me a free blu-ray player.

By the way, I have not even mentioned about buying every movies in BLU and that I want to watch many movies in BLU!. I think a lot of the BLU owners are buying the movies title selectively only, and by that, I mean on those titles that in their opinion, worth collecting only. And each of these ppl have their on selection criteria, some emphasis on PQ, some AQ, some the movie plot and etc.... and that is what I plan to do, buy selectively. For other titles that I don't want in BLU, I still can buy the DVD.

My sincere apologies to those who intended to read PLASMA and LCD related only post in this thread. Just cannot tahan ... blush.gif

Guys, the distance from my sofa to the LCD screen is 9 feet. What LCD/Plasma tv size would you recommend? I used a tool somewhere online and it recommended 37"...which I think is a good size but reading Pana brochures recently becau, I should get a 42" because of the HD technology. I am afraid that's too big and feel like it's in your face and making you giddy like sitting in the front row in the cinema. Any advice appreciated. Thks.

I notice that JVC LCD tv is rarely/never mentioned here and I'm thinking of getting the model LT-42WX70. What do you sifus think? Or maybe Sharp LC-42A66M?
*
Depends on what you expect to see from your TV. If expecting details, go for 50" for 9 ft.

Bluray adoption worldwide have been slow to date.  In malaysia its even worst especially where Jack sparrow dvd cost only Rm5.  Now you can argue that there are many people with bluray players and buying bluray movies here in malaysia but that number is really small as compare to the people who still watch dvd.  just ask around among your friends and among hundreds of them probably only 1 is into the blu thing.  That is hardly 1% of the malaysian population. Say its 5%(which i doubt it) it is still small %.  Now i don't speak for the whole malaysian population, if price is not the barrier, why are people not buying up the bluray.  why are you only buying a few movies and watch the rest on dvd?  if price is not a factor, you would have bought every movies you watch on blu.  Now i know what you are thinking that i am a cheap and only watch jack sparrow version, but if anyone here can honestly come out and say he don't watch pirated movies, mkv?  Anyone?  I suppose not.
*
I agree with you that the price of the blu-ray title is one of the factors that is slowing down the adoption of BLU in this country or worldwide, but it is not necessary the only factor. I know you didn't put it in the exact wordings in your earlier post that this is the only factor but you did implied that in your posting.

As I said, price of the blu-ray title is only one of the factors, IMHO, other factors could be
a) Price of the player - even if the price of the title drop to RM 10, if the player still cost RM 2000 as compare to DVD players that cost as low as RM 80, you think that is going to affect ppl giving up DVD for BLU?

b) The ownership of HDTV. Many families in this country, especially those reside in smaller towns (I mean no offence, and correct me if I am wrong) are still using CRT or RPTV, BLU and DVD has unnoticable difference when watched through those TVs

c) BLU is still new, some don't even know what it is, not even to mention the difference, one famous blogger when asking the Jack Sporrow crew for the blu-ray converted DVD, the crew showed him the whole bag of BLUE XXX titles indeed doh.gif

I can go on with this list like the number of titles available and etc., but think that I should stop here. This thread is not meant for this topic, and I would not post any argument on this topic in this thread anymore smile.gif

You'll need to acess the service menu. You will need a code to access the service menu, the code varies between brands and sometimes even models.

Again, this is not 100%. The technicians can actually reset the hour used indicator in the service menu to 0, eventhough I don't think these technicians would do that at the request of the retailer.

i need some suggestion ...
my 42" plasma will appear some blistering dot after about 1.30 hours using .

1) i been asking at the LG service center, it cost RM1000 to repair.

2) or should i buy a new 42" LCD which cost about RM3500 ?

Goal : have to last at least 5 years.

p/s: im in a budget    sweat.gif
*
RM3.5k? Try look at Panasonic Full HD Plasma 42S10.

IMO, looking at the lifespan of the TV has little meaning, be it 60,000 hours or 100,000 hours. Even if you watch your TV for 8 hours everyday, 60,000 hours is going to last you for 20 years, and I think there is an extremely high chance that some other parts in your TV other than the panel will experience some problem during that 20 years.

Again, IMO, if you want a headache / heartache free period with your TV be it for only 5 years, then it will be more pratical to try those more reputable brand in terms of built quality and after sales service. For example, both the J country P brand and the K country L brand are claiming 100k hours or more for their Plasma, but ask around, the L brand products always seems to experience some problems after shorter period of use, and their service really sxxks. vmad.gif mad.gif

And for the record, I had good experience with the L brand home appliances, such as fridge, washing machine. So I went on to buy their AV products (after testing out the plasma, which I think has better PQ than the P brand equivalent some time ago). But their technical service vmad.gif mad.gif . Cannot even detect the source of the problem and keep saying problem has been fixed, and when I tested it myself, problem still there blink.gif doh.gif (even product still under warranty)

Is now Samsung Plasma going to take over Pana? How's the quality of for Samsung plasma? Samsung not in LCD how come now in plasma? Any comments?

Mind to share where you got the info you quoted? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Panasonic is the main plasma manufacturer at the moment and had invested heavily on the R&D of plasma technology, and others are focusing on LCD, including Samsung.

What do you mean by quality of Samsung Plasma? the built quality or PQ? In terms of PQ, Samsung Plasma are not well known for it, IMO, it is even behind its Korean competitor, LG. At least LG had produced a plasma series that received tons of praises, the PG60 in the North America market. (bear in mind though, the NA PG60 is different from the PG60 found locally). Samsung on the other hand, produces good LCD TV.

Samsung not in LCD? Samsung has been producing LCD TV for years and is one of the primary player. They even claimed to be the No. 1 LCD TV producer globally in terms of volume sometime ago.

Again, correct me if I am wrong, it seems to me that you have got the facts all mixed up

Really, choice is yours. If the price difference between JVC LCD and S10K is negligable, let your eyes decide. I don't think you'll need to worry about burn in if you are using it for ps3, movies and astro.
*
Anyone experience anything before? Care to testify? I thought the static bright coloured text / icon during the game mode is a serious threat to burn in? Panasonic still won't gives warranty for its Plasma against burn in right?

If this is no more an issue then I wanna seriously thinking about replacing my LCD TV with the S10k liaw, the S10k PQ is really thumbup.gif taking into consideration the price

FYI, if you are in a dark surrounding / dark room, when you enter the TV menu of setting and then exit all the menu, with background is black, you can see the menu "ghost image" is still there, my experience with plasma  blush.gif   But during watching movie, it cannot noticeable, and will gone after OFF & ON TV or play movies on it  sweat.gif
Is this normal with plasma?  sweat.gif   Need some advise   rolleyes.gif
*
I think this is normal to plasma. This is what we call image retention, and it varies between the make of plasma. Panasonic's plasma has less obvious IR if compare to the korean brand from my observation.

Since most of the movies, about 9.5/10 movies are not in 16:9, so that I just manually try to cover the top and bottom black bar by "move" the movie to top or bottom line. Because my plasma just connected to my laptop only, no TV show  laugh.gif , so if I keep watching movies (if not 16:9), then worry the top and bottom black bar can burn-in  blush.gif  , but I'm not sure is black area can burn-in or not....haha...anyone know?
*
Technically, black bars are not going to cause burn in, but if you watch movies with letter box format for very long hours, it cause the cells at the black bars area to age slower then those cells in the pictures part. After long hours of use, and when you swich to full screen images, you can actually see the difference in colour of the pcitures between the top / bottom of the tv and the other part. Theorithically, this effect can be permanent. Correct me if I am wrong.

Since most movies are in 2.35:1 format, what I do is keep a collection of TV drama series in hi-def (720p) format, such as the CSI, CSI:Miami series (that i truly enjoy). These dramas has aspect ratio of 16:9. I play an episode or two of these dramas after a few hours of movies in 2.35:1 format. Don't have to play them on the same day, you can turn off or TV and watch the series days later. I found this effective in getting rid of the colour differentiation at the bar areas of my plasma. I hope this trick can help. icon_rolleyes.gif

Plasma, LCD, and CRT all have burn-in issue. The only difference is which type get it more easily. For those who doubt LCD and CRT would get burn in, try observe the colour display the next time you visit any ATM machine at HSBC. brows.gif

when reset back to 16:9 mode, can see IR but after a few days all clear back to normal....

oh, your TV drama series got the channel logo there? consider still image...haha...just to confirm, anyway, this is a good suggestions, by the way, I just leave it play with ZOOM IN (cover all area 16:9) for few min, then IR solved.....  sweat.gif
Correction, in long period plasma turn ON, the power consumption is slightly lower than LCD TV...hehe...this is what I get the info from the Pana's catalogue. Now I enjoy with my plasma about 5 months, so far really saticfy with it especially the natural color/image and wide angle view (all angle still same brightness/color).... thumbup.gif   You can try go to visit nearby Elec shop to view the LCD TV on 50--70 degree from center, then you will see the differents on each LCD TV. Picture will become more brightness, this was what I notice before getting my plasma.... smile.gif
Oh, even you switch OFF and then switch ON on the next day still can see the IR? is this because of old technology plasma panel? anyway, as long as it is not really burn-in, then it's safe smile.gif
*
the TV drama I watch has got the channel logo, since i downloaded them from the nrt. But the logos are semi-transparent logo, wont caused any IR. One thing I don't understand about ASTRO is why are them still using the brightly lighted logos .. doh.gif

Switching on and off the TV won't erase the IR even with the newer plasma. At least that is what i experienced. I don't know about switch it off for a few weeks would do or not but I guess no one would leave their TV off for weeks just to get rid of IR, right? To me, the simplest way of getting rid of IR is to play full screen movies intermittenly.

And it works the same wink.gif

Oh well mabbe its different to "3D" in movies... no harm trying tho, considering those materials are cheap and pretty ez to find.
Yeap sweat.gif

biggrin.gif laugh.gif I did that many year ago too, and it worked. Dunno about wheither it works on 3D movies though, but I think it should, after all, those colour papers are not expensive, just give it a try.
